21-9 just feels so much better than 17-37. Twins are looking to sweep the Rays at home for the first time in six years. Wade Davis versus Francisco Liriano in the Twins' most important game of all time.

GO Twins!
I'm digging the Triple-A outfield. It's fun to watch outfielders who can run, and, you know, catch.
I'm much more sold on Repko than Raging Tonsils, but maybe that's just cuz 'ko has been around longer.
I love defense.
The new Capps banner is excellent!
Gardenhire has asked for Plouffe to play first in Rochester. Maybe he can be Ty Wigginton. That's a useful player.
Chief Wigginton has hit 20+ HRs four separate times in the Majors, and twice in the minors. Plouffe has never hit more than 15 in a season in the minors, although he's already got 15 this year in Rochester. But he's 25. Wigginton did it at ages 21 and 22. But I doubt it.
I hope you are right, and I hope this season is an indication that Plouffe has grown into a reasonable power threat.
Capps worked yesterday, so he's not available today, right? /straw grasping
According to Kelsie Smith, he won't get the ball in a save opp today.
I'm worried that Nathan won't be available. Hopefully, he'll be allowed to finally work back-to-back games, if needed. He did that in AAA, so I would think he could do it in the majors, but somehow I doubt he'll be available in a day game after a night game. Here's hoping for a blowout win, complete-game dominance by Liriano or a walkoff win.
Joe Mauer's available to pitch.
But he won't do it EVEN THOUGH WE'RE PAYING FIVE BARILLION DOLLARS!!! RAWRRRR!!!
Afternoon Baseball!
hoooody, zap!
Say, I'm going to be in town next week instead of the week after, so unless you want to meet to "watch" the HR derby, I don't mind if you want to skip this time around.
That's cool, I'm not much on the HR derby. Catch you on your next trip.
Just showing them who's boss.
Hitting Johnny Damon isn't a bad way to start a game, really.
This, and last night's ending must be the Twins exorcising the Demon of Damon.
Franchise sends them down in the 1st. And in a related note the Australia-Norway WWC game suddenly got interesting.
Twins pitcher hits their first batter, Twins' first batter hits their pitcher.
Symmetry.
Hi everybody!
Norm!meat!Who is in the booth with dick today?
Nevermind, TK.
I'm both intrigued and still unwilling to turn it to the Twins' feed.
TK's strong suit was the post game presser, he's not very good with the open format or color guys.
so, he's on par with the rest of the booth?
Kurtz Gordoed that fly ball.
Apparently Upton was "looking up" at the ball because that helps you catch it.
I missed that, but I've been enjoying Bob Kurtz on the broadcasts. He has a good voice, a calm delivery, and doesn't spend the whole game trying to show how smart he is.
I like him, too.
Count me as a fan, too.
Oh, I just spilled my lunch because dick wet his pants with the call on that fly out.
I read that "I just spilled my lunch and got my dick wet"
aw, d@mn Shopvac
OK Frankie that happened, don't get pouty now.
At least the bottom half of the order was nice enough to not give him any time to think about it.
Sorry guys - I've been here the whole time - TK's incredible personality must of put me to sleep - I just woke up and here I am at my desk with the game on.
Frankie can't stand Damon's stupid face.
Who can?
Liriano channeling his inner Cicotte today by beaning the first batter and then giving up 2 runs in the 2nd? Nobody wants to look bad, Frankie's gonna have to do it all himself.
Thanks Blue. You've been doing good lately.
USA-Sweden WWC is starting soon. Of all the day to need a sickie, I picked a pretty good day to pass out at the doctor.
The Rays' announcers want to introduce some sort of appeal replay system like in the NFL.
No robo-umps, no deal.
I agree.
MVP!
Cuddy go tie game.
Cuddy is my Buddy
Dang, we need to name Cuddy to the All-Star team 6-7 times a season
Would other sports count? Cuddy is enough of a team player to do that.
He's got a good chance in the NBA and NFL this year...
Yeah, but we don't need him to be awesome in February. Although, if he's named in October...
Joe who?
Damn shift.
Interesting decision to cut off that throw. He would've been nailed at the plate.
OK, who's the long man du jour?
C'mon Jimmer, serve up something starchy.
Skinksnack doing a nice job so far.
Not a good inning for Sweet Danny V.
There are NO errors.
I would've preferred if two fewer runs were scored in that half-inning, but it does make the comeback that much better.
This seems as good as time as any to start watching US-Sweden.
Yep, just kicked off.
Let's see how long I can stand to listen to Julie Foudy today.
Just focus on Ian Darke's voice and everything will be all right.
Hope Solo is the Mauer of Women's Soccer.
If by that you mean I love her and want her babies, then yes, I agree.
She's the imposing backstop that you can't help but have a crush on.
After that Swedish PK I'm going back to the Twins.
I've got the gamecast on the laptop and USA-Sweden on TV
Thome-tastic!
Mashed yams.
Never a good idea to send him there.
I just watched the highlight of Jimmers getting thrown out at the plate. He barely brushed the catcher, and the poor guy almost ended up getting whiplash.
JI
JIM THOME is just too nice to barrel him over.
I'm not sure Jimmers can get his shoulder down and still "run". It was a much closer play than I expected it was going to be.
Two hours for five innings? Sheesh.
