GO TWINS!
Yahoo! has Rivera in the lineup, not Butera. I was surprised because Pavano is pitching and Rivera caught last night. I wondered if Gardy was souring on Butera, but it looks like it could be a Yahoo! error or a last-minute switch, which could mean injury, illness or trade.
mlb.com's Gameday has Butera in the lineup and LEN3 hasn't posted a lineup yet.
Twins Twitter has visual evidence of Butera in the lineup, so it would have to be a Yahoo! error or a last-minute switch.
Is the difference between Butera and Rivera even worth noting?
Rivera:
0one error that was called a hit for 15, 'meh' fielderButera: Plus Defender
Much as it pains me, I guess I'll take Butera.
Twayn, if you guys use Co-op let me know any feedback you have. (RE: http://wgom.org/2011/05/18/may-18-2011-3/#comment-9847 )
Will do. Not sure if I'll be invited to sit at the grownups table, though.
Yahoo! messed up? What will Butter's poor fantasy owners do?
Curse. They're (he's?) used to it by now.
Anyone who owns Butters in fantasy had better be cursing himself.
I badly need another catcher, and I never even considered Butters. Or Rivera.
Oooh, Edit button returns! I feel really good about this game all of a sudden!
It's a miracle!
This goes down as the game where Morneau turned it around. CALLIN' IT
Mount up!
Yay! Whose got the runs now!
Everyone who ate the fish tacos.
Glad someone took a swing at that hanging curve.
Glad it wasn't Delmon.
Okay, are we going to have to make one run stand up tonight?
I hope not. We really need to start scoring 4+ runs, that's sort of the benchmark for winning games for this team.
Almost there!
the a's announcers seem to be reading the wrong scouting report on delmon young.
I think perhaps I'm not paying enough attention to tonight's game, since I had convinced myself they were playing the Mariners again tonight until just now.
Pavano
stachehas a no-hitter going!Bert and Coomer trying to decide if it's possible for a baseball player to over-think things. Not a problem for those two (former) baseball players, I'd say.
Spantastic catch in CF.
well, that was humorous, at least.
Oh, Plouffe.
TrEvor!
Dang, Plouffe...
damn you, plouffe.
whoa-ho, what's this? 5 minutes, you say?
And of course the two out error leads to runs. /sigh
Okay, I'm freaking out. There's a countdown timer on my last LTE. Does it blow up when the timer reaches zero?
Unfortunately, yes.
Well, considering the quality of most of my comments, I can't say it's not warranted.

Oh, man, I loved that show.
Dido. I hate how the movies ruined the ensemble approach in favor of all tom cruise all the time.
Twins Baseball.
aggressive.
i'm going to get dizzy on the longer gamelogs...
That was crazy.
Redemption for Plouffe.
I'm watching the free MLB.tv game right now (Atlanta @ Arizona) and the picture and sound quality are just top notch on my new laptop. Of course, this only annoys me further that I cannot watch the Twins via this service.
You got a Thinkpad, right?
I did, yeah. X120E with the Bluetooth and RAM upgrades.
I'm getting my daughter a laptop for graduation. It took some selling, but I've got her wanting a Thinkpad now instead of a Macbook. That should save me at least two or three Benjamins.
I've got no complaints so far. It took me a second to get used to Windows 7 after 8 or 9 years of XP (Holy cow, that puts things in perspective) and to get all my music & movies back, but nothing wrong with the actual machine. Only thing is I think I meant to get the X220 which has the DVD drive that this one lacks.
No, wait the X220 doesn't have an optical drive either. Anyway, I was looking at several models, at least one with a DVD drive and this one. I think I got myself confused and thought the X120e had a drive and it doesn't.
But those models are ultraportables, so you sacrifice the internal optical drive for a smaller, lighter footprint. I'll probably go with one of the T models with a 14" display.
