The local hip-hop scene is quite prolific, with an ever-increasing number of artists. Atmosphere is at the top of my list mostly because of their melodies, accessibility and style. Imagine my surprise to find them performing in London while I was studying abroad there in 2009. Even more fortuitous, the club was 2 blocks from the student housing I was staying in!

A fun show; about 25 SBG College of Law students were in attendance. Slug called me out, in a manner of speaking. I was wearing my TC ball cap and he noted it at least once during the show.

but I enjoyed this clip
My favorite Slug moment is still at the Macklemore/Blueprint show at the 7th Street Entry last winter. Slug and Brother Ali were standing in the back corner about 10 feet from me waiting for the show to begin (Blueprint is on the Rhymesayers label). Someone in the crowd spotted Brother Ali because, really, the guy stands out in a crowd. He walks over and asks Slug to take a picture of him with Brother Ali. Slug, at this point, is wearing a Twins cap and hooded sweatshirt, and he smirks and agrees.
After taking the picture, Slug hands back the camera and wanders off eventually making his way backstage. Once he was gone, I told the person who had taken his picture and he freaked out. I still think in the long run it's a better story to share to have had a picture of you taken by Slug than a picture of you with Slug.
I do enjoy some Atmosphere, but the new album's been kind of hard to get into. Am I missing something? After When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold (still one of my favorite album names ever, and the album which this song comes from), The Family Sign comes off as kind of a disappointment. This clip is very good, though. Props, CoC.
Speaking of the solid local rap scene, I've been enjoying the new Doomtree album quite a bit. They took their sound in a different direction then I would have expected, and I think it paid off.
