In addition to snagging Stars of the Lid - And Their Refinement of the Decline (h/t to AMR), I got Michael Gordon's Timber this week.
Gordon was the composer of "Industry" which was the hit of my guest-DJ week. His latest piece is purely percussion, played entirely on six 2'x4's. I've only listened to the whole thing once through so far, but it's remarkable how it surges and phases layers in and out. I've seen reviews that compared it to Reich's 'Drummng' but it reminds me more of 'Music for 18 Musicians' although even then there is more play in the tempo than in Reich's minimalism.

8. Architecture in Helsinki - It's Almost A Trap / Fingers Crossed
9. The Animals - We Gotta Get Out of This Place / Retrospective
T. Jimmy Smith - On the Sunny Side of the Street / Back at the Chicken Shack
I wonder if that's the same "Sunny Side of the Street" as The Pogues.

*Notes:
1. Somehow, I found this Japanese import used at Cheapo Uptown for $8.95. I'm the contrarian who prefers Yorke's solo album to anything I've heard from the full band, and "Harrowdown Hill" is my favorite off that album. The Bug is Kevin Martin, who's done great things as the Bug lately, connecting dubstep to Jamaican dub and the darker strains of dancehall, has also done work as part of Techno Animal and Ice. Somehow, his sound is very consistent, but manages to tie to a current-to-the-moment vein of electronic beat music. It's like he's "Oh, that's hot now? Well, guess what? That's pretty much what I've been doing the whole time." Although I like his sound and this remix, I don't think the Bug improved the original.
5. Hat tip to New Guy.
9. One of the DJs recently played some Burdon on the WGOM videos. So I went and d/led the two greatest hits collections that my dad had.
ooh. His discourse on the Doors is right in Bootsy's wheelhouse. I, personally, just moved on to the Iron Maiden entry.
Do you believe in dreams? In Dreams? IN DREAMS?????
Dude, the line was "Do you believe in miracles?"
I think he knows that.
Yeah, that seemed to be the point of the first couple of paragraphs.
Ah yes, I misread. I thought it said hadn't instead of had. Never mind. /litella
He left out Steely Dan. heh heh
I do take objection to Metallica being a descriptive name. They haven't resembled that name for going on 20 years now.

How do you pronounce #3? Box?
I've also heard not good things about TCIV. Ever since I saw a Li'l Wayne metaphor lyric generator, it blew the lid off him for me. All I can do now when I listen to him is count all the "I'm ___ like ___" lyrics.
That's supposed to be an upside-down 'V', but I'm still not entirely sure how you'd pronounce that, either. The site says 'arc', but that is beyond stupid.
Like another site said, "(something intangible, like 'life' or 'the game') is just a (vulgar word for female or female genatalia), I'm just (colorful euphemism for 'having sex with')." That happens, like, nine times on the album. Didn't bother me so much on III (which I had to listen to afterward to make sure that it hadn't diminished, and for the most part, it hasn't), but on IV it grates my eas EVERY. DAMN. TIME.
Like this: ∧ ?
Yeah, it shows up on my home computer just fine, but not at my work pc. Language or font pack or something, I suppose.
I used the html symbol ∧ for "and (logic)"
Could also try: /\ ?

Yeah, but that was annoying as all get out.
Then again, the music on the CD......maybe it was fair warning?
Wilco just announced two shows in Minneapolis December 6 and 7 at the State Theater
Goddamnit, every time they're in Des Moines I'm not.
I suppose I could see their show in Berlin. That's only 4 hrs away on train, and I've never been there.
Guess not, the website says Berlin is sold out.
Ooh, check this out from the band:
We're gonna do a special under-the-radar stream of the new record tomorrow for Wilcoworld only. Here's the deal -- as a reward for your labors, ours, and those of our forefathers/mothers -- starting at 12 Noon Central time tomorrow (Saturday) and for 24 hours straight we're gonna stream The Whole Love in its entirety, at wilcoworld.net. That's right. Your first chance to hear the whole thing is tomorrow. Trust us, you'll be glad you made time to check it out.
