Trevor May comes out of the pen and gets the W on a walk-off single by Kurt Suzuki after the winning run is intentionally walked ... never thought I'd utter that phrase, especially considering how the fellas have been playing of late. Oh, BTW, it was all started by Miguel Sano's double on the first pitch of the 9th. SO. MUCH. FUN. ... oh yeah, there's a game today.
Today's matchup features two starters I didn't think would still be with their respective clubs after the non-waiver trade deadline.
Hisashi Iwakuma: 5.10 ERA, 2-2, 37k's, 1.26 WHIP
-v-
Mike Pelfrey: 3.92 ERA, 5-7, 53 k's, 1.46 WHIP (3-7 in his last 10 with his ERA rising nearly 1.5 runs, but only averaging 3.2 ER's per start during that span... only.)
Blackjack thought that Pelfrey was on his way to becoming a "dominant pitcher in the league"?
Did he say what league?
I assume he meant the American Association.
Nice play by the Bulldozer.
FYI, "Hisashi" ~ "Quincy"
I still believe Escobar can be a big league-caliber shortstop if given the chance. Not a star or anything, but a legitimate big leaguer at the position.
I agree. In the absence of anyone else, I'd like to see him getting time at short over the second half of the season.
Flipped to TBS real quick in between innings and Dick Stockton is calling the game.
He was on lead vocals for Carlton Fisk's Game 6 HR in the 1975 World Series.
Nice, sold hit by Escobar.
Double E.
It seems to me that there have been more complaints about ball/strike calls this year than I can remember. Another reason I think we'll eventually use technology to call them.
Twins offense getting completely shut down for the third consecutive game. At some point, you can't just say "good pitching". A good team has to be able to hit good pitching sometimes.
Mmhmmm
So close.
Iwakuma definitely has the Twins' number. Almost 40 career innings, and nary a run scored.
*Earned runs. Prior to this game it was two runs, both unearned, in 33.2 innings with 34 strikeouts to just eight walks.
Yeah, that. Still pretty impressive.
Pelfrey having a very good outing.
They better hold Seattle scoreless long enough to get into the Mariners bullpen, because I don't think they're ever going to score against Iwakuma.
That was timely.
It's good for Pelfrey to keep the ball on the ground, because that's pretty much the only way he can be effective.
Offense hitting to the score so far
Iwakuma's going to throw a ten inning shutout, isn't he?
Just needs a regular shutout now.
He won't have to.
I love Perkins and all, but you can't groove a 3-0 fastball to Cruz in that situation.
Ugh
3-0 pitch to Cruz should probably be about 6" outside the LH batters box in that situation. Good lord.
Oooooh Perk
BULLDOZED!!!!
How about that?
OMG, DOZIER
Holy crap!
BULL DOZED
SEND HIM!!!!
Trevor May is in...so, game's in the bag, right?
That last pitch by May was beautiful
Hunter's due.
It seems like Twins infielders never hold the tag on baserunners like other teams.
They read WGOM, so that'll change
We need more guile at play. The smallest of small ball.
Jepson not instilling confidence here
This is not going to end well
BB*2 not looking good
Pull the goalie.
Duensing is supposed to get out lefties, and we're intentionally walking a lefty. Shows how much confidence we have in him. Sheesh.
All the pitchers get a crack this inning.
All the pitchers
get acrack this inning.FTFY
Trade deadline passed and more of the same
And they can't turn the fans on like we did in the last place to cause suckitude. Crax.
