I'll be frank, guys: we're doing well with the Pledge Drive. If you plan on giving, please know that we're taking down the widget at the end of the week, so there's no better time than now. Thank you all!

Shouldn't we be doing some type of SOPA protest today?
I considered it, but didn't think the impact would reach many people plus I simply don't have the time to implement anything but shuttering the site for a day.
It's shocking how few of my friends and family members even knew that such a thing as SOPA existed.
It really doesn't even seem to get that much into the Forbidden Zone, because the opposition seems to go beyond normal partisan boundaries.
No kidding. It pretty much seems like anybody who knows anything about the bills are opposed.
I'll put this out there in case anybody wants to do more without too much work. Google has a petition to sign and Wikipedia has a site that will direct you to your representatives, either via email, phone, or (possibly) twitter.
The bill completely misses the forest for the trees.
I have discussed the ridiculous overreach of copyright law before. Remember the story about how churches couldn't have a fundraiser Super Bowl viewing party?
Really? The media industry (which controls nearly all of the nations' news outlets) lobbies Congress hard for a very unpopular piece of legislation that further exposes their internet ignorance (i.e. the DNS rerouting provision), and it's surprising that the media industry is not reporting on their own power grab and technological illiteracy?
"When I was your age we didn't HAVE no dang Waukeepeedia to go dark! We had to walk five miles in the SNOW to copy other people's work! And we had to actually COPY it, word for word!" Uncle Jay
A little birdie told me the Wolves are going to offer 4 years and 60 million to Love.
The truly ground-breaking news in the article:
That's some hard-hitting journalism, Lou.
You aren't taking down the donation dongle, just the sticky, right?
I think the donation dongle will be moved below the recent LTEs sidebar. That way it's easy to get everyone to notice it when they go to the sidebar to catch up after taking a break from the site (e.g. sleeping).
The legend continues.
What? He had an ice pick in his non-throwing shoulder after the game?
Oops... ice pack. My bad.
I stopped at BevMo for something for the Milkmaid and I tonight, and noticed that Red Chair is back. I'm overjoyed.
I've been giving WGOM Radio some thought, and I'd be best as a form of Verbal Pepper!* (as CH suggested) mixed with a little "Around The Horn" We'd have a list of topics, a moderator and a panel. Pretty much the WGOM equivalent of the Guardian's Football Weekly podcast. So, if you are interested in participating or have any technical or programming suggestions, lemme know here, and once things are sorta settled out I'll write a post.
I would gladly participate or moderate.
I would actually really enjoy doing this.
Yep, I'm definitely interested.
Why not?
I'm wondering what an interview show would be like? BKAC Marc Maron style....
We can intersperse one-on-one BKAC's among the pods for sure.
I'm interested. I could do some technical things (like hosting), but you're mostly on your own for how to set up everything. I've done some research but nothing practical.
Might this plugin be useful?
It does look useful.
Got a 20 second test down with a theme song and everything. It went pretty smoothly. Anyone free for a test with a caller?
I'm relatively free. At work, but not like that's stopped me before. I just might miss it since the phone is on silent.
I just found a Skype recording app for Ubuntu. This could end up being quite easy.
I think this is a kick butt idea and would love to help out.
i'm not sure what i can do to help, but i'll do whatever y'all need of me.
I've been in a training all day, but I would love to participate. I've played around some with Garageband, which is certainly capable of putting together a listenable podcast.
RandBall talked with the crying Packer girl
I'd just like to state, I didn't cry after the game. I also wasn't drinking.
But did you put the sparkles on your nails?
Ive probably mentioned my love for the show Chopped before. Anyway, I am always amazed that the chefs try to cook lentils instead of grabbing an easier starch to cook. 90% of the time, the lentils are undercooked!
yea. Without a pressure cooker, you aren't getting lentils done in 20-25 minutes. The 30 minutes they give for the entree round is just ridiculous, given some of the ingredients.
Yeah, when I've done Dal Makkhani, I always felt like I could have used another 3-5 hours on the lentils.
