              1. No disrespect intended, it's just that I would have never guessed that she was within the top 20 of all-time sales.

                  1. She had a new single a year or two ago.
Given that she's divorced her songwriter and producer, it's probably hard to get back into it again.
Not that she probably needs to.

On her last album, "Forever & For Always" was a pretty good reggae ballad passed off as "country".

                  1. I'd much rather listen to Samuel Clemens' Canadian Great-Granddaughter than the Eagles (assuming I get to skip 15 second of just about each of her songs).

          1. I believe it. I think we have three copies for two adults in this house.
How is it that so many of these are from Canadians?

        1. Maybe it was the most CDs sold (until Shania), all the rest of that top ten was during the vinyl and cassettes era.

          1. OK, I know Owners of every album in that list except #1. That seems... unlikely.
OK, my first idea was that, as this is worldwide sales, perhaps the US-only list would be different. Yes, but Whitney's only #15.

OK, the cover of Dolly Parton was the best-selling single in US history at the time, to be later passed by Elton John's Princess Di/Marilyn Monroe tribute, and later about 100 other singles via iTunes.

            1. OK, I need to cut down on my use of "OK".

Another thought was that double-albums count as two sales (I remember this being an issue when Smashing Pumpkins' Melon Collie came out, and again when Prince released like 4 discs for the price of 1.)

    1. That Jackson family portrait is horrifying.
Their carpet has been completely consumed by some super-sized slime mold.

          1. Whoever thought that was a good idea has obviously never played with legos.
Once dropped, they'd be lost forever.

  1. So there's a contest at work, sponsored by Samsung, where the winner gets tickets to three minor league games. The only one officially listed is Cubs-White Sox, but hey, free baseball!

The problem is that I have to sell a Samsung product to be entered, and my primary zones either don't have Samsung products or they don't have good Samsung products. Now I have to decide whether I want to intentionally sell third-rate cameras to see two third-rate teams play third-rate baseball. Given how much I love baseball, this is a tougher moral dilemma than it seems.

The Indians and Reds share a ST field right here in Goodyear, and between them there's a game literally every day of spring training. I expect to see a couple. Yesterday I picked up the schedule, and without thinking, I scanned it for the Twins. Whoops.

    1. the winner gets tickets to three minor league games. The only one officially listed is Cubs-White Sox

      Heh.

    2. My favorite part of being in Phoenix (Sun City) for Spring Break/Training was the huge choice of games. We'd just wake up in the morning, open the sports section to the day's schedule and say "Who do we want to see today?"

  2. I've gotta get away from the computer now. Going to pick up wife & baby at about 3pm. CER's been begging to go to the hosp gift shop and I've kept saying "later", well, later ends today and the gift shop closes at 3pm.

I've yet got to flip around car seats and anchor the bassinet to the wall. (AJR could flip that so easily.) CER and HPR will help me get the house back in clean-enough shape once their quiet rest time (no longer naps) is over at 2pm.

        1. Cool. I actually play disc golf just a few blocks from there. I'll make sure to check it out next time I'm up there.

  3. The NBB'ski on the hook for a week of WGOM radio in March. Have been discussing with NBBW, and offered her a day up in the playhouse. So far here is what she has come up with:

    Lady Gaga - Alejandro
Shatner - Ideal Woman or Common People
    Senegalese Owadi - Snuggle
Palestinian Road Music (straight from the souks)
Lawrence of Arabia - modern cut, or orig
Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga - The Lady is a Tramp

  4. Hyperbole is the most awesomeist thing evah!

    “He’s not a fluke.”

That’s a message to Anthony: Don’t mess this up. Stoudemire will return to the Knicks on Monday, and Lin will be a godsend for him. They’ll play pick-and-roll basketball, fit seamlessly together. Out with a groin injury, Anthony watched Lin with a pensive eye, at times devoid of the exuberance of his teammates, at others rollicking along with everyone else. He has to understand: Despite a max contract, his All-Star seasons, his face on the Garden marquee, suddenly Anthony has to fit into Jeremy Lin’s Knicks. Just four games, and yet that’s no exaggeration. Four games, and here’s an unmistakable truth: These Knicks are following Lin.

This was after four games. Riiight.

Now, it may be that nobody in NY wants to follow 'Melo. But equating this little run by Jeremy Lin into the Knicks being "his team" is a bit much.

    1. Yeah, that was pretty excellent. I liked Adele's bit, and I always like watching Dave Grohl do anything. That Nicki Minaj thing was utterly awful, though.

      1. Thanks to having nothing on tv to watch tonight after The Simpsons, I watched a lot more of The Grammy than I planned

I didnt know who Nicki Manaj was until last week when she gave the bird to live tv during the Halftime show (which I didnt watch)
I was bored by her tonight and didnt watch the whole performance.

usually Tony Bennett and guest is awesome, but Carrie Underwood doest have the voice to sign a song from the American Songbook.
Bruno Mars did a song at the beginning of the show that was pretty cool

        1. I didnt know who Nicki Manaj was until last week when she gave the bird to live tv

And they wonder why people would do such things at the Super Bowl.

      2. I find it disappointing that Ms. Minaj doesn't rap much on her own albums. She's actually kind of killer on the mic. Instead we get a lot of boring pop songs and her acting like Lady Gaga-lite in public. It's kind of a serious bummer.

        1. You'll get no argument form me there. She's one of a small handful of female rappers that I can tolerate, and I find her "wacky Nicki" flow to be talented and very enjoyable. I don't know why she would bother with all the "Right Thru Me" R&B nonsense.

          1. Her verse in "Monster" on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is one of the best I've heard in a very long time. It's like a perfect mixture of Lil' Wayne when he was awesome & Princess Superstar.
