RIP Maurice White. Title track of the first LP I ever bought. Still an amazing record.

As I noted in the post, the first LP I ever bought. Not too bad for a 7th grader. Genuinely talented musicians. Maurice was the drummer for the Ramsey Lewis Trio before forming Earth Wind and Fire. They seamlessly weaved funk, soul, r&b, world music, pop and rock into a a wonderful tapestry of sound. Never more so than on That's The Way of The World. I still listen to this record a lot, and it still sounds great.
I met Phillip Bailey and Verdine White from EWF when they were in town a few years back--they stayed at my hotel. Couldn't have been more gracious. I let slip that I was a huge fan as a lad and still had 4 records from the mid-late 70's. I even threw in a "Yow". Thankfully, they laughed at that. I asked if Maurice was with them. They said he couldn't tour any more, but he was still a big part of the group. (Apparently Parkinson's had stricken him and he quit touring in the the early 2000's.) Rest in peace, Maurice.
I also can't stress enough how cool 13 year old Bootsy (a white boy from Hicksville, MN) thought these cats from Chicago looked on the cover.
If you got a spare 39 minutes you want to fill with some wonderful sound...

Good stuff, man. The first cassette tape I ever bought was Alabama's Greatest Hits, so you've got that over me in spades.
RIP.
Jim Croce's Greatest Hits here. Ditto RIP
This small town farm boy thought these guys were the cat's @ss
Is that the cast of Welcome Back Kotter?
Return to Forever, but they were probably as close to HS age as the actors were.
Nice write-up Bootsy. Sorry for you to have lost such an important musical influence. I can tell EWF really meant something to you.
