Venezuelan View: Games of 12/14

A good game for Dakota Watts.   A seven-run inning wasn't enough for Lara.

ANZOATEGUI 8, LA GUAIRA 7 IN LA GUAIRA

Twins:  Eduardo Escobar (Anzoategui) was 0-for-5.  Yorman Landa (La Guaira) faced two batters, giving up a hit and a walk and getting charged with one run.

Anzoategui:  Gorkys Hernandez (Kansas City) was 2-for-4 with a walk and a triple, scoring once.  Jose Castillo was 3-for-4 with a walk and a double, scoring three times.  Alexi Amarista (San Diego) was 2-for-2 with two walks and a double, scoring once and driving in one.

La Guaira:  Alex Cabrera was 2-for-4 with a walk and a two-run homer, his twentieth.  Salvador Perez (Kansas City) was 3-for-5 with a double and a run.  Anthony Gose (Toronto) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring once.

The game:  A two-run single by Jose Gil (Yankees) capped a three-run first to give Anzoategui a 3-0 lead.  Anzoategui also had leads of 4-1 and 5-3, but in the fifth an error allowed two runs to score to tie the game and Rene Reyes delivered an RBi single to put La Guaira ahead 6-5.  In the sixth, Anzoategui came back on a three-run double by Oscar Salazar to lead 8-6.  La Guaira scored once in the ninth and had runners on first and second with two out.

ARAGUA 9, ZULIA 4 IN ARAGUA

Twins:  Oswaldo Arcia (Aragua) was 1-for-4.  Dakota Watts (Aragua) retired all three men he faced, striking out two.

Zulia:  Jose Flores was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, scoring once.  Hernan Perez was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Jose Pirela (Yankees) was 3-for-4 with two runs.

Aragua:  Luis Hernandez was 2-for-3 with a triple, scoring once and driving in three.  Luis Maza was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.  Jason Lane (San Diego) pitched five shutout innings, allowing three hits and no walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  Aragua scored two in the third and three in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead.  Hernandez hit a two-run triple in the fourth inning.  Ernesto Mejia (Atlanta) had a two-run single in the sixth to cut the lead to 5-2, but Aragua got one back in the sixth on a Hernandez RBI single and Zulia never got closer than three runs.

MARGARITA 2, CARACAS 1 IN MARGARITA

Caracas:  Henry Alejando Rodriguez was 2-for-2 with a walk.  Gregorio Petit was 1-for-4 with a home run, his seventh.  Jesus Aguilar (Cleveland) was 1-for-3 with a walk.

Margarita:  Junior Sosa (Pittsburgh) was 2-for-2 with two walks and a triple, scoring once.  Wilmer Flores (Mets) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run homer.  Carlos Monasterios struck out eight in six shutout innings, allowing one hit and two walks.

The game:  Flores hit a two-run homer in the third to give Margarita a 2-0 lead.  Caracas got its lone run in the eighth on Petit's home run.  Caracas put runners on first and second with two out in the ninth.

MAGALLANES 8, LARA 7 IN LARA

Magallanes:  Adonis Garcia (Yankees) was 2-for-5 with two runs.  Argenis Diaz (Cincinnati) was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.  Robinson Chirinos (Texas) was 2-for-4 with a run.

Lara:  Jairo Perez was 3-for-5 with a triple, scoring once and driving in three.  Mike Moustakas (Kansas City) was 1-for-5 with a two-run homer, his third.  Luis Valbuena (Cubs) was 1-for-3 with two walks, scoring once and driving in one.

The game:  Lara opened the scoring with seven runs in the fourth inning.  The inning included the Moustakas two-run homer and a three-run triple by Perez.  Magallanes bounced back with four in the fifth, two of the runs scoring on errors and one on a wild pitch.  It was 7-5 through eight innings.  In the ninth a two-run single-and-error by Endy Chavez (Seattle) tied the score and a Juan Rivera RBI single gave Magallanes its only lead of the game.  Lara went down in order in the ninth.  Lara made five errors, leading to five unearned runs.
