Minor Details: Games of 6/14

ROCHESTER 8, LOUISVILLE 6 IN LOUISVILLE

Batting starsDanny Valencia was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two walks, driving in three.  Matt Carson was 3-for-5.  Clete Thomas was 2-for-5 with a home run, his third.

Pitching starsCasey Fien worked two shutout innings, giving up two hits and walking two.  Kyle Waldrop allowed two hits in 1.2 scoreless innings.

Opposition stars:  Daniel Dorn was 3-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring three times.  Dioner Navarro was 3-for-4.  Corky Miller was 2-for-2 with a home run and two walks.

Key inning:  The ninth.  With the score tied at six, Valencia doubled with one out and scored on a single by CarsonCarson eventually scored on a single by Thomas for an insurance run.

AKRON 3, NEW BRITAIN 2 IN NEW BRITAIN (12 INNINGS)

Batting starsNathan Hanson was 5-for-6 with a double and a triple.  Matt Rizzotti was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Deibinson Romero was 2-for-4.

Pitching starsBrett Jacobson gave up two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out six in 5.1 innings.  Bobby Lanigan allowed two hits in 2.2 scoreless innings.  Bruce Pugh struck out three and gave up only two walks in two shutout innings.

Opposition stars:  Nick Weglarz hit a two run homer.  Loek Van Mil struck out two in 2.1 perfect innings.  Kyle Landis pitched two shutout innings.

Key inning:  The twelfth.  Tied at two, Ben Copeland singled, stole second, and scored on a Roberto Perez single to give the Aeros a 3-2 lead.  In the bottom of the inning, Hanson singled and took second on a wild pitch with one out, but the next two batters were retired to end the game.

Other:  The Rock Cats had fourteen hits, but stranded eleven and went 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position.

BRADENTON 6, FORT MYERS 0 IN FORT MYERS

Batting starDaniel Ortiz was 3-for-4 with a double.  The Miracle had only one other hit.

Pitching starRicky Bowen allowed two hits and a walk in 2.2 scoreless innings.

Opposition stars:  Justin Howard was 2-for-4 with a triple.  Alex Dickerson was 2-for-4 with a double.  Gerrit Cole struck out seven in five innings, giving up three hits and two walks.

Key inning:  The sixth.  Leading 3-0, the Marauders scored three times to put the game away.  Two singles, a Dan Grovatt double, and another single produced the runs.

BELOIT 5, PEORIA 3 IN BELOIT

Batting starJaDamion Williams was 2-for-3 with a double.  Adam Bryant hit a two run homer and drove in three for the game.

Pitching starsTim Atherton struck out four in two shutout innings, allowing one hit.  Michael Tonkin struck out the side in the ninth.

Opposition star:  Javier Baez hit a two run homer.

Key inning:  The eighth.  In a 3-3 tie, a pair of errors put Snapper runners on second and third with no one out.  Following a pop up and an intentional walk, Bryant hit a sacrifice fly to put Beloit ahead and Jonathan Goncalves singled in an insurance run.

Other:  The win clinched a first half playoff spot for the Snappers…Remember to vote for Snappy D. Turtle in the final four of Mascot Mania!

DSL DIAMONDBACKS 4, TWINS 3 AT TWINS

Batting starErnesto Ciprian was 2-for-3 with a walk.

Pitching star:  Starter Fernando Romero struck out three in four shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks.

Opposition stars:  Raul Samboy was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.  Raul Garcia was 2-for-5.  Jose Fermin allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks while striking out five in six innings.

Key inning:  The ninth.  Trailing 4-2, the Twins opened the inning with two singles and a bunt, putting runners on second and third with one out.  An error cut the margin to 4-3.  Francis Mateo then flied out, and Adonis Pacheco was doubled off second to end the game.

Other:  The Twins have now lost four in a row.
