Minor Details: Games of 4/18

Twins affiliates go 1-2.  Both losses were pitchers' duels.  The Rock Cats end a seven game winning streak.

SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 2, ROCHESTER 0 IN ROCHESTER (YANKEES HOME GAME)

Batting starMatt Carson was 1-for-3 with a double.  The Red Wings had two hits.

Pitching starCole DeVries worked seven innings, striking out seven while giving up two runs on six hits and no walks.

Opposition stars:  Dewayne Wise was 2-for-3 with a double.  Steve Pearce was 2-for-3 and drove in both runs.  D. J. Mitchell struck out seven in eight shutout innings, giving up two hits and one walk.

Key inning:  The sixth.  In a scoreless tie, the Yankees had a runner on first with two out.  Wise doubled on a ball that Ben Revere just missed catching with a diving attempt.  The double put runners on second and third and Pearce singled both runners home.

PORTLAND 2, NEW BRITAIN 1 IN PORTLAND

Batting starAaron Hicks was 1-for-3 with a walk.  The Rock Cats had three hits.

Pitching starSteve Hirschfeld struck out seven in seven shutout innings, giving up three hits and no walks.

Opposition stars:  Chris Hernandez struck out eight in 5.2 innings, giving up an unearned run on three hits and a walk.  Charle Rosario struck out four in 3.1 shutout innings, allowing only a walk.

Key inning:  The ninth.  The Rock Cats led 1-0 when Luis Perdomo came in to close the game.  He walked the first two batters, then surrendered a double to Oscar Tejeda to tie the score.  An intentional walk loaded the bases.  Ronald Bermudez then singled to bring in the winning run.

Other:  The loss snapped a seven game winning streak for New Britain.

BELOIT 6, KANE COUNTY 3 IN BELOIT

Batting starsEddie Rosario was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Adam Bryant was 2-for-4 with a double and scored twice.

Pitching starSteven Gruver gave up two runs on nine hits and a walk in six innings.

Opposition stars:  Daniel Mateo was 3-for-5 with a double.  Justin Trapp was 2-for-5 with a double and a triple.

Key inning:  The seventh.  In the top of the inning, the Cougars scored to trail by only a run, 4-3.  In the bottom of the inning, doubles by Jairo Rodriguez and Bryant each doubled and Rosario singled to put the Snappers up 6-3.

    1. Thanks. I think I finally hit on something that's both writer-friendly and reader-friendly. LTEs have been up, which I take as an indication that more people are reading this way.

      1. Ditto on the reading everyday. I like the key inning; it's simpler than a complete game summary but still informative.
