His song is more like static. They breed in NW MN in grassy areas.

Clay-colored Sparrow, similar to the common Chipping Sparrow, but with a chip so fast it's a buzz.
Once I knew the song wasn't crickets, I quickly found a place near me where they were nesting.

Song Sparrow, very common the continent, with a lot of variation in song and appearance. These are typical of what we see around here.

White-throated Sparrow, a common to abundant migrant in spring and fall with a very conspicuous song in the spring. In MN, they breed only in the Arrowhead.
