  1. BRRRIIIIING IT! it's snowing here now, but I highly doubt it'll stick. Even if it does, I'm sure it'll stop all before there is enough for me to use my snowblower.

    1. There was absolutely no snow in the forecast yesterday. So, about 9:00 a.m. it started snowing. I checked the forecast several times during the day, and each time it said the snow would stop in a few minutes. It finally stopped sometime after 9:00 p.m.

  2. Question for the cooks in the nation.

I made chili yesterday, but bought too much meat, so I've got about a pound of cubed pork left over. What would you do with a pound of pork stew meat? I keep thinking of soups or stews, but since I now have a vat of leftover chili in the fridge, that might not be the best choice.

      1. My thought was a possible attempt at some sort of slow cooker pork'n'beans, but carnitas seems better. Especially in light of having the leftover chili, which I assume also has beans.

    1. So many things, but not enough time to respond. If it's remotely cold there posole is always a go to for pork stew meat. Also, braised, shreddedand stuffed into pies / empanadas (reduce the braise liquid by 2/3rds for filling ) pork taco, carnitas, crispy fried orange pork bits in black bean and rice (Cuban something or other, essentially carmalize theboutside of thenpork bits and then cook the beans and rice in one pot to soften and tenderize the meats)... I'm sure I've got other ideas.

    2. I think the carnitas wins this time, thanks all. I'll keep that posole idea in my back pocket for when we no longer have so much soup already in the fridge.

      1. And not to leave anyone out, pork and beans sounds great to me, but I'm not sure anyone else in my family would eat it.

        1. Any cassoulet recipe would do as well ... more meat plus beans as opposed to beans plus meat.

      1. First read of that and I thought the GunShot Wounds were signing someone.
Dang work experience with medical terminology.

    1. I'm not a doctor. I don't know anything about medical science. But I don't understand why, if he first had the problem August 28, they just discovered that he needed surgery now. Maybe there's a good reason, but in my ignorance it doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

      1. Kirilloff, 19, spent the offseason rehabbing after getting a platelet-rich plasma injection, but the symptoms returned while trying to throw this spring.

Nobody wants surgery as the first option.

        1. I understand that. It just seems like six months is a long time to figure out that what they were trying wasn't going to work. But again, I claim no medical knowledge, so maybe it isn't.

          1. Without any clear evidence of benefit beyond placebo, PRP is now being marketed aggressively as a cure-all for sports injuries. And at about $300 per injection (the NYT reports $2,000/treatment), there’s plenty of money to be made. … a nation-wide marketing initiative has begun, using sports celebrities as guinea pigs.

This is a quote from the Science Based Medicine journal. It is 9 years old but I've not seen anything that suggests much has changed in the interim.

              1. Surgery to repair torn knee ligaments, especially the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is another area where PRP has been applied. At this time, there appears to be little or no benefit from using PRP in this instance.

  3. Fantasy baseball is back again. As usual, the eligible keepers and rules are at https://goo.gl/QhkJj6. Please double check these, as I went through this quicker than usual this year...

I don't have the draft time set yet, but I anticipate it will be pretty close to the season start. Let me know your preferences for days and times. I'll plan on having the keeper deadline around a week before that, and as usual you can send me your picks via email.

      1. I'm fine with adding you to the league. I think that every team is returning, so you won't be able to take over an existing team, but you can start as a new team.

Send me an email at robzk (a) yahoo and I'll get you an invite.

        1. if possible, i wouldn't want an increase in teams. hard enough scraping the waiver wire (that's why i like this league, but it doesn't need to be harder than it is). this is only a half-hearted request. if everyone wants to go with one more team, that's fine. i can still school everyone on how to nail down 4th place.

          1. I'll set up a poll for this and the draft date/time and send them out to the league.

            1. just to be sure: i have no problems with teams changing ownership, just not looking for an expansion team. wouldn't we have to take in two to keep the schedule balanced?

              1. take in two to keep the schedule balanced

I'm not sure you're understanding how this game works... 😉

              1. I think we've done reverse snake draft in the past, so that was my thought this year, but I am open to suggestions.

    1. I'm not sure I understand what the problem is supposed to be. I also don't understand why MLB is concerned about that but Carter Capps' delivery is perfectly fine.

      1. If there's only a runner on third, then some pitchers go to the wind-up and some pitch from the stretch. If an umpire thinks Price is pitching from the wind-up and he throws to third, I assume there are implications with the balk rule.

        1. I guess I can see that. And if it's just a matter of telling the umpire what he's going to do, it's probably not a big deal.

          1. Yeah, it's probably a good move from MLB to have someone like Slowey reach out to him so he's not taken by surprise if an umpire asks him about it. But getting wind of that conversation, it's probably easy to make it out to seem like a bigger issue than it really is.

    1. Utah had 53 points at the end of the 3rd quarter. They couldnt hit a shot but he Wolves defense was very active.

      1. Also, RICKY! I've been watching that pass to Bazz over and over again this morning.

Also, in what is probably not particularly controversial, were I to be GM of the Wolves, I'd trade Dunn (who should never, under any circumstances save for a wide open dunk, but allowed to attempt a field goal. I'm not even certain he should be allowed to attempt free throws) this offseason and let Ricky and Tyus run things for the foreseeable future. Tyus is younger and better than Dunn in almost every way except defense, which he does appear to be getting better at. Trade Dunn, extend Tyus and Ricky at first opportunity.

        1. Was it the pass when Bazz's shot was eventually blocked? That pass was gorgeous.

          1. No, it was after Ricky stole the ball to start a fast break, the almost no-look pass he bent around a defender right in Bazz's bread basket for an easy dunk.
