Game 21: Twins vs. Royals

This is a game log. It is a place for you to share concise, often humorous thoughts while you watch the Twins lose.

It is customary for each game log to have an introduction, wherein that log's author discusses various things about the team. I am currently suffering from a profound lack of motivation in this regard. Therefore, while the log will still be created, you are going to have to pretend that I said something profound like "Oh, that Joe Mauer guy is pretty good, right?" or "This is all Casilla's fault".

Jason Marquis - (1-0, 7.15 ERA, 6.11 FIP, 3.75 xFIP) will pitch for the Twins.
Bruce Chen - (0-2, 2.52 ERA, 3.61 FIP, 3.92 xFIP) will pitch for the Royals.

Enjoy.

  1. OK, here's your hopeful stats of the day for the Twins. They're pitchers have the lowest LOB% in all of baseball and the second highest HR/FB ratio in all of baseball despite playing half their games in a supposedly pitcher-friendly ballpark. If you believe in regressing to the mean, then the Twins are overdue for some serious regressing in the positive direction.

    1. The Twins xFIP is 4.28, which is 4% worse than league average. That would put the Twins at about 85 runs given up instead of 116.

      1. How would that affect their Pythagorean record? My eye test says this team should've won about 3-4 other games this year, and that's closer to their ability than a .250 winning record.

        1. Baseball Prospectus has their expected winning percentage* at .440, which would be about a 9-11 record.

*Calculated exclusive of schedule and the Twins schedule has been very tough.

  2. Tom Kelly just spent the last 20 minutes during the rain delay on the radio with Attebury (sp?) being all sorts of GOML!!!!! towards the minor league system over the past few years. It was pretty fantastic just how surly and angry he was about the stuff he's seen in the minors and in spring training. It was extraordinarily refreshing to hear.

      1. Parmelee likes his parmesan while Atteberry likes berry fruits. I can't help you if you forget "lee" or "Atte" though.