Yeah, and I was going for ultraportability, or at least more so than my 17" behemoth. Lugging that thing to the archives every day was a bitch. I just got my models mixed up when I finally ordered. And mo chailín has a DVD drive so I can use that if need be.
It's a big, but welcome change. I remember people revolting about having to switch to XP.
I love(d) XP. Like I said, I had it for 8 or 9 years, ever since I build a tower in HS (2002ish). When I got my last laptop in '08 I actually paid a little extra to get XP over Vista, a choice I'm still sure was the right one. The differences aren't much, but W7 is so much better than Vista, at least to me.
I've never used Vista, and your decision then probably was the right one. It's just that the XP, Vista, 7 progression reminds me of the 98, Me, XP progression. Not that I'm surprised, since every other release has been a dud and made people gun-shy about upgrading.
see, if they hadn't let Shatner direct every other OS and just stuck with Nimoy....
Oh, God, Windows ME was the worst! I ran it for about two months and reinstalled 98. Worst memory management in the history of computing.
See, we leave the old basement and suddenly the long knives come out for Micro$oft. Heh. That's freedom, baby! 😉
May save you dough in the short term.... Ive had a MacBook for 9 years that has been my workhorse for Photoshop and traveling and I expect that the little engine that could will keep on keepin on.
I'm not opposed to Macs, they are good quality machines, but they do charge a premium that I haven't been able to justify in my mind.
Oh, totally. I'm a fan for the interface with Photoshop and illustrator. I've also become a fan of their design and build quality. All that considered, I'm not a rabid Mac fan boy. I see the cost benefit breakdown for pc purchases pretty clearly.
Wait, we gave up a lead, then immediately reclaimed it? What team is this?
The Minnesota Red Cats.
Evening folks.
Howdy, meat.
Hola, carne!
How's it goin', Meat?
I'm still alive, which is pretty good. You?
About the same.
That was a really good catch by Revere.
Delmon doesn't even get to the third base line on that ball. Nice catch.
Is it too much to hope that del's days are numbered?
Most likely. He's only 25*!!
*He is 25, right? I don't really care, he hasn't really improved since coming here and I'm getting to the point where I can't watch him play the outfield without thinking, "I could do better than that."
Well, he definitely improved last year, but it's starting to look like an outlier.
One of these is not like the other.
Oh vey.
But move last year to somewhere around -0.5 WAR and he's on the upswing now...
I appreciate your attempt at positivity. Really, I do, but that graph is pretty scary.
it's starting to look like an outlier.
Actually, it looks more like a plane crash.
May Day! May Day!
He started slowly last year, too. He was just starting to hit before he got hurt and this has obviously set him back. In his final 25 PAs before getting hurt, he was hitting .300/.400/.400 with five walks and no strikeouts and he had just 9 Ks and 5 BBs on the season which is a very good ratio for him, but now he comes back probably too soon and is swinging at everything and is 0-2 in every at-bat. The only pitches he takes are fastballs down the middle and he gets pitches to hit and can only foul them back. He just needs to get his timing again. When the rest of the team sucks, it's just hard to be patient.
Probably. I've been pretty stunned by the degree of his regression this year.
Coomdog talking about taking loads in the back. Very enlightening.
The Kelly Wells Story ?
Hi-oooooooooo.
Only the back? Seems a little tame...
Cleaned up for in-flight viewing...
Twins are T-9th in MLB in GIDP (35) coming into tonight. I would have thought they were higher than that. Most is St. Louis with 54 (!) and fewest are Arizona and Seattle with 18.
You need baserunners to hit into DPs.
Or Kelly Wells.
Dampness helps...
That's more like it.
Cuddy could've used that one.
The Canadian lass behind the Canucks' bench is quite the looker.
Damn I noticed her too...
I still want Vancouver to lose.
The Red Wings are already out, I'm cool with whatever happens. Mo chailín hates the Canucks because her HS boyfriend loved them. She, being a woman of excellent taste (see: Me), of course likes the Avs.
