It's Friday already? Crud. Boss is back from a business trip on Monday and I estimate that I've got between 2000 lbs and 1000 kg of manure to work on before he's back. Wonder what my soundtrack will be... Wonder what your soundtrack will be. (Share it.)

Its Friday and I'm staring at a day filled with writing reports and filling out a personality survey. I'm going to need something to get me through this. I also just got an iPod, so lets see what this thing will throw at me today:
01. Moonsorrow - "Jaasta Syntynyt/Varjojen Virta", Viides Luku
02. Halford - "Locked and Loaded", Resurrection
03. Black Label Society - "Superterrorizer", Stronger Than Death
04. Epica "Seif al Din", We Will Take You With Us
05. Mercyful Fate - "Night of the Unborn", Don't Break the Oath
06. Immortal - "Noctambulant", Blizzard Beasts
07. 3 Inches of Blood - "Revenge is a Vulture", Advance and Vanquish
08. Testament - "New Eyes of Old", Demonic
09. Blind Guardian - "Straight Through the Mirror", A Twist in the Myth
10. Type O Negative - "Kill All the White People", Bloody Kisses
I found it interesting when Zune pulled up three straight tracks with a decidedly astronomical feel to them. Then I found it less interesting when I noticed that shuffle had been disabled and it was playing tracks in alphabetical order, so I eventually turned shuffle back on, but continued with the theme:
“Alien Hip Hop” – Planet X, Quantum
“Alien Earth” – Synergy, The Jupiter Effect
“All About Satellites and Spaceships” – Seven Percent Solution, All About Satellites and Spaceships
“All Around the World or Myth of Fingerprints” – Paul Simon, Graceland
“All of the Above: Full Moon Rising/October Winds/Camouflaged in Blue/Half Alive/Undying Love/Full Moon Rising Reprise” – Transatlantic, SMPTe
“Edge of the World” – John Scott, Greystoke: Legend of Tarzan soundtrack
“Oh Brother” – James Taylor, New Moon Shine
“The Great Gig in the Sky” – Pink Floyd, The Dark Side of the Moon
“Under the Moon” – Camel, Harbour of Tears
“Ride of Your Life” – Rick Wakeman, Return to the Centre of the Earth
Ooh, themed lists! We should do more of this.
I do one every week.
dude, your whole library is a theme!
Indubitably.
I heard that in my head spoken in Cookie Monster's voice.

Great song. That video creeped me out.
That was a really interesting take on the song, made even more interesting since it's B"P"B himself.
1. Eric Copeland “Heavy Afternoon Buzz”* Catsup Plate Lathe Cut 12"
2. Elvis Presley “Are You Lonesome To-night?” 30 #1 Hits
3. Koko Taylor “Don't Mess with the Messer” Koko Taylor
4. Matt Sweeney & Bonnie “Prince” Billy “Death in the Sea” Superwolf
5. Oval “Cross Sellint” 94diskont
6. Three Trapped Tigers* “10” EP3
7. Current 93* “Vauvauvau (Black Ships in the Harbor)” Black Ships Ate the Sky
8. Guy J & Miriam Vega “No Under But You” DJ Kicks: Photek
9. Soundgarden* “The Day I Tried to Live” Superunknown
T. Finley Quaye “Sunday Shining”* Maverick A Strike
E. Black Dice “Smiling Off (Luomo Remix)”* Smiling Off
Notes:
1. Eric Copeland of Black Dice. 10 minutes of buzzy drones. Apparently this was limited to 50 copies (I don't know what lathe-cut even means), so I just found an illicit copy on the internet. (Eric Copeland could have more of my money if he would collect the music he's released only on vinyl onto one or two CDs.)
6. Daneeka's Ghost tipped me to them. Not entirely convinced, though.
7. DG and Nibbish, have you ever listened to C93? It's weird stuff that might be up your alleys, might not though. If so, I'd start with this album.
9. My iPod has been loving Soundgarden lately. I swear I've heard "Room a Thousand Years Wide" like 5 times over the past week while on shuffle.
T. Cover of Bob Marley and the Wailers' "Sun Is Shining" by Tricky's cousin. He had previously covered the song as a vocalist on A Guy Called Gerald's "Finley's Rainbow". This album is a nice update of reggae for the indie-rock crowd, but I never followed anything else he did. Maybe I should fix that.
E. Black Dice and Sasu Ripatti? I've never given this a close listen, but I'd've expected something better.
"...shop at Macy's, and love me to-night..."

