It took me like two months, but I'm not really loving Colin Stetson's New History Warfare Vol. 2: Judges. Probably time to buy it. It's been a hell of a week for me at work (I think my brain needs a dual-core processor), and this is hitting the spot. Especially the very song that was a featured WGOM video, "Red Horse". Thanks, Hitman!
With work, I haven't been listening to the videos as they come, but I keep them in my RSS feed and listen on the weekends.

I suppose this is the place to shamelessly plug my brother's band Coriolis Effect. Here is their Facebook page. (he's far left, plays the piano.) He gave me a cd of their stuff this past weekend, but it's jazz, which I really don't know enough about to give much of an opinion one way or another.
he's far left

Sorry about that. Them damn college kids are always trying to interject politics into everything.

You got it, AMR!
When I started my iPod on the bus this morning, I knew that I would not start a new random ten once I got into the office...

T. Nick Didkovsky “Amalia's Secret (1994)” Bang on a Can Classics*
E. Jugoe “Bad Man Like Good Tings” Tracks That Missed the Boat, Volume One
*Notes:
1. “Damn!”
3. This song's like a dub version of “Russell”, which must've been like their “hit”.
8. Free Noisetrade compilation. I didn't know what this was at first, my guess was Shearwater, but as far as I know, I've only got one Shearwater song on my iPod, which was the only song I sampled that I really, really liked. This wasn't that song. Much like most of Shearwater, this is OK, but it's not really my bag.
9. A full CD album of Thomas Brinkmann's remixes of Richie Hawtin's Concept series of minimal techno 12"s release one per month in 1996. Discogs.com sums it up nicely: “These are not regular remixes but rather re-recordings of the original records using Brinkmann's dual-tone two-arm turntable.” Very good, dubby presentation with unexpected rhythms arriving like moiré patterns. Here's an image of the liner notes.
10. This is the same CD that has Michael Gordon's Industry on it, which was the favorite of Daneeka's Ghost week at the old .com.
I keep meaning to bring this up, but a couple of albums have caught my eye in a "I wonder what AMR thinks of these" kind of way.
Have you listened to the new The Field album (Looping State of Mind, I think)? I wasn't blown away by any of the tracks I've heard, so I haven't searched it out since it's release.
Also, I got the latest from Mika Vainio of Pan Sonic (Life (...It Eats You Up)) and it's some interesting guitar driven noise/drone stuff. Thought you might like it.
I know this wasn't directed at me, but I listened to Looping State of Mind three times, with drastically differing results.
Once while driving, which is not at all the right sort of situation to be listening to that sort of album.
Once while laying in my listening chair late at night (feel sound asleep within about 10 minutes, though I desperately tried not to).
Once while sitting at the office last weekend while trying to get some work done. It actually worked pretty well for that, so I guess for me, it gets the horrible designation of 'background music'.
Sorry, I know there are a bunch of electronic music guys here, but I always associate it with AMR. This actually matches pretty well with my impression. I think I have enough background music though, so I might skip this one.
Much like DG and Nibs here, I'm underimpressed with this Field album, although I'll give it a few more tries. I liked the first two quite a bit (Although the first more than the second: diminishing returns?) and most of his remixes. If he's having problems with original works, he should commission some band to record something new and then remix that.
I'll check out the Vainio. I listened to a lot of Pan Sonic in my college days, but it was mostly the Osasto EP over and over. I never really got into their albums as much as I believed I did. And then Kesto came out, and I downloaded it and burnt it to CDs and never really got through it. Maybe I should try again now that I have an iPod.
I saw Pan Sonic at the 400 Bar in May 1999 (opening for Trans Am). It was pretty cool. It was finals week and I was overtired and started falling asleep while staying conscious plus the music and visuals made the whole thing unreal. On the old IDM listserv, I mentioned that I would love a video that just had the music and visuals. One of the guys around the band (not Ilpo or Mika) e-mailed me directly to be patient, they had filmed the tour and a concert video would be released.
Looks like that came out in 2008.
That's a really interesting idea. Has that been done before, where an electronic artist essentially starts a "song farm" band so that they can remix the stuff?
I can't think of any instances, but it seems like something I might have heard of.

I think I like that Lana Del Rey song best of all I've heard so far, and I didn't think anything could get better than "Video Games".
And I finally did find her deleted first album on my illicit download service of choice. I just had looked before it showed up.
'Blue Jeans' is quite surperior to 'Video Games', and I agree, that's quite a feat. I'm very interested in what else she might come out with.
The first album is decent, but nothing as striking as either of the two songs she's come out with since then.

The albums are awesome.
