The Lakers franchise returns home tonight to find a Wolves team that is not the push over LA has been used to. Here is some facts about this game bullet point style
- The Lakers have beaten the Wolves 15 games in a row.
- The Wolves, with a win, will have a .500 record.
- The Lakers are 1-7 on the road this season.
- There probably isn't a more difficult place to play on the road than the Target Center.
- Josh McRoberts is the third best player on the Lakers. He would be the 10th best player on the Wolves.
- Last season the Wolves allowed 107.7 ppg. So far this season the Wolves have improved this number to 93.5ppg.
- The Lakers have never won a game being played at the same time as the Pro Bowl when being played the week before the Super Bowl in their franchise history (0-1).
- This will be the first match up between JJ Barea and Andrew Bynum since Bynum attempted to murder Barea in last year's playoffs. If you think JJ isn't gunning for Bynum, well, you've got another thing coming.
- Vegas realizes all of these things and as a result have made the Lakers 1.5 underdogs to the giant killing Minnesota Timberwolves.
Today has the possibilty of being a really fun game, you guys.
This will be the first match up between JJ Barea and Andrew Bynum since Bynum attempted to murder Barea in last year's playoffs. If you think JJ isn't gunning for Bynum, well, you've got another thing coming.
I get the feeling Bynum is going to need to cut some weight if he wants to take on Barea. Otherwise, they'll have to fight at catchweight.
I hope Kevin Love scores more than zero points tonight.
Safe to say if that happens, the Wolves will lose.
Upon further review McRoberts is the 4th best player on the Lakers. I was being too disrespesctful towards Kobe.
So we're getting off to one of those starts again.
Derek Fisher is old enough to be Derek Williams' grandfather, right?
Random prediction: Kobe will finish his career as a New Jersey Net.
Today I found out that Kevin Love's middle name is Wesley. I'm not sure what to do with this information.
The Luke to Pek alley opp is not as pretty as the Rubiob to Williams-oop.
hmm. pro bowl, or wolves game?
It looks like the Boss and Cuddy are going at it on twitter. I'd rather watch that than Gasol.
heh. that's pretty good. that main point really flew over cuddy's head...
Got a link for us barbarians not Twittering?
the rumble in the jungle! SBG v. cuddy!
Cuddy agreeing with Souhan. I won't miss that at all.
I bet Joe Mauer loves tennis.
feed?
So what does the back of Ron Artest's jersey say these days? Peace? World Peace?
World Peace.
He should have went with Love.
So should have Memphis.
Kevin Loves makes SCB look less dumb there.
If the Wolves could hit a shot, it would be a huge lead for the hometowners.
Classic Mamba to end the first.
Metta World Love with the and one!
i finally managed to hook the computer up to the flatscreen. awesome.
WTF is that call on Pek!?
I disavow any defense of SCB that I might have made in the past.
So you're saying you weren't impressed with that three attempt?
I actually started that before the three.
Kevin Love would not be half the rebounder he is without SCB.
Moses Malone one year after leading the league in offensive rebounds (again): "I'd like to thank my teammates...for missing so many shots."
He was being too humble. He should have thanked himself more than anyone.
Moses was a career .495 shooter. His career best of offensive rebounds came in a season he shot .540.
And he rebounded every one of his misses that year.
Actually, he missed one on Jan. 12, but he claims the refs missed a foul, so he doesn't count that as a missed rebound.
I'm ready to trade or cut Beasley. He didn't learn anything sitting on the bench watching the team win without him, did he?
Awesome. I finally get to watch a Wolves game. Haven't seen one since the free preview on NBA.com.
PEK!
Ellington is turning into a pumpkin.
Also Troy Murphy looks too much like Steven Malkmus for my liking.
I was thinking he looked like a nihilist.
Twitter is the best re: SCB
Puff, puff, contested midrange jumper. RT @eyedialect: @steventurous his friends must hate smoking weed with him.
Heh. Heh, heh, heh.
I suppose I should watch this to prepare for the upcoming podcast. I'll turn over as soon as the Hoosiers are done laying the smackdown on the Hawkeyes.
Brad Miller!
Is that Brad Miller?
Gah, so I went down to the fridge to grab a beer, opened up, and there staring at me was the pot I used to boil my priming sugar for the black IPA I bottled yesterday. That pot being there means none of its sugary contents were in any of the bottles I capped. I am not happy.
Guys,
We are in the bonus. Stop shooting jumpers and let them foul you.
Sincerely,
GH
Brad Miller knows how to do that- on Kobe, no less.
Miller is just so quick--Kobe can't keep up.
Continuing the discussion of Bill Simmons list, he had Duncan over Kobe. Discuss.
I've got no problem with that.
Jeebus, Webster is so rusty he's at Wes Johnson levels of usefulness.
Webster shoots as much as SCB.
This is some fugly shooting.
Very disappointing so far.
I feel like every time Miller jumps, his knees will come unhinged.
Huge 3 by Love.
Martell!
Rubio + Love = the best.
I will never get tired of Rubio to Love.
You should teach Rubio + Love in class.
It would certainly help them understand what a line of best fit is. 🙂
Bynum stuck his elbow out a bit there as Love went by him- I really dislike that man.
He is lucky JJ isn't playing tonight. Revenge is a dish best served with extra elbows.
