My dad reaches 24 years of marriage with his second wife today. I've never been clear on how great the marriage is, but they seem to get along fine, and my stepsister rules. So, cheers, Dad!

Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.
and in a related story, the "real" Ben Franklin quote, according to an historian:
that piece also explains who Ninkasi was. There's a Eugene, OR-based brewery by that name, which I'd mistakenly assumed to be of Japanese origin. Huh. INteresting.
there's no "si" sound in japanese. only "shi".
Avoid saying Sibboleth.
Rochester is updating their logo.
One of the commenters mentioned it looks like a fast food fried chicken logo, and now that's all I see.
One big Meh.
I was never much for "Spikes" (really? ugh) as he was, and this doesn't change that.
It does take him from possibly happy, possibly grimacing (with teeth!) to a full "menacing" snarl (with less-articulated teeth!).
I think it's the wrong way, but that's complaining about the organization of deck chairs on the Titanic.
Speaking of fast food chicken....
Which ex-Viking said it?
"Without a doubt in my mind, I should be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame,"
I agree with him. Warren Moon is in, right? And a lot of his numbers were accumulated in the CFL.
if you take out Walker's USFL numbers, he is a borderline HoFer. Rushing, receiving, returnman, he was a triple threat (9th all time in 'All Purpose Yards' with 18,000+)
but Canton bills itself as the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the USFL was a legit pro league. Walker was one of the best, if not the best, players in that league.
On page two of today's sports section in the Strib:
Where have I heard that before..
I'm one big cliche.
Interesting article from the paper of record this week. Doc, CH, meat, others, I'd be interested in hearing your opinions.
Some interesting ideas. Buuut. How will "competencies" be measured and made comparable across institutions? How will they really be different from credit hours? Completion of a course is supposed to certify one as "competent" in the course's contents. If you are a "sprinter," you just take a heavier course load.
Sounds gimmicky.does the world really need more training gold stars intermediate between high school and a bachelor's?
Dr. Chop has noticed a distinct drop in in-class participation and debate over the last several years. A number of factors are likely to blame, but she has narrowly focused on the integration of technology in the classroom. Students are more active on blackboard, and other internet based classroom site, than they are inside the physical classroom. They report to her that they're afraid of being 'wrong' in front of their peers, but that when they can check their responses before hand they're more likely to respond. Crazy talk. Dr. Chop has also noticed a decline in the ability of her students to look each other in the eyes when talking to each other.
So, Stick, are the Wolves distracting you from enjoying the Vikings Super Bowl run, or what?
Anyone able to do a book post for monday? I am in LA until monday evening.
Also, in case anyone is interested, Beer Belly in LA is fantastic. Duck fat fries with duck cracklins and duck confit; pork belly "fries," hot wings, and fish-n-chips with bacon fat fries. Beer list is very good.
I've got an idea for something--should be up in another hour or so.
