  1. I'm going to break my not mentioning Shecky rule for a special occasion:

When I called (Koskie) to talk about Morneau, the first thing he did was say he didn't like my column in which I criticized Joe Mauer. He said he used Twitter to criticize the column, and he wanted me to know about that up front.
One thing he was insistent upon, whether the subject was Morneau's worries or Mauer's limited playing time last year, was that he believes that all elite athletes are driven to compete, and if they don't play it's because they can't play.

I got to give props to Shecky for presenting an opposing view without really providing a counterpoint, but my main reason for posting this is that I miss Koskie even more now than I already did. Torii Hunter was my favorite player of those first three division titles, but I'll Koskie and Radke way more than I'll ever miss Torii (although I still like Torii despite his mouth running over). This makes me really miss Koskie and the way Radke pitched through pain in his final season really makes me miss him as well.

    1. my column in which I criticized Joe Mauer

Souhan thinks this description only fits one of his columns?

    1. All credit goes to meat. They were delicious (although not quiet spicy enough), but I'm expecting the leftovers this week to be spicier having had a chance to sit.

      1. and I owe respects to Doc S. To increase the heat you can always dump in some chipolte peppers... or get some fresh Hatch green chili... or add some vinegar (which can make the pork too acidic, and toughen the final product) ... or just give the drippings a kick with some cayenne.

I tend to soften spicy recipes here for the general public. I've now lived in a couple of locations famous for hot and spicy food, and really can't get enough heat, but I do understand that there is a limit to what other folks want to eat.

  2. This Carling Cup match is pretty entertaining. Liverpool dominating but tied 1-1 with 23 minutes remaining.

    1. Liverpool with two amazing chances right at the start of extra time. If this was hockey we would be saying that the Cardiff goalie is standing on his head.

        1. We're going to penalty kicks. After taking the lead, Liverpool went into a "prevent" defense instead of attacking the goal like they had all game. The result? A Cardiff goal. After the tie, Liverpool went back to attacking and almost score in the last few seconds.

          1. Liverpool wins 3-2 on Penalty kicks!! All three Cardiff misses either hit wood or the missed the net all together.

  3. Not sure if this Pek article was linked already. Pretty much what's been consistently discussed here for the past 2 weeks, but I hadn't read it yet. Also, I really like the photo at the top of the article and the Pek Montage video at the bottom.

      1. i thought he might be suggesting pek! is some form of re-animated creature from the ice age.

    1. bhiggum is correct, that was the link for the "Science is Cool" article at the top. My apologies. This is the link for Jurassic Pek.

      1. "What a professional and committed player Pek is," said Wolves assistant coach Jack Sikman. "I really enjoy working with him. He receives information and puts it to use as well as any big I have worked with."

        "Sikman"????

        Talk about getting Battey'd.

      1. Did he beat Nathan's record from last year? Actually, this might be the best-case scenario that could be expected, assuming no one expected Zumaya to last the year without missing significant playing time. Now the Twins have plenty of time to fill the hole in the bullpen. Hopefully, by signing a free agent and not a trade.

        1. Nevermind. From LEN3:

The Twins will not look outside the organization for bullpen help. They still have 32 pitchers in camp, and Ryan challenged them all Sunday to step up and take the innings they hoped to give Zumaya.

    1. I'm more bummed about this now because I just noticed the awesomeness of the Zumaya 2012 beard.
He and Greg Oden should go into business together.

    1. Barea, Beasley, and Williams for Pau Gasol with the added bonus of facilitating Dwight Howard to the Lakers. Sounds great to a Lakers fan? I bet.

      1. Looking around the internet for NBA trade rumors today is proving difficult how how lopsided some of the deals look for LA. I just thought that idea of Rasheed making a comeback and being viewed as a contributor is even more unrealistic than the Knicks counting on Baron Davis.

      2. In a side column for Sid's page/column is Kahn saying Williams is untouchable. The Lakers will have to be content with someone else.

        1. Is that the column in which Sid cites to WAR repeatedly to show the Twins will be good this year?

          1. Yep. It was really weird to read that, but I figured Sid was just repeating what the WSJ said. Or he had the intern write that section.

    2. I must say it again: why on earth would the Wolves tie up $21 million with Pau Gasol????? They HAVE THE BEST FOUR IN THE LEAGUE AND PEK!

  4. So I was digging through some old files. I had made one of my friends a card on the computer that I gave to her at her wedding. She had been dating the guy for eight years. The card was as follows.

If Other Important Decisions In History Were Thought Out Over 8 Years

Noah would have left them mosquitoes behind.
Napoleon would have saved Russia for last.
Minnesota wouldn't have elected a wrestler.
Jar-Jar Binks would have left on the cutting room floor.
Charles the Second's parents wouldn't have slept together.
The French still would have thought the Maginot Line was a great idea.
Torii wouldn't have dove for that ball.

  5. As I'm wrapping up our taxes, I just wanted to remind a lot of you to remember to deduct your generous donations to the MS Society when Sheenie, Can of Corn, and I walked last May.

    1. Thanks for the reminder. On a completely unrelated note, I thought of you when I read this post...Twins/baseball historian and all that.

  6. The All-Star game has been pretty entertaining so far. Both teams are playing pretty hard.

      1. I wonder how many times someone wins the Oscar for Best Actress and the Razzie for Worst Actress in the same year.

  7. Jim Rash and crew wins for adapted screenplay. Then mocks Angelina Jolie's pose. HAHA.