Ullger'd
This is one slow ballgame.
Rodriguez nearly chipped the Swedish keeper. Off the crossbar and over for a goalkick.
Aw, FFS. Deflection off the wall, goal for Sweden. Shoddy defending by Buehler to give away that free kick in the first place.
Unlucky goal there.
It's going to take some fight back now.
Nishioka showing some signs of offensive life lately.
Twins must've figured out how to play Nishioka's DVD finally.
That regional coding stuff can be tricky.
Small K-zone for Revere- I know he's short, but there's gotta be a top of the zone there somewhere.
I love where Gameday is showing pitch #3 (the wild pitch) going.
Wild pitch or wildest pitch?
He threw the pitch... into SPACE.
My screen must be too small to see where that pitch ended up.
Time to plumb the depths of the bullpen, Gardy.
Good thing Joe isn't catching...
He plumbed, alright, and he found himself a turd.
First pitch in the dirt? I'm shocked.
Super Mijares Bros?
A 3-2 FASTBALL for the strikeout. Even when he succeeds Mijares is unlikeable.
Edited to add: also a 3-0 fastball, and a 3-1 fastball both taken. It was pretty much exactly the same progression as the Prince Fielder at bat.
Damn that Mauer, always calling for the fastb... wait, what?
RIP Sports Show with Norm McDonald. My friend Sad Bill Cosby greatly expresses my views on the show's cancellation.
I just saw these redundant headlines at the Strib:
heh heh
CUDDY GO BOOM!
BOOM!
CGB.
Boomstick Cuddy, they call him.
*makes note on calendar* Aug. 6th: name Cuddyer to All-Star team
YES! Getting Cuddy on the Lew Ford All-Stars continues to pay off.
looks like i got here at the right time.
It looks like I picked the wrong day to stop sniffing glue.
Who Boy!
Last inning, I noticed on Gameday that Cruz had yet to allow a homer this season and totally spooky'd someone hitting one this game.
Effin' giveback runs. Gardy got all the turds pulled out of the bullpen yet?
GOSO
Feh. One step forward, four steps back.
Wow.
Our relievers sure do suck.
That was a fast 4 runs.
oh, joy.
why is burnett still on this ballclub (i was typing that before the homer too)?
because Gardy didn't want to win this game?
Because Slama has leprosy?
because winning is overrated?
Because using Chuck James is considered performance-enhancing?
Since beginning of June for Burnett (prior to today): 13 games, 9.1 IP, 8 K, 0 BB, 2.89 ERA, 1 HR, .518 OPS against. I'd rather have Burnett in there than Capps at this point.
Burnett's going to blow this, isn't he?
Yeah, the old internet connection at work is running pretty slow today.
Done and done.
Perkins would have been pitching this inning if Capps didn't suck so much.
Welp, that was fun while it lasted.
twins bball.
Nothing a Cuddy grand slam next inning can't fix.
oy.
Two innings, 4+ runs to score. Unlike earlier in the year, this is at least slightly possible for the Twins to do.
F-ing Capps coulda done that.
US GOAL! 2-1 now. Still 25 minutes to tie things up.
At least the White Sox are next.
GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!
C'mon Repko.
Matt Tolbert pinch-hitting for Rene Rivera??? The point of that is...?
Nothing? Gardy is making a philosophical point there.
he's a nihilist?
f-ing rivera coulda done that.
If you have three catchers on the roster, you have to use at least two per game, right?
Nishi does seem to have found his swing back.
nishioka is
en fuego燃えている!The Twins are going to rack up a ton of hits in this loss.
That Revere kid seems to be putting the ball in play a lot more too. Does he watch with Nishi?
I'm liking this Nishi-Revere combo. If we ever get Span and Kubel back, we've got some decent pieces to stick together.
Boo.
damn. farnsworth was warming up too. i was really hoping for a matchup between the professor and JI
JIM THOME.
i don't think FSN should be playing music from an album called "race to the bottom".
boo
Wow the pen really, really sucks.
aww, cute. dumatrait wanted to suck too.
dick: do you like the squeeze play?
TK: when it works.
heh, nice one, TK.
stinky
Guess we should have left the Smokestack in.
I'm not happy with butters' pitch selection.
Ouch. Disappointing game for the US women.
And by US women you mean the Minnesota Twins bullpen, correct?
they just wanted to play Brazil in the next round is all.
Who is A. Russell and why is he pitching like he belongs in the Twins bullpen?
you hit for thome, but you put mauer in? i'm confused...
Bases weren't loaded for Thome, of course. A single here for Mauer, and we're only down by 5!
White Sox about to lose. Updating.
Konerko flies out to deep LF. 1 out.
Quentin goes down. 2 out.
AJ grounds out weakly to 1st. Game Over.
Royals win 4-1.
Gurgh. Glad that's over. Hide the fireworks and cover the puppies' eyes, boys.
Too late...
oh, that is sweet. Your doing, Bootsy?
I had a meeting that started right after the bottom of the 7th. I was annoyed when I left my desk. I guess the timing was pretty decent after all.
got home to see Mauer strikeout to end the game. 14 hits and only 1 extra base hit (Cuddys HR) ouch
I was going to mention this last night, but forgot. Phil DUmatrait looks like Boof Bonser, but left handed
