Ha Ha Tonka will be opening for Robert Randolph and the Family Band at First Ave one week from today. I have a standing offer to buy anyone I know their first HHT ticket, but with a $20 cover, I hope I don't get a rush of takers.
I've now listened to a few of these Randolph albums, and I don't really them that much. Reminds me of my least favorite songs from Fishbone's Reality of My Surroundings and Give a Monkey a Brain...: generally those that Angelo Moore did not sing on. Without the Angelo-ey goodness surrounding the others' songs, I doubt I would have their songs a second listen. They do seem like they'd be a fun band to see live, particularly with someone to dance with. But preggers EAR won't be able to go.
Zola Jesus will be playing at the 7th Street Entry on Wednesday night. I missed her last time around. I should probably get to this show, before she has to play bigger venues.
Anyways, you may now share your random T1E1N.
Let's start this off with ten songs that remind everyone of Nirvana.
The Beatles--Here Comes The Sun
George Strait--Heartbroke
Wade Hayes--Undo The Right
The Doors--L.A. Woman
Ken Prymus--Suicide is Painless
Bryan Adams--Somebody
Alan Silvestri--Back to the Future
Sammy Davis Jr--Guys and Dolls
New Kids on the Block--I Remember When
Billy Ray Cyrus--Cover to Cover
Sammy makes me think more of Soundgarden, but otherwise...
'Enjoy the Silence' - Depeche Mode Violator
'Situation Vacant' - The Kinks Something Else by The Kinks
'Industrial Disease' - Dire Strait Love Over Gold
'That Lady' - The Isley Brothers
'Emerald' - Thin Lizzy Jailbreak
'Better Things' - The Kinks Give The People What They Want
'Jump Into the Fire' - Nilsson Nilsson Schmilsson
'Secret Journey' - The Police Ghost in the Machine
'Fire Lake' - Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band Against the Wind
'Surf Wax America' - Weezer Weezer (Blue Album)
I should of said this earlier, but I heard this song 'Pumped Up Kicks' by Foster the People on the radio the other day and it instantly buried its way into my head. Is the album worth picking up?
If you're asking whether the rest of the album is like Pumped Up Kicks, then the answer is no. They really came up with the alchemy for a perfect summer pop song (weirdly dark as the song actually is). If you're asking whether the rest of the album is good? Then yeah, I like it. A lot more dancey than I thought it would be.
Thank you, Tigers.

** Wasn't so sure of the first single from Florence and the Machine, but this new one is quite good.
*** Don't know what I think about this album yet, might have to make a seperate blog entry about it.
Should make that into a choose your own adventure book.
With just about as many happy endings as a CYOA book.
Still listening to a lot of Colin Stetson. He's got a new EP out, two ten-minute tracks. I really need to make sure this guy gets some of my money.

Notes:
1. I have no idea where I found this reggae track. It's definitely not dancehall, I'm guessing it's from the UK, and that the producer had done something in the Two-Step or Garage scene. I like it though....Decided to look it up, Johan is half of the Swedish duo Radioclit — who are two-thirds of The Very Best (along with Malawian vocalist Esau Mwamwaya). That makes sense.
3. A BPB remix of “I Feel Better”.
5. The recording alias of Scott Hardkiss.
7. See the actual post. HHT at First Ave next Friday. You're invited, but I'm not going to push it that hard this time around.
T. When I first saw these guys [opening for the Meat Puppets in 2007 (no offense Spookymilk)], this was the last song of their set and it was the one for which I most wanted to own their album. Of course, this their obscure cover (of Red Meat via Big Smith via coming from the same town as Big Smith), and it wasn't on the record. They did record a studio version, though, which was released on 7" in 2009 and digitally since then. Having lived with window unit ACs all of my post-collegiate adult life (until this summer, but then the central unit went out, and the window unit was useless), this song really hit the right notes. I'd always wait to put the unit in until it was too hot to not put it in, but by then it was also too hot to put it in. We usually had 16” or 18” Oscillating Fans on stands. But there got to be jealous hate for my wife and children when the fan would oscillate off me and towards them. I assume it was reciprocal.
B. A Bootsy Mixtape.
Stetson features heavily on the new Feist record, which I downloaded last night, but haven't had a chance to listen to.
I'll have to give that a listen. I listened to her first album once, and nothing outside of the counting song grabbed me. Perhaps I expected an alphabet song.

Just found out Napster is being bought out by Rhapsody. They offer the same subscription I'm on for the same price, but I'm worried that their music to go subscription software won't work on my phone or MP3 player. If that happens, I'll be real pissed.
