Mexican Matchups: Games of 12/7

Lots of close games.  Sandy Madera hits a walkoff homer for Los Mochis.  Jerry Owens comes through for Hermosillo.

LOS MOCHIS 7, GUASAVE 6 IN LOS MOCHIS  (12 INNINGS)

Guasave:  Leonardo Heras was 5-for-6 with a run and three RBIs.  Jesus Lopez was 2-for-5 with a walk and a double, scoring once.  Juan Delgadillo pitched five innings, allowing one run on five hits and four walks with four strikeouts.

Los Mochis:  Sandy Madera was 4-for-5 with two walks and two home runs, scoring three times.  Gilberto Mejia was 3-for-5 with two walks and a double, scoring one run.  Spencer Patton (Kansas City) struck out three in two shutout innings, allowing one hit and no walks.

The game:  Heras hit a two-run single to cap a three-run second and give Guasave a 3-0 lead.  Guasave built a 6-1 lead after six when Los Mochis came back with five in the seventh to tie it up.  Jake Fox had a two-run single and Yancarlo Angulo had a two-run double in the inning.  There was no more scoring until the twelfth, when Madera led off the inning with a walkoff home run, his second homer of the game.

HERMOSILLO 3, MAZATLAN 1 IN MAZATLAN

Hermosillo:  Jerry Owens was 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, and a home run, driving in three.  Jose Aguilar was 1-for-3 with a double and a run.  Hector Galvan pitched five innings, giving up one run on five hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

Mazatlan:  Henry Mateo was 2-for-4.  Alejandro Martinez pitched six innings, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  Owens doubled in a run in the third and Owens hit a two-run homer in the fifth to give Hermosillo a 3-0 lead.  The lone Mazatlan run scored on a ground out in the fifth.  Mazatlan got the tying run on base with two out in the seventh, but the last seven Mazatlan batters were retired.

MEXICALI 3, CULIACAN 1 IN MEXICALI

Culiacan:  Felix Perez was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Francisco Campos pitched six innings, giving up three runs on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts.

Mexicali:  Brad Snyder was 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs.  Ben Guez (Detroit) was 1-for-2 with a walk and a double, scoring twice.  Misael Siverio struck out nine in five innings, allowing an unearned run on one hit and four walks.

The game:  Snyder's two-run double in the first and RBI double in the third made it 3-0 Mexicali.  Culiacan's lone run and lone hit came in the sixth, when Perez led off with a single and later scored on an error.

NAVOJOA 4, OBREGON 2 IN OBREGON

Navojoa:  Rolando Acosta was 2-for-4 with a home run, his fifth.  Fernando Flores was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Alejandro Soto pitched 5.2 innings, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Obregon:  Albino Contreras was 3-for-4.  Sergio Contreras was 2-for-4.  Agustin Murillo was 1-for-3 with a double and a run.

The game:  Jon Weber singled in a run for Navojoa in the third, but an RBI ground out tied it at one in the fourth.  An error and a ground out scored two in the sixth for Navojoa to make it 3-1.  Another RBI ground out cut the lead to 3-2 in the sixth, but Navojoa got an insurance run in the eighth on Acosta's leadoff homer.  Obregon did not get the tying run on base after that.
