NEW BRITAIN 4, NEW HAMPSHIRE 1 IN NEW BRITAIN
Batting stars: Aaron Hicks was 2-for-3 with a triple and a walk. Chris Herrmann was 2-for-5 with two doubles. Pedro Florimon was 2-for-4 with a double.
Pitching stars: Andrew Albers struck out seven in seven innings, giving up a run on five hits and no walks. Bobby Lanigan pitched two shutout innings, giving up on hit and striking out two.
Opposition star: Matt Wright worked two shutout innings, allowing a hit and two walks while striking out two.
Key inning: The fourth. Leading 1-0, Hicks led off the inning with a triple and scored on a ground out. Florimon then doubled and scored on a Nate Hanson single to give the Rock Cats a 3-0 lead.
Other: The win moved the Rock Cats into first place.
FORT MYERS 8, BRADENTON 6 IN BRADENTON (10 INNINGS)
Batting stars: Daniel Santana was 3-for-5 with a triple. Josmil Pinto was 3-for-5. Levi Michael was 2-for-4 with a home run, driving in three.
Pitching stars: Ricky Bowen worked two perfect innings. Caleb Thielbar struck out six in three shutout innings, allowing only a walk.
Opposition stars: Gift Ngoepe was 2-for-5. Porfirio Lopez pitched three shutout innings.
Key inning: The eighth. Down 6-1, the Miracle scored three times to put themselves back in the game. Michael Gonzales opened the inning with a walk, followed by singles from Santana and Michael to plate the first run. Following a double play, Pinto singled in a second run and Oswaldo Arcia doubled. An error scored the third run of the inning. Fort Myers went on to score two in the ninth and two in the tenth.
SOUTH BEND 8, BELOIT 5 IN SOUTH BEND
Batting stars: Wang-wei Lin was 2-for-2 and walked twice. Eddie Rosario was 0-for-1 but walked three times. The Snappers drew eight walks but had only five hits.
Pitching star: Matthew Tomshaw pitched 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing only a walk.
Opposition stars: Bobby Stone was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run. Marc Bourgeois hit a grand slam.
Key inning: The seventh. Trailing 2-1, the Silver Hawks put together a seven-run inning. They hit two home runs (including the rally-killing grand slam), had two singles, and were aided by a walk and two hit batsmen. All the runs were scored off starter Matthew Summers.
