Minor Details: Games of 4/6

Rochester and New Britain remain unbeaten.  Evan Bigley and Miguel Sano each hit a grand slam.  Jason Marquis pitches for the Rock Cats this afternoon.

ROCHESTER 3, SYRACUSE 1 IN SYRACUSE

Batting starsMatt Carson was 2-for-4 with a double.  Brian Dozier and Joe Benson each went 2-for-3 with a walk.

Pitching stars:  Scott Diamond got the win with 6.1 shutout innings, giving up four hits and a walk.  Anthony Slama got the save, striking out two and giving up one hit in 1.1 scoreless innings.

Opposition stars:  Corey Brown had three hits including a triple.  Tanner Roark allowed just one run in six innings, giving up three runs on three hits.

Key inning:  The eighth.  The Red Wings scored in the top of the inning to make it 2-0.  In the bottom half, the Chiefs scored once and put runners on first and second with two out.  Slama came in to strike out Tyler Moore and end the threat.

NEW BRITAIN 6, RICHMOND 2 IN NEW BRITAIN (GAME 1)

Batting starsEvan Bigley tripled and hit a grand slam, driving in five for the game.  Pedro Florimon singled and doubled.

Pitching starLuis Perdomo allowed just a hit batsman in two shutout innings, striking out four.

Opposition star:  Chris Dominguez had a pair of doubles.

Key inning:  The fifth.  Bigley hit a two-out grand slam to break a 2-2 tie.

NEW BRITAIN 4, RICHMOND 1 IN NEW BRITAIN (GAME 2)

Batting starsChris Herrmann was 2-for-3 with a double, driving in three runs.  Nate Hanson was 2-for-2 with a walk.

Pitching starsLogan Darnell gave up a run on two hits and a walk in five innings to get the win.  David Bromberg and Bobby Lanigan each worked a scoreless inning.

Opposition star:  Gary Brown was 3-for-3.

Key inning:  Again, the fifth.  Herrmann hit a bases-loaded double to break a 1-1 tie.

CHARLOTTE 6, FORT MYERS 2 IN FORT MYERS

Batting starDaniel Santana had three of the four Miracle hits.

Pitching starCaleb Thielbar pitched two shutout innings.  He did not allow a hit or a walk, but hit two batters.

Opposition stars:  Hector Guevera was 2-for-3 with a double and drove in three.  Eliazer Suero got the win with four shutout innings of relief, striking out five.

Key inning:  The seventh.  Bruce Pugh came into a 2-2 tie game and allowed four runs on four hits, an error, and a wild pitch.

BELOIT 6, PEORIA 1 IN BELOIT

Batting starsTyler Grimes was 2-for-4 with a double.  Miguel Sano hit a grand slam.

Pitching starsSteven Gruver gave up a run on five hits in six innings while striking out five.  Michael Tonkin struck out four in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

Opposition star:  Patrick Francescon struck out nine in 4.2 innings, giving up a run on two hits.

Key inning:  The seventh.  With the score tied at one, the Snappers scored five.  The inning was capped by Sano’s rally-killing grand slam.

  1. heading 2 might be better than heading 1. Word to the Padre: do you see what sean did with the formatting? He used the <h1> tag. You can vary the header size from one (largest) to six (or that's what I know about anyway)

      1. I did it, but I really didn't know what I was doing. Thanks for the info. Like all of us, it's a work in progress.