The only NHL I've ever really watched are the Blackhawks the past three years. The Canucks were a major foe.
Though if it makes Morneau hit better I'll take it.
The only NHL I've ever really watched are the Blackhawks
SECORD SUCKS! SEEE-CORD SUCKS! SEEE-CORD SUCKS!!!
Dampness costs the twins another homerun. -- bert
Brian, Ryan, Mark and Mike Sweeney are not related to each other. I could have sworn at least Mike and Mark were related.
Hi guys!
Hi! Also, bye! I'm heading out for the night.
Dr. Numbers.
Speaking of numbers, I looked over the proof that the world is supposed to end on Sunday. Turns out, it's not mathematically valid.
Did the proof include stick figures with "The End is Nigh!" signs?
That would be slightly more convincing than the actual proof.
As a great man once said,
"Red means run, son
Numbers add up to nothin''
Was that Bert?
Deerhoof.
Look out, mama, there's a white boat comin' up the river
Pavano completes the quality start.
I'm out. I'm already up about 20 min. later than I wanted to be. See you fine gentlemen (and Bootsy*) in the morning
*Burrrrnnn Just teasing buddy.
Yeah, take that 17" to bed, Mags.
That's what she said.
Who, Kelly Wells?
They're going to rename it the butera line, right?
The (Karen) Carpenter Line.
That is some inspired work. Bravo.
Measure twice, cut once.
that's a mighty thin line.
I think the Butera line will equal half of the Mendoza line.
I like this option.
Length preserved, as I am here to spell Magoo.
Sweet.
MVPFielding Grammyist!Cuddy does the deuce.
I balls that double play.
We need to score this inning. I'm not really up for an extra inning West Coast game.
I should have also specified that I'm not up for a loss tonight, either.
Revere would have had that one.
Dammit. How many rocket line drives have we had for outs tonight?
Oofdah.
Good call by the ump.
Got him at second for two nights in a row!
Knowing nothing about the play other than what Gameday tells me, I'm impressed by Perkins fielding and throw to second.
That was un expected.
I'm getting more used to this whole "Perkins is good" thing, but innings like the one he just had are still kind of shocking.
Another short stack of pancakes down the hatch.
Is this going to be another game we lose because we can't score more than 3 runs? Our hitting has seemed better tonight--better than 3 runs worth anyway.
9 hits, 3 K's, no walks. I want more walks. Hitting has been better, even with Butters waving his noodle bat around.
Yeah, we've had a lot of lineouts though. At least I didn't feel like I was watching a team that was totally incapable of hitting.
Man, I'm starting to trust Perkins. Worried this is a bad idea.
Spamtown represent.
Now what? Does Capps come in?
I see the exact same thought crossed your mind about 10 seconds before it hit me.
Well, started the inning against a lefty, so that made sense. Now to Twitchy. Ok then.
Perk, Twitchy, then what? Stirstick? Is he back with the club, I can't remember.
Oh, crap, here comes the clown car from the bullpen. How many relievers can we throw out there this inning?
I would have preferred runs in that situation.
Wuertz has been nigh on unhittable since returning from his rehab assignment.
Obligatory.
Remember when we had a catcher who could hit?
Yeah, I really liked Brian Harper.
It makes me mad that other teams are allowed to use players at the catcher position that can hit the ball.
Twitchy looking to send everyone to bed before midnight.
Nathan is really zinging these intentional walk pitches.
85 MPH.
I don't like the way this is going.
Gordo just advanced Suzuki to third. Huh?
He just knows what Twitchy is going to do, that's all.
Advanced Suzuki?
Cue the strings.
Find. The. Plate.
It's hard to watch Joe pitch these days.
FU, Ellis. You have to swing that ash.
That's how I want Butters to act during his plate appearances.
Remove the lumber from your shoulder, son.
w00t. Gameday says those last two were, uh, questionable.
My eyes agree with Gameday.