I discovered that black gram "lentils" need to cook for a good hour to 90 minutes, after soaking overnight. Much slower than yer typical dal pulse.
I love that show, too. My only beef is how the judges talk about every bizarre ingredient as though they've cooked with it a thousand times.
That show is essentially what your final exam is like in culinary school. Or, at least the one I attended.
I feel a tremor in the Force.
well that's only a good 30 years over due...
Yikes.
It actually looks good, which makes his description even worse.
i work with a guy that thinks darvish is getting around a $120m contract. don't see that at all, but i guess we'll find out soon...
Given the ever-present trepidation teams have about Japanese players, that seems insane. I have high hopes for Darvish, but that's proven superstar money, and we've seen enough to know sometimes the proven superstars over there don't translate. It's weird.
well, the deadline's at 4pm CT, so we'll know soon enough.
That's simply not happening. We saw last year and in the lead up to him being posted that the contract Japanese players sign is usually similar to the posting fee teams pay. The Rangers posted around $51 million and before the posting, Darvish was said to be looking at a $75-80 million deal. I'm sure he would take $120 million, but negotiations don't start at the high-end and then go up dramatically.
Personally, I think his guaranteed contract will top $51 million but not $70 million. The rumored option could put that closer to $80 and I expect it would.
that's pretty much verbatim of what i told the guy. also, japanese pitchers, and players in general lately, haven't had a great track record. the only thing darvish has on his side is he supposedly doesn't care about going back to japan to pitch next year.
word on the street is 6 for $60m. huh. less than i would've thought.
Six years, $60 million. Slightly less than I expected for a six-year deal, but there's another $10 million available in incentives.
if this helps the ratings of Parks and Rec, I'll encourage this kind of rumor mongering (twitter)
As usual, the big scoops on the NFL are broken by...Rob...Lowe?
ooookay.
This is the real Rob Lowe, right, Not his character Chris from "Parks & Rec"?
I bet Andy Dwyer isn't very happy.
Rob Lowe is literally breaking NFL news!
I love Peyton Manning, the quarterback, even if Peyton Manning, the guy, seems like a bit of an ass. Neck injury isn't something they should mess around with. I'd kind of hoped that if he couldn't play anymore that he'd end up coaching in some capacity on the team.
Peyton seems like a bit of an ass? Where do you get that?
I'm not saying it's not out there - I've just never seen it.
The "liquored up idiot kicker" remark he made about Vanderjagt always stuck in my head, as well as him throwing his entire offensive line under the bus after a playoff loss. I assume he's just intense, but it rubbed me the wrong way.
well, Im off to Target Center to see Love and Rubio and some other dudes play some hoops!
Woo Hoo!
Looks like Target Field is getting the 2014 All-Star Game.
awesome. still, i'm more excited for when they get the winter classic.
I need to get up there if possible for a game. The Winter Classic would be awesome.
I was really hoping they would get the 2015 All-Star game, but nooo, only the Yankees (duh) get to break the AL/NL alternating schedule.
Seriously considering getting tix to this year's ASG in KC. Not sure it will work with the little guy, but both me and the wife kinda want to go.
Have we discussed the lightfield camera here? I see some great potential for this little piece of technology.
I want one.
Dr. Chop just told me that I can get one.... after I save me pennies.
Man, you really did go to Ireland, didn't you?
wonder how useful that could be for astroimaging?
The SOPA deets, via scary-serious Clay Shirky:
That 14 minutes was not wasted. Thanks, bj!
Seconded. My head feels a bit woozy thinking about the ramifications of these types of bills.
Zumaya passed his physical, so his signing is offical now. Hopefully, the Twins can sign one more arm, one that is more durable, for the bullpen.
I always liked Zumaya, laundry be damned, and I'm just plain happy to see him get another chance after what looked like a career-ender.
I'll second you on another durable arm, though. If Zumaya attempts to throw three-digit heat again, I'll always be waiting for the pitch that really is his last.
Never Forget: ORLANDO BALLGAME.
So, the Wizards just beat the Thunder. I didn't expect that to happen.