You'd think he'd be unlucky that Pekovic is playing. I want vengeance for that crap that Rambis did nothing about, dammit!
Yeah, that dude has made some inexcusable moves in his career. I'm wondering if the NBA will give him a healthy suspension before somebody gets seriously hurt.
IU got over just in time for half-time. At least "The Replacements" are on ESPNClassic.
Is Westerberg narrating a game?
I'm all for classic Replacements.
Lakers shoot 54% in the first half, Wolves shoot only 38% and we're still only down by 2.
and by 2 I mean 8.
I'll never understand math...
Neither will I.
That was half block, half steal by Pek!.
I thought Wes was supposed to be a Mamba stopper.
The second half isn't going to go all that well if the Lakers get 3 points each possession and the Wolves only get 2.
Ah, Ricky Davis. I miss that guy.
I'm gonna start calling that guy "Metta World Colonoscopy". Who's with me?
Brad Miller is tall.
Miller, Love, and Pek all look suspiciously similar, at least physically.
And the beards. I like how they all have beards.
Can he pitch?
That is obviously the correct response to greek's observation. Well done, Stick!
It is painfully obvious that the Wolves have Gardy/Yankee disease.
Ick.
My sentiments exactly.
Also Kobe is a douche, just wanted to get that out there.
Cap'n Kobe?
We can still win this!
Nice effort from the pups.
I think Kobe should keep taking those fade away threes.
That's three shots for the Wolves from about 4 inches.
10 point game!
One thing about Kobe, he keeps shooting.
SCB passed the ball!
Oopio!
WoW.
This is getting fun.
THE MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES ARE GOING TO WIN THIS BASKETBALL GAME.
I like this game a lot more than I did 15 minutes ago.
Kobe is 10-24.
I put on my bootleg Rubio Jersey when the Wolves were down 18.
How many Rubio jerseys do you own? I say put 'em all on!
Too bad the missus is back in Prague already, or we'd be all over that Pacers game package.
Bynum looks like he wants to kill someone.
Hide JJ!
LOL
Good God.
This is some sick, sick sh!t right here!
LOL at "Metta World Peace? let him shoot!"
Wolves killin' it on the glass right now.
damn, ricky...
!!!
!!!!
RRIVGABB!
Hell yes.
TIE GAME!!!!2111!!1!1!1!!1
This team is so much fun to watch. Night and day from last year.
Indeed.
Kobe gave Ricky a bloody nose???
I predict a dark, quiet encounter with Pekovic as he walks to his car after the game.
Everything but the quiet part, I agree with.
I do not like Rubio guarding Gasol.
SCB has had an above average game.
Quick and dirty, but I think that lends it a certain charm.
I love this so much.
BWAHAHAHAHA
Pekovic with 7 offensive rebounds and 2 defensive rebounds. I guess it is sustainable.
I'm going to continue to be shocked by it every game he does it, but it sure seems like his skill set leans that way.
With Love shooting more 3s, that leaves more chances for rebounds for Pek on the offensive end.
32 second chance points.
Crap. I really thought we were going to win this game. 🙁
I completely lost my feed, but I'm going to assume it was lost because of either Ridnour/Beasley or the refs.
They lost the game because they couldn't shoot in the first half.
Right.
But I like my assumption better, because if its the former, it can be removed. (but yeah, I know you guys are right.)
Sure had a chance late. Too bad this was the game that the Lakers remembered that Gasol is a good post player.
once the wolves figure out how to stop dropping down by 15 in the 3rd, this could be a really decent team.
Well they seem to have figured out the "not getting down by 15 in the first quarter" part. Baby steps.
Except they're moving the deficit quarter in the wrong direction.
Well sure, but the next logical quarter to do it in is the fifth, and overtime games don't happen that often. So soon they'll be wining 90%, or so, of their games!
A good way to help with that would be to avoid starting out the game 0/17 shooting.
Kobe is a whiner.
Clean strip imo.
Beasley threw up the Kobe System sign after stealing the ball.
I was wondering what that was.
I know this feels like a moral victory because the Wolves were down 18 and this was the Lakers but Minnesota really should have won this game.
Man, Canis is really putting some hard facts onto this loss on the twitter here.
SSS just bit the Wolves in the butt. They totally outplayed the Lakers but just had a terrible time getting the ball to fall in the hole. It happens in basketball just like in baseball, but it seems like fans don't acknowledge it as much in basketball. That comeback was fun to watch. Too bad they were so far down when they went on the run. It probably took too much out of them.
that game was fun, and disappointing at the same time. Just one of those games where the jump shot didnt fall.
Kobe Bryant is soooo good, but man I just cant like the guy. maybe its because it seems like he drops 50 points on the Wolves every game.
I can get used to 'Pek and Roll' (I bet they ran that play 5 times and 4 times it worked), that dude is so nimble around the offensive rim, but as noted during the game log its amazing he doesnt get more defensive rebounds
but man I just cant like the guy. maybe its because it seems like he drops 50 points on the Wolves every game.
At the risk of telling you what you're thinking, I believe not being able to like Kobe has little to do with how much he scores on the Wolves and more to do with, oh I don't know, something like this.
oof
they were 40-104
If you want Pek to get is offensive boards, they're gonna have to miss a few.
