Trevor May comes out of the pen and gets the W on a walk-off single by Kurt Suzuki after the winning run is intentionally walked ... never thought I'd utter that phrase, especially considering how the fellas have been playing of late. Oh, BTW, it was all started by Miguel Sano's double on the first pitch of the 9th. SO. MUCH. FUN. ... oh yeah, there's a game today.

Today's matchup features two starters I didn't think would still be with their respective clubs after the non-waiver trade deadline.
Hisashi Iwakuma: 5.10 ERA, 2-2, 37k's, 1.26 WHIP

Mike Pelfrey: 3.92 ERA, 5-7, 53 k's, 1.46 WHIP (3-7 in his last 10 with his ERA rising nearly 1.5 runs, but only averaging 3.2 ER's per start during that span... only.)

  4. I still believe Escobar can be a big league-caliber shortstop if given the chance. Not a star or anything, but a legitimate big leaguer at the position.

  5. Flipped to TBS real quick in between innings and Dick Stockton is calling the game.
    He was on lead vocals for Carlton Fisk's Game 6 HR in the 1975 World Series.

  8. It seems to me that there have been more complaints about ball/strike calls this year than I can remember. Another reason I think we'll eventually use technology to call them.

  9. Twins offense getting completely shut down for the third consecutive game. At some point, you can't just say "good pitching". A good team has to be able to hit good pitching sometimes.

    1. *Earned runs. Prior to this game it was two runs, both unearned, in 33.2 innings with 34 strikeouts to just eight walks.

  13. They better hold Seattle scoreless long enough to get into the Mariners bullpen, because I don't think they're ever going to score against Iwakuma.

    It's good for Pelfrey to keep the ball on the ground, because that's pretty much the only way he can be effective.

  17. I love Perkins and all, but you can't groove a 3-0 fastball to Cruz in that situation.

  28. It seems like Twins infielders never hold the tag on baserunners like other teams.

  33. Duensing is supposed to get out lefties, and we're intentionally walking a lefty. Shows how much confidence we have in him. Sheesh.
