Alt-metal (whatever that means) is the term I always heard for SOAD.
and thus a tag is born.
The "Summoning cheaptoy" one, or the "Alt-Metal" one? I can't believe you've coined a tag on that one.
alt-metal? Is that like Sodium? Or are you going astrophysical here and saying "not hydrogen or helium"?
Heh, I missed that tag.
I'd say alt-metal is fine. They don't have an entry on metal-archives.com, though, so I got nuthin definitive.
I was pretty into SOAD back in high school, since their first came out right during that time. I saw them live twice (once at Mile High opening for Metallica and once at Ozzfest in Somerset) and both sets were disappointing, although it was probably because the sound sucked. But still, I pretty much just stopped listening to them after that.
I still pull up their albums now & then, but I never saw them live and when they "went on hiatus" in like '06 or '07, I stopped paying as much attention.
Same here.
I did love Toxicity back in the day, though.
You guys remember Dave from spookymilk survivor # whichever one it was where Brooks crawled in a hole and died of embarrassment as the guy he invited endlessly argued with spooky?
He was in a band in high school that used to cover SOAD ("Suite-Pee") at all their shows. It was pretty cool at the time.
Point being, I too was into SOAD in high school.
