ROCHESTER 4, CHARLOTTE 2 IN ROCHESTER
Batting star: J. R. Towles was 2-for-3.
Pitching star: Cole DeVries gave up two runs on six hits and two walks in eight innings.
Opposition stars: Conor Jackson was 2-for-4 with a double. Anthony Carter threw two shutout innings.
Key inning: The fifth. The score was tied at one. Clete Thomas doubled and scored on a single by Towles. A hit batsman and a force out put runners on first and third with two out. A passed ball and an error brought in two more runs to make the score 4-1.
Other: Matt Maloney was placed on the disabled list with a strained left elbow. Luis Perdomo has been promoted from New Britain to Rochester.
NEW BRITAIN 6, RICHMOND 2 IN RICHMOND (7 ½ INNINGS—RAIN)
Batting stars: Evan Bigley was 2-for-4 with a three run homer, his tenth. Estarlin De Los Santos was 2-for-4 with a double. Oswaldo Arcia was 2-for-5 with a double.
Pitching star: Starter Brett Jacobson pitched 4.1 shutout innings despite walking seven and allowing three hits.
Opposition stars: Gary Brown and Tommy Joseph were each 2-for-3 with a double.
Key inning: The third. In a scoreless tie, Shawn Roof singled and scored on Arcia’s double. Chris Colabello walked and Bigley followed with a three run homer to put the Rock Cats up 4-0.
Other: Evan Bigley was named Eastern League Player of the Week.
TAMPA 9, FORT MYERS 3 IN FORT MYERS (GAME 1)
Batting star: Daniel Ortiz was 2-for-4.
Pitching star: Michael Tonkin struck out two in one inning, giving up neither a hit nor a walk. Miguel Munoz allowed one hit in a scoreless inning.
Opposition stars: Neil Medchill was 3-for-5 with a double and a home run. Ramon Flores was 3-for-5. Rob Segedin was 2-for-4 with a home run and a walk, scoring three times.
Key inning: The third. Already leading 2-0, the Yankees scored four times. They opened the inning with three singles, which scored one. With one out, Kyle Roller hit a three run homer to make it late early.
TAMPA AT FORT MYERS (GAME 2)
Rained out. Will be made up as part of a doubleheader today.
BELOIT 4, KANE COUNTY 2 IN KANE COUNTY
Batting star: Drew Leachman was 2-for-4.
Pitching star: Jason Wheeler gave up two unearned runs on four hits and two walks in five innings. Tim Atherton struck out three in 2.1 scoreless innings, walking three but allowing only one hit.
Opposition stars: Cody Fassold and Malcom Culver each threw two shutout innings.
Key inning: The fourth. The score was tied at two. Steven Liddle was hit by a pitch, took second on a wild pitch, and advanced to third on a fly out. He then scored on a single by Adam Bryant, who in turn scored on a double by Tyler Grimes to put the Snappers up 4-2.
Other: Beloit won despite allowing five walks and making three errors.
ELIZABETHTON 9, BRISTOL 1 IN ELIZABETHTON
Batting stars: Travis Harrison was 3-for-4. Michael Quesada was 2-for-4 and drove in four. Rory Rhodes was 2-for-3 and walked twice.
Pitching stars: Ricardo Arevalo struck out seven in 4.1 innings, giving up an unearned run on five hits and two walks. Tyler Herr struck out four in 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing two hits.
Opposition stars: Courtney Hawkins was 3-for-5. Juan Ramirez was 2-for-3 with a walk. Jose Bautista struck out six in 4.2 innings, giving up one hit and three walks.
Key inning: The seventh. Leading 4-1, the Twins scored five runs. A hit batsman, three walks, and four wild pitches scored two runs and put runners on first and second. After a pitching change, one man was retired, but four consecutive singles plated three more runs.
Other: The pitcher for Bristol was Kevin Moran. In two outings, he has walked six and has yet to retire a batter. It is to be hoped that he will not follow Shooter Hunt’s career path.
GCL ORIOLES AT TWINS

DSL WHITE SOX 9, TWINS 1 AT WHITE SOX
Batting star: Rafael P. Valera was 2-for-2.
Pitching star: Jose Abreu threw three shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk.
Opposition stars: Sandy Guerrero was 2-for-3 with a triple and a walk. Maurizo Buda was 2-for-4. Darwin Matos struck out four in four shutout innings, allowing two hits and walking two.
Key inning: The fourth. In a scoreless tie, the White Sox struck for four. Singles were bookends to four walks to produce the runs.
