SYDNEY 7, BRISBANE 5 IN BRISBANE
Twins: Logan Wade (Brisbane) was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.
Sydney: Trent D'Antonio (Miami) was 2-for-4 with a home run (his second) and two runs. Michael Lysaught was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer. Jeff Lyons pitched three shutout innings, giving up one hit and one walk with one strikeout.
Brisbane: David Sutherland was 1-for-5 with a run and two RBIs. Matthew Roxburgh was 2-for-5 with a run. Alex Kaminsky pitched 3.1 innings, allowing one run on one hit and two walks with two strikeouts.
The game: In the first, Brisbane scored on a Sutherland RBI single, a bases-loaded walk, an infield out, and a Wade RBI single to go ahead 4-0. Sydney came back with six in the fourth to take a 6-4 lead, as Keon Broxton (Arizona) singled in one, one scored on a ground out, Guy Edmonds doubled in one, Lysaught hit a two-run homer, and Jacob May (White Sox) followed with a solo shot. The teams each scored once in the fifth, and that was it for the runs. Brisbane had a threat in the ninth, putting men on first and third with none out, but the next three batters could not get the ball out of the infield.
ADELAIDE 5, CANBERRA 3 IN CANBERRA (13 INNINGS)
Adelaide: Stefan Welch (Boston) was 1-for-5 with a walk and a double, scoring once. Joe Sclafani (Houston) was 2-for-6 with a run. Wilson Lee struck out nine in six shutout innings of relief, giving up two hits and three walks.
Canberra: Jack Murphy (Toronto) was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one. Antonio Callaway was 1-for-5 with a walk and a double, driving in one. Nick Pugliese struck out seven in 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and one walk.
The game: Adelaide scored three in the second on a pair of run-scoring ground outs and a Brock Hebert (Seattle) RBI single. Canberra got one back in the bottom of the second on Callaway's double and scored twice in the third on a double play and Murphy's RBI single. And then the bats went silent. For nine consecutive innings, there was no scoring. Finally, in the thirteenth, Sclafani singled, Welch doubled him in, and Andrew Davis brought home an insurance run. A walk and two singles loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the thirteenth, but a popup and a fly out ended the game.
PERTH 15, MELBOURNE 0 IN MELBOURNE
Perth: Tim Kennelly (Philadelphia) was 3-for-6 with a double and two home runs (his second and third), scoring three times and driving in six. Tucker Nathans (Baltimore) was 2-for-5 with a double and a two-run homer (his third), scoring twice. Daniel Schmidt pitched six innings, giving up three hits and one walk with four strikeouts.
Melbourne: Ryan Dale (Kansas City) was 1-for-3 with a double. Justin Trapp (Kansas City) was 1-for-4 with a double. Freddy Flores pitched two shutout innings, allowing no hits and one walk with one strikeout.
The game: It was scoreless for two inning, but from there on it was all Perth. Perth scored six times in the third inning, getting an RBI single from Alex Stuart, a run-scoring ground out, a two-run homer from Nathans, and run-scoring doubles from Luke Hughes and Matt Kennelly. Perth followed with two in the fifth, five in the sixth, and two in the seventh.
