    1. On replay, actually, its not a bad idea. The timing (bases loaded with Vargas up) was awful.

      1. I see Gameday labeled it as an eephus pitch, so I'm sure it isn't as cut-and-dried as I was thinking originally, but yeah, still stupid.

        1. Guthrie went into the windup, Torii straight up tried to steal home, Guthrie reacted and threw the ball sort of into the dirt/third base side for the easy out. Gameday probably doesnt have a pitch for that.

  1. Tonight will be a "wear out my remote" night. And... for the first time in many moons, I will not be working! 🙂

      1. You trying to make me nervous? Just kidding. Actually, I had a high school hockey meeting tonight to attend, as the wife was at religion with my daughter. So, I had an excuse to take the night off and then watch the Twins and Wild. It has been very busy at the new joint, even without serving New Glarus beers. 😉

  2. The Twins are at the most volatile park in baseball right now and Pelfrey keeps it tight, even hitting a guy. How hard is he working to get sent back to the bullpen?

    1. I'm listening. (I don't subscribe to cable.) Sounded like a terrible idea. I believe the bases were loaded & that was the third out.

  3. I see on the bottom scroll that former Yankee Bernie Williams is retiring. Didnt he retire like 5 years ago?

  4. Twins, Wild, and the season finale of The Americans. Bad night to not have a DVR.

  5. Watching this while at the pool with the Milklings. 85 degrees or so. Oh, and The Dogfather stout. If the Twins and Wild win, this may qualify as the perfect evening.

      1. Heh, my father-in-law brought over some Newcastle the other night. I still have a fondness for it, but it was my absolute favorite for a few years (before I got my taste for IPAs, and really, for craft beers in general).

        1. The Fargo Brewing 1.21 Gigahops that we roll out tomorrow night is supposed to be an awesome double IPA. The spec sheet I got says 100+ IBUs. Interesting.

            1. One of the owners from FBC will be there from 5-7 talking beer too. Okay, that's it for this commercial break. Now back to your regular scheduled programming. 😉

            2. I could be talked into being around tomorrow night... (For less time than last time.)

        1. In my "Minnesota Twins - Cooperstown Collection" pint glass. It's the little things.

        2. Kona has never been great in my experience, but if you find a beer from them that you like, let me know and I guess I'll give them another shot.

          1. I like their Longboard as a beer-with-dinner beverage. (For sake of reference, my dad had to shake off a Summit IPA Sunday and Longboard was "plain enough" for him.) I have a Kona sampler, so I'll let you know how these go.

    1. Ok, so I asked my daughter to get me another beer, and she shows up with a Southern Tier Double IPA. I totally forgot I had some good beer (Inversion too) in the dorm fridge. I love my daughter.

      1. Southern Tier came out with two October beer that were mind-blowing. One still persists at Total Wine and hasn't turned yet; for 2.99 I'll take that plunge on many a night (including tonight; it was my companion to the Dogfather stout).

    1. I think he'd make a good reliever, similar to Perkins. His fastball is averaging 93 and could probably hit 95 or even higher in relief. Velocity increases can do wonders for performance.

      1. I think the only person in the world that disagrees with you. And that person's name is Mike Pelfrey.

    1. Assuming this is in reference to the "triple":

"It gets past Hunter" is the new "past a diving Jeter"

  6. Someone call Jimmy Johns and get see if we can get the puppies over to St. Paul like right now!

            1. Well, I suppose that explains why you'd use a meme that's dishonest to the character. Also, seriously, you haven't seen either GoT or Lord of the Rings?!

              1. If it's gonna be off, go further off (and make that part of the joke).
                "You See Dis?
                Dis Big Fat Goose Egg"
The line does work with the gesture though, so I can see the temptation.

      1. Saw the highlight on ESPN last night. Pretty sure the guy said there's no I in team but there are two in Torii.

  7. I'm sure we'll hear more about Santana's base running mistake, but that had 0 impact on the game since we didn't make an extra out or a base runner, just a base, and then as soon as Mauer walked, we got the base back. Torii's attempted steal of home however was extremely damaging. Not only did it make an extra out, but we lost three base runners. That's horrific. That's the kind of risk you can't take, especially with a left-handed power hitter at the plate against a righty with little ability to avoid bats.

    1. I disagree. Stealing home with two outs is a calculated risk. As long as they thought the odds of him making it safely were sufficiently highn it makes sense.

Trying to go from second to third with no outs and a ground ball hit in front of you is close to a zero probability of working in the majors. It is a blunder.

      1. Good point. It wasn't a mental mistake; after all, Molitor gave Hunter the go ahead. I don't think the cost-benefit analysis was worth it, though, especially with another runner in scoring position. 2 outs is the time to do it.
