SYDNEY 7, BRISBANE 6 IN BRISBANE
Twins: Logan Wade (Brisbane) was 2-for-2 with two walks and a run. Josh Guyer (Sydney) pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
Sydney: Joey DeMichele (White Sox) was 2-for-5 with two home runs, his third and fourth. Trent Oeltjen was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Dae-Sung Koo pitched two shutout innings, giving up no hits and one walk with two strikeouts.
Brisbane: David Sutherland was 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Ryan Battaglia (Cleveland) was 1-for-3 with two walks and a home run, his second. Joey Rickard (Tampa Bay) was 2-for-5 with a double.
The game: Brisbane trailed 2-1 in the third, but Battaglia hit a two-out homer to tie it and Sutherland hit a three-run shot to make it 5-2 Brisbane. Brisbane still led 5-3 when DeMichele led off the sixth with a home run. Two walks, a single, and three wild pitches gave Sydney a 7-5 lead after six. Brisbane got one in the eighth and had the tying run on third base with two out.
MELBOURNE 7, ADELAIDE 4 IN MELBOURNE
Adelaide: Chris Jacobs (Dodgers) was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one. Jeremy Cresswell was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Blake Smith (Dodgers) pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit and no walks with one strikeout.
Melbourne: Ben Leslie (San Francisco) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double, driving in two. Justin Huber was 2-for-3 with a double and a run. Joe Burns (Texas) pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk with six strikeouts.
The game: Jacobs doubled in a run in the first, but Melbourne came back with two in the bottom of the first and got four in the third to take control of the game. Three walks, two errors, and two singles led to the four runs. It was 7-1 after five. Adelaide mounted somewhat of a comeback, scoring once in the seventh and twice in the eighth, but only had one man on base after that.