Strike 2 looked a lot more convincing than Strike 3.
Nathan given a temporary reprieve by the ump.
Ellis showed up the ump on strike 2. No hope on that strike call.
I think you're probably right. The bat flip and the disgusted walk back after strike two was called expanded the strike zone by about a foot on either side of the plate, methinks.
Nathan didn't need that extra foot. I was surprised to see this. Those are nasty pitches.
Joe thought that was pretty funny.
Free Baseball Alert!
Bonus baseball! Let's play 9 more!
shaky. I'm glad he only needed two outs.
Yay, Joe! Let's get those bats going, boys!
That wasn't easy.
Well, Delmon, Butters, does it really matter??
This is Revere's role. Del is the new Revere.
I wasn't around, but when I saw that Revere had the start, I knew that Del would get to bat for the catcher.
Delmon strikeout, coming up!
I don't mind being wrong.
D Young for D Butera?
Meh.
Delmontastic! Managing!
At least we can't possibly give up 6 runs in the 11th this time.
Well, shut my mouth!
A's BASEBALL!
Twins baseball!
Mariners baseball!!111!!!
A's baseball!!!
That was a horribly broken play. Lucky it ended up working.
Casilla still sucks, though.
Oh, for fun!
Shocking.
Sometimes by screwing up Laddie, you do the right thing!
Sometimes.
Twins baseball.
hey, look: comment 10,000
For bS?
all in a day's work. I can do twice that on a weekend day.
Aw, you're just a compiler, doc. 😉
Twins baseball! I think...
(Dazzle with an exceptionally muddled call thus far in the 10th.)
Casilla's hit about took Gameday down- that was a long wait to find out what happened.
Are you effing kidding me, Span?
Plouffffe!
cut off??? A's baseball!!!!!
Nice hitting, Trevor.
Plouffe! Deep enough to get Young in!
PlOuffe!!!
ploffe!
err, +u
I hope Plouffe just keeps atoning for that error all season long.
He knows what he did.
It may have taken 10 innings, but we finally got more than 3 runs!
Let's make it stick.
This is not what I expected.
Just checking in to see what condition my condition is in. Looks pretty good. Plooooouffe!
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKVMo0K9u_s
Man-sized tub of shortening now on for the Twins...
Terry Forster plays for the Twins?
Forster is like Mini-Me to Capps.
Batters due up for the As this inning are batting .234 .234 .216
Nice.
Twinsesque.
Our 7/8/9 guys are all batting under .200. But our 1 and 2 beat theirs.
those would be three of our best hitters.
We've got a winning streak, gentlemen.
Never in doubt.
A win streak!!!!111one111!!!
"The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single." -- Chairman Joe
That was a loud last out.
The way it sounded and the way he looked following through, I would've Gordoed the hell out of that if I had to call it.
2 game win streak! That's like a 7 game win streak for a normal team.
Atta Fatty. You may win me over yet, if you never give up another run.
That's a 10-inning game in 2:37. East coast, take note.
4 runs FTW. Puppies!
Oh, sweet Jesus. Puppies.
Puppies!
those are sad puppies. Where are the happy puppies?
They ran away. It's Mill City from here on out.
Good night, Cruella.
Sweet dreams, pally.
ooo. vibrant!
Anyone see the ninth inning for the Royals? They were down one run.
So when that part of the lineup came up again in the 11th, down 2 runs, instead of Frenchy and Butler with their .881 and .826 OPSs, Yost had to (he had no one left on the bench) let Dyson and Aviles pitch with OPSs of .470 and .725. Both made outs.
Feliz must have some pickoff move. Someone warn D-Span.
Third video here.
I predict a sweep. The Twins started the season incapable of a winning streak. Their first four victories were followed by a loss. Then they won two straight, then three straight twice (followed by six- and nine-game losing streaks), so to continue the pattern, they must win at least three, but I say they should be going on to four. Anyways, a sweep will be needed to get to four.
