    1. The Doubler sounds more like a Mickey D's character.

Enjoy the game, kids. I'm actually gonna work today.

      1. If I remember my Cybermetrics lesson from last night, it doesn't count as a Quality Start.

      2. Let's just say I am looking forward to the day that the Twins lineup faces Blackburn.

  1. On the White Sox feed, a conversation about how Gardy called AJ the toughest catcher he had ever seen.

    I almost puked.

  2. I didn't think it was possible but Man-boat is managing to suck even more than Blackbum.

    1. Fun with SSS: Robertson has a career ERA of 10.8, K rate of 21.6, BB rate of 0, so a career K/BB ratio of 4/0, and a career BABIP of .800. Also, four ground balls and zero fly balls. His xFIP must be tiny.

        1. He's also the first Twin to strike out three batters in his first inning of pitching, according to Elias. No surprise there, I guess.

    1. I'm OK with making this the unofficial Spain-Portugal thread if everyone else is. Blackburn games suck out my will to watch the Twins.

      1. I suppose since we're talkinga bout Englishmen talking about football, I should have said they're "whinging" about the scheduling.

  3. When asked about the game on today's post-game show, Dazzle had nothing to say. That may be his most intelligent commentary in years.

  4. Atteberry points out that today's 21 hits allowed is the high this season, topping the previous 18 hits allowed in a game. Both games started by Blackburn.

  5. Jeff A alert!

#MNTwins option RHP Jeff Manship from AAA Rochester, recall RHP Kyle Waldrop.

    1. Heard that on the post-game show. Waldrop has pitched pretty well on his rehab assignment (obviously, small sample size). I have hopes that he can help. Not sure about expectations, but hopes.

    1. I saw a suggestion the other day that maybe they should do the penalty shootout before extra time. It seems like it might work. Usually in extra time it seems like one of the two teams is more or less bunkering anyway, but the other team can't really push 100% because they'd also rather be tied than allow a goal. By doing the PKs first, then at least one of the two teams would really be forced to attack. The penalty shootout would also give the players (and the refs) a chance to rest before the extra time. It wouldn't be perfect, but it seems like it might be a slight improvement.

      1. (Also, you often hear the phrase "this game needs a goal" when the game is tied, and this would effectively give one team a goal after 90 minutes.)

  6. Blackie got that sinkerball sinkin good

Over his last 23 starts dating back to June of 2011, Nick Blackburn has a 7.40 ERA in 110 2/3 IP with 165 hits and 20 HRs allowed. #MNTwins

    1. From the PiPress:

He is 21-27 with a 5.42 ERA since the start of 2010, when he signed a four-year, $14 million contract. Blackburn also happens to be the only starter signed for 2013.

  7. Well, it was a tough day for the pitching staff, but that's baseball. We'll just have to settle for 118-44!
