SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 2, ROCHESTER 1 IN ROCHESTER (YANKEES HOME GAME)
Batting star: Brian Dozier was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Pitching stars: Cole DeVries gave up two runs on six hits and no walks in 6.1 innings. Deolis Guerra struck out three in 1.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits.
Opposition stars: Steve Pearce was 2-for-4 with a home run. Manny Banuelos struck out five in 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing two hits. Cody Eppley worked two shutout innings.
Key inning: The seventh. With the score tied at one, Francisco Cervelli led off with a single. He was still on first with two out, but Doug Bernier doubled to score him with the go-ahead run. The Red Wings did not get another man on base.
Other: Rochester has lost eight straight. Ray Chang has a nine game hitting streak. DeVries has allowed two or fewer runs in each of his last four starts and has not won any of them.
NEW BRITAIN 5, HARRISBURG 4 IN HARRISBURG
Batting stars: Chris Colabello was 2-for-5 with a three-run homer, his fifth. Pedro Florimon was 2-for-4 with a double. Wilkin Ramirez was 2-for-5 with a double.
Pitching stars: Bobby Lanigan worked 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up three hits. Luis Perdomo went 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit.
Opposition stars: Tim Pahuta was 2-for-4 with a home run. Chris Rahl and Sandy Leon each homered.
Key inning: The ninth. In a 4-4 tie, Ramirez singled with one out. He took second on a wild pitch and scored on Evan Bigley’s two-out single.
Other: B. J. Hermsen and Caleb Thielbar have been promoted from Fort Myers to New Brtiain.
FORT MYERS 2, PALM BEACH 1 IN PALM BEACH (11 INNINGS)
Batting stars: Daniel Rohlfing was 1-for-4 with a double, a walk, and an RBI. Andy Leer was 1-for-4 with a double and scored once.
Pitching stars: Pat Dean gave up one run on seven hits and two walks in seven innings. Bruce Pugh worked three scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks.
Opposition stars: Vance Albitz was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Richard Castillo struck out six in six innings, giving up one run on two hits and three walks. Dean Kiekhefer threw three shutout innings.
Key inning: The eleventh. With the score tied at one, Daniel Ortiz and Rohlfing each walked and Oswaldo Arcia delivered an RBI single. The Cardinals rallied to put runners on first and second with one out and second and third with two out, but Cole Nelson struck out Alan Ahmady to end the game.
Other: Palm Beach stranded fourteen base runners. Fort Myers broke a five game losing streak.
BELOIT 6, CEDAR RAPIDS 5 IN CEDAR RAPIDS
Batting stars: Miguel Sano was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two. Rory Rhodes was 2-for-4 with a home run, his first. Adam Bryant was 2-for-5 with a double and drove in two.
Pitching star: Corey Williams worked two shutout innings, allowing only a walk.
Opposition stars: Wendell Soto was 2-for-2 with a double and a walk. Andy Workman was 2-for-4 with a double. Michael Johnson struck out three in 2.1 scoreless innings.
Key inning: The eighth. The Kernels had just tied the score at five in the seventh. Rhodes led off the eighth with a home run to give the Snappers a lead they never relinquished.
Other: The two teams combined for seven errors, leading to a total of seven unearned runs.
