in an extremely loose combination of comedy week(s) and your daily WGOM video, here's demetri martin and his guitar (don't worry, i would never actually play one of those guitar comedians).

2004 (sorry for the quality)
i was a fan before, but i never really saw his show. if people dislike this young greek man due to that, i got nothin'.
In case anyone is wondering, the subtitles are Finnish.
dude, check the tags.
I almost never read the tags.
I'm glad that y'all did this so that I could have a place to mention that the WTF podcast is a thing of genius. I've been listening to Mr. Maron's interviews almost nonstop since christmas and can't recommend them enough. I find that through the jokes, and vulgarity, he's able to really get into someone's psyche.
heh, i've mentioned it here before, but that's about when i started listening to WTF as well. i've been tearing through a ton of them recently.
I've been meaning to check this out for a while. Are there any episodes you would recommend to a beginner?
it's a pretty easy show to jump into. he keeps about 50 recent episodes available online, and if you really get into it, you can pay a bit to access all the old episodes. i just went through, threw a bunch of comics i was interested in on the joepod, and (wait for it... wait for it...) pow! i was a fan.
it should be mentioned that there's a number of what could be considered "classic" episodes (mencia, cook, louis CK), but most of those are now behind the paywall.
Wait for it .... wait for it... POW! I can't believe the personal things his guests say. The chris rock episode was pretty great, Demetri Martin was good, and the Mike Berbigula (sp) reversal interview of Marc Maron was outstanding (Buffalo, i'd suggest starting there...)
The Norm McDonald one is mighty intense.
The recent Donald Glover episode is the only one I've ever heard. It was so good I fully intend on getting into the podcast once my computer is fixed.
Demetri's book is pretty entertaining, too.
That fortnight joke absolutely cracked me up.
Agreed. I also thoroughly enjoyed his take on bumper stickers.
Agree on both. Bumper sticker hatin' jokes are nothing new, but I always appreciate a fresh way of telling them.
That and the toasting traffic bit were very Hedbergian. Hedberg-y. Whatever.
I thought the same. Martin is like Hedberg Lite, and that's not a bad thing.
i would disagree with that assessment. they're definitely different styles, but get pigeonholed together as kind-of one-liner comics. i'm sure hedberg got a lot of "steven wright lite" comments himself.
Should really have said Hedberg PG.
Funny, the WTF interview of Demetri addressed the similarities between both Steven Wright and Hedberg.
Good stuff.
Demetri Martin is the kind of person that's so talented it's almost maddening. Has anyone seen his little bell contraption where he's playing the bells with his feet while he's playing a guitar with his hands? He also wrote a 224 word palindrome
currently listening to the standup where he introduces the palindrome. He also composed a poem by rearranging all the words on a Rolling Rock bottle.
Would be more impressive if he didn't misspell "Damnit" and "G--damn" to fit his scheme.
/Yeah, I can't come up with anything 10% as long
Satan, oscillate my metallic sonatas!
The only thing close to a criticism I can make of Demetri is that I've already heard all of his material.
I concur. I think I've heard most of his jokes several times, in different formats.
These jokes might have been used for two different specials that Comedy Central would air* back when I had cable.
They don't work well under repeat listens for me.
I caught a little bit of the show, where he put some new ideas, with varying results.
I think I got bored with him. If you told me he had a new special with all-new material, I might be interested.
*To me both "Air" and "Broadcast" imply being sent over-the-air. What do you call it when a cable network shows something?
All I meant is that I've seen all of his work, not that I find it derivative (or, at least, no more derivative than anything else, since everything's been done).