(I don't know what lathe-cut even means)
Basically some dude cut the album by hand. I guess people do this for tiny vinyl runs since they can get just a handful of copies cut versus the minimums needed for pressing.
My lifelong dream has always been to put out at least one piece of music on vinyl, but here I am at 30 without that happening. This dream seems destined to continue to fade.
But The-Dream is still going strong!
I've given up on enough dreams only to have have them come true that I'm going to continue giving up until I die.

8. "Pink Panther Theme" - The Ventures - The Fabulous Ventures
9. "Wonder" - Natalie Merchant - Tigerlily
10. "Bixby Canyon Bridge" - Death Cab For Cutie - Transcendentalism
B "The Female Of The Species" - Space - Spiders
1. In the past few years this song, and specifically this version, has become one of my favorites. It probably cracks a top 25 list.
6. This song cracks a top 5 favorite songs list. It's short for a classical piece, but it is hauntingly beautiful. If you've never heard it, go find a version. Ugh. Subtle and powerful at the same time.
7. My nomination for "song of the summer." Rhubarb Runner put it up here the other day, and I'd had a link up a while back before that to. Good stuff.
9. Seriously? How does Tigerlily keep appearing on these lists? I have like 3 of her songs in my library, out of thousands, and they keep coming up. I don't dislike them, it's just odd.
10. I don't love a lot of Death Cab (it all feels to sanctimoniously anti-establishment), but I enjoy the heck out of this one.
Bonus: I know this song from the Austin Powers soundtrack, which I accidentally stole from my uncle a long, long time ago. I still have it.
Nope, that track isn't mine.
I still get a kick out of DC4C ever since Hipster Hitler's cartoon.
Huh. Well someone put it up. And I don't care to do the work to figure out who, so by executive fiat we're gonna continue to say it was you.
Looks like it was strat
Sorry Strat. Or Rhu? Whoever I'm supposed to be sorry to, go with that.
We're fighting now.
You and me? Or you and Rhu? Please say the later.
I'm with
NeilStrat.oh, yeah, sorry, that reference predates you.
That one has some serious staying power.
You've insulted my honor. I demand satisfaction.
Well, if you try really hard you just may find that you get what you need.
That's some funny stuff. Man do I love make fun of
myselfhipsters.I've got 2 kids and gut. I'm not sure if I'm doing it before it's cool or ironically, but I know I'm definitely ahead of the hipster curve on that one, which makes me as hipster as can be.
You wanna freak out? Look at the tracks you had notes on, then look at the tracks I had notes on.
This has officially reached an awesome level of creepy.
I have a secretary named Philosopher, do you have a secretary named AMR?
No.
He's an administrative assistant.
I don't have my music with me, but I've been listening to the song "Last Day Of Magic" by the Kills practically nonstop lately so you can consider that my entire list.

edit: ugh I can never figure out how to embed things in this new wordpress.
edit II: got your back - mags
#3 on my list too! Go team!
It took me a while, but I got way into The Kills. Midnight Boom and Keep on Your Mean Side are soooo good.
I'm still not there, but that song does it for me. I didn't like much of The Dead Weather's output, so I'm a bit gun-shy about trying out more of Alison Mosshart's stuff.
It's such a good song. But sometimes it worries me that so many of my favorite songs are break-up songs.
internet is out at the office so I don't know what I've been listening to, but I have been listening to the entire works of The Tallest Man on Earth. He just released a new album this week. Not quite as good as The Wild Hunt.
And we're back up and running:
Foo Fighters – Let It Die
The Killers – Somebody Told Me
Modest Mouse – We've Got Everything
Vampire Weekend – A-Punk
The Fratellis – Chelsea Dagger
Silversun Pickups – Panic Switch
Death Cab for Cutie – Cath
Weezer – Say It Ain't So
The Smashing Pumpkins – 1979
Muse – Knights of Cydonia
My copy of Costello Music is iTunes protected m4a, so I can't listen to the Fratellis on my Ubuntu laptop. They were a sad collateral casualty of the conversion.
And that's why I don't use iTunes...or anything apple for that matter.
I rip to mp3 and when I purchase things from iTunes (rarely), I convert them to mp3 as well.
My link to all things conversion, btw...

I feel the hatred towards Coldplay has gotten out of hand. Rush of Blood to the Head is a very good album.
I'm not a big fan, but there are a few Coldplay tracks in my library. Runner daughter is teh hipster h8r, though.
I'm not a big fan, but there are a few Coldplay tracks in my library
same here.
I think their early stuff was pretty boring, but a lot of their newer stuff is much more layered and is really pretty good music. At least, the stuff I hear. I don't seek them out, but when I come across them, I don't hate 'em.
Phil, a while back you were looking for summer songs', well so far my 'summer song' is 'Everybody Talks' by Neon Trees.
Summer music? !!!!111one1111!!!
