TwinsKennys Vargas (Mayaguez) was used as a pinch-hitter and walked.  Eddie Rosario (Mayaguez) was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Daniel Ortiz (Mayaguez) was 2-for-4 with a run.

Game summary:  Leading 4-3, Ponce scored three in the sixth to take control of the game.

Ponce:  Zach Walters (Washington) was 3-for-5 with a double and four RBIs.  Christian Colon (Kansas City) was 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI.

Mayaguez:  Angel Sanchez (White Sox) was 1-for-4 with a walk and three RBIs.

Game summary:  Ramon Castro homered in the seventh to break a 1-1 tie.

Caguas:  Mark Cohoon (Mets) gave up one run on five hits and two walks in five innings.  Jorge Padilla was 1-for-2 with a double and a walk and drove in one.

Carolina:  Gaby Hernandez struck out five in 5.1 innings, allowing one run on three hits and a walk.  Enrique Hernandez (Houston) was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once.

CAROLINA 4, CAGUAS 3 IN CAROLINA (GAME 2—SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Game summary:  Carolina scored two in the seventh to win the game.  A pinch-hit RBI double by Carlos Corporan (Houston) drove in the winning run.

Caguas:  Anthony Ranaudo (Boston) pitched 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up three hits.

Carolina:  Enrique Hernandez (Houston) was 2-for-4, scoring once and driving in one.  Osvaldo Martinez (Dodgers) was 2-for-3 with a run.

MANATI 8, SANTURCE 7 IN SANTURCE

Game summary:  Trailing 7-6, Manati scored once in the eighth to tie and got a home run from Keiji Nakahara in the ninth to win.

Manati:  Richard White (Seattle) worked 3.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and one walk.  Nakahara was 3-for-5 with two RBIs.

Santurce:  Luis Matos was 3-for-4 and scored once.  Orlando Mercado was 2-for-3, scoring once and driving in two.
