The highest two game total for the Twins is 17, and that's non-consecutive. The highest consecutive game total is 16, from games #s 5 & 6. Since Friday the 27th, the Twins have scored 24 runs.
I'm a little confused about why the Twins picked up Klete and then Komatsu when Darin Mastroianni has been playing so well down in AAA- I thought the idea when they picked him up was for him to be the fourth/emergency outfielder, wasn't it?
Komatsu is likely the better player. Younger, better BB:SO ratio, and a bit more power. I can't explain Clete besides the Twins wanting to finally acquire him after drafting him and failing to sign.
I don't get Clete Thomas in Rochester, either. He's really the fourth outfielder there, behind Mastroianni, Ben Revere, and Matt Carson. When Dinkelman comes off the disabled list, he'll be the fifth outfielder. The only thing I can think is that they need a reserve outfielder there for the time being and they'd rather it not be somebody who'll actually benefit from regular playing time.
From the Twins' standpoint and the Red Wings' standpoint, I can understand using Thomas as a bench outfielder in Rochester. He could be a useful AAA bench player and not everyone is in AAA to develop. From Thomas' standpoint, I don't see how it's going to help him much or be terribly fulfilling, but you never know.
He's getting paid to play baseball- I think that would be worth it to most guys in their mid-twenties, right?
does anyone here really think that Mastroianni is anything more than a replacement Revere-level player in a best-case scenario? He may be hitting 371/405/457 in all of 18 games at Rochester, but he was only "hitting" 143/231/171 in 9 games at New Britain when he was promoted. In 1147 PA at AA his slash line is 280/372/368 with 176:142 K:BB.
He has no power, but walks a lot and steals some bases.
