I still don't understand how the Mexican League playoffs work. They started with three sets of two teams playing best-of-seven series with each other. The three winners advance to the next round, which makes sense. However, one of the losers also advanced to the next round, so they have a semi-final with four teams.
I have no idea how they determine which losing team advances. The loser that advanced took the playoff series longer than the others, so that might be it. That wouldn't seem like a very workable system, though, because you could easily have two or all three playoff series go the same number of games. I thought possibly they went by regular season records, but that doesn't seem to be the case, either.
I'm sure they must have some system, but I don't know what it is. If someone knows, or if you have some free time and want to look into it, I'd appreciate you telling me.
Hey, I fit this category! I'll check into it a bit, 'cause I'm curious and I'm a little bored.
The wildcard entry in the semis is the team earning the most wins in losing the first round.
Not sure what the tiebreaker for that is, but it might go to runs scored. Sheesh, it's an eight-team league, it would be way easier to just put all the teams into the playoffs and go from there, wouldn't it?
I had thought that might be it, but it still seems like a strange system. Better than the BCS, though.
