    1. Oh, this could be fun.

“Rick would never agree to anything with Kahn,” one league official connected to Adelman said Monday. “This had to be [a deal] with Taylor. …Rick has talked many times of his dislike for Kahn.”

      Oh, and this.

Yes, this happened because Adelman finally found a way to justify the possibilities against the biggest drawback of the job: walking into the office and getting a daily dose of Kahn’s empty thoughts on basketball, his embarrassing management style.

      1. This sounds a lot like the White Sox. Ozzie is Reinsdorf's best buddy while Ozzie and Williams barely get along.

      2. Ok, I'm calling b.s. on that piece because of the drivel about Rubio. If Adelman wasn't excited about the prospect of Rubio as his point guard, why the hell would he have taken the job? He doesn't need the money.

      3. I don't know how much of that article is a fact, "finessed" fact, fib, fabrication or outright falsity. I do know that I'm excited to have Adelman running this team, even if only on the court. I also know that I'm onboard with any plan to get Kahn out of the T-Wolves front office.

      4. Souhan linked to this and compounded it by calling Woj the best basketball writer out there. Pot calling the kettle -- no, more like the skunk calling the durian fruit wonderfully scented.

  1. Since the minor league seasons are over, I've started poking around the websites of the Twins affiliates to see what's there. The New Britain Rock Cats did a series of player profiles during the season. They're a little old now, but I thought you might be interested in them, so I'm going to start linking them. Today's profile is of Michael Tarsi.

    1. The worst part about that is the idea that different bats provide that much of a home run gap. Wood bats for all, I say.

      1. The problem there is cost. Wood bats break more often, so it's more expensive to have them. With the new composite bats, that's changed somewhat since they're so expensive, but wood still remains the costliest option.

  2. My Weather Channel Desktop is lit up in red and I'm hearing loud rumbling outside my window. I thought I left Minnesota.

    1. I don't understand why it would help him to focus more on weightlifting and less on flexibility, but maybe some of you who know more about this stuff can explain it to me.

      1. My guess would be because he complained about his legs being too weak to begin with. Mauer probably is focusing on flexibility to avoid further injury.

    1. Heh, a co-worker sent me that this morning. I went down and showed him the guns and said, "reduce testosterone this!"

    2. It's crazy! The article is posted online, yet it has a reasonable and well thought out comment!

Does the study say anything about the weight change of those males?
More one spends time with the kids,
less exercise >> body fat up >> testosterone down

        1. Since my kids treat me like I'm a jungle gym , I'm getting plenty of exercise. I have no idea what my testosterone levels are, however.

    1. I vaguely recall a Russell Baker(??) column from the early 1980s, in which he wrote in the voice of a father from ancient Rome, complaining about the decadence and laziness of the "youth of today". Chariot drag racing, drunkenness and debauchery, lack of respect for their elders.

These kinds of studies always leave me suspicious. The respondents are not "interested subjects", as we like to say in the experimental biz, so their responses always must be taken with a large grain of salt. The death of character has been lamented for as long as there have been children.

    1. I flipped to the game for literally a minute and a half last night. Weirdly, it was that minute and a half. I replayed it a couple of times to see if I'd heard properly, had a chuckle, then went on with my evening. It was used so conversationally that it was barely noticeable.

    2. My wife caught it but I didn't notice. Maybe because I spent the weekend with 6 friends from high school. It is amazing how quickly one's language reverts to "guy talk" after a couple days.

    3. Here I assumed it was going to be a comment that the quarterback left the ball up and needed to improve to play at the NFL level.

  3. Cuddyer and Kubel both in the lineup. Mauer at first base with Parmelee on the bench against lefty Bruce Chen.

  4. i had a "fun with regional airports and connections" day. today's flight path:

    ORD-CLT-LYH[drive]ROA-CLT-PIT.

i had to run from one end of CLT to the other to make that PIT connection. if i had missed it, i would have gotten a "buy 6 airports and get your 7th free!" deal and been treated to a brief tour of PHL. thank goodness for small favors.

      1. uh, so nice you have to go there twice...?

that, and everything connects through there or atlanta.
