      1. Wish it would work on this song, but they don't really use the title in the lyrics:

Much like the WGOM-beloved THS, Minnesota expats. Former "Hockey Night in America" members.

  1. Three called out on strikes in one inning? Has Gardy been thrown out yet?

  2. Apparently the Tigers announcers have never seen a pitcher cruise the first time through the order before getting hit hard.

  3. The Twins left two runners on base in one inning? They obviously were unclutch. LOBs obviously prove that you have a bad offense.

      1. Another stat (GIDP) that proves you have a bad offense. Never mind that you have to actually get runners on base to GIDP.

    1. Heh, well with a roster full of proven closers and you need a dude who can set them up.

      1. I think we all know what happens when you bring in closers in a non-save situation. More setup men!

            1. Valencia had like a .676 OPS at the all-star break last year. I think Plouffe's is a little higher than that.

            1. Oh, he's playing out of his head. Still, any time Punto was on a hot streak, I chose to enjoy the hell out of them. I mean, why not?

              1. I guess my reasoning is basically because I'm not sure many people think he's playing out of his head... it feels like people believe this is the real Ploufffe. The lion in me rejects that.

                1. I guarantee that in this place, you're among people who know. Well, socal might say it's for real, but keeping everyone a little optimistic is just what socal does.

                  1. Yeah, that's a general perception, not a WGOM perception. I kind of figured that went without saying.

                    1. Pretty sure he'll keep it up. My picking him up only seems to have angered him.

                2. I can't believe anyone believes that Plouffe is going to slug .700+ the rest of the season. I'm not saying he's "for real" yet because this is almost coming out of nowhere (although he put up pretty big numbers in half a season at AAA last year). What gets me excited is I can't think of anyone that has played for the Twins that has gone on this extended of a power binge and weren't at least a better than average hitter. Even during Delmon's best season and his best months of that season, he didn't hit more than nine homers in any two-month period, let alone 11 in one month. Plouffe will undoubtedly cool off and go through a period where he struggles. How quickly he shrugs it off and how low he goes will give us a better idea of his staying power. As it is, since the start of 2011, he's batting .263/.333/.513 with 41 homers in 765 PAs between AAA and the majors. He also has a career 106 OPS+. That's not bad for a third baseman.

  4. So, are we sending them? Rhu, I need a ruling on the double-steal attempt here.

  5. Fister's inexplicable change

    inexplicable change

    inexplicable

That word doesn't mean what you think it means, Mr. Smalley.

  6. Tigers PBP: "I've been surprised, over the course of the season, how few players have challenged Cabrera by laying down bunts over there."

Color: "Well, I think that other teams might be seeing what I'm seeing, that Cabrera is pretty good over there and they'd probably just be bunting themselves into outs."

Side note: I saw two young kids with their mom today, wearing Cabrera jerseys, and I just got angry. I guess she might not know about Cabrera's history or maybe doesn't care, but of all players...ugh.

        1. And Dombrowski would throw in a few more kicks while she's down.

Sorry, I never pass up an opportunity to point out how rotten a person Dombrowski is for actually driving Cabrerra from the jail to the game.

  7. Dustin Morse ‏@Twins_morsecode
Joe Mauer, who entered play tonight leading the A.L. with a .414 OBP, has already reached base 3 times tonight. #MNTwins

    waste. of. money.

  8. Should have pinch-hit for Morneau against the lefty.

It hurt me a little to type that.

  9. Listening to the Detroit feed reminds me of all the hours I spent playing High Heat Baseball 2002.

  10. to me, it seems like Willingham is going to miss 80% of the balls hit his way. somehow, he catches most of them.

      1. Im not talking about route running, but its hard to describe. It just looks like Willingham shields his body from the lights or something and I think the ball is going to fall in for a single, but then the ball ends up in his glove.

  11. you are a pretty terrible hitter if you are striking out against Alex Burnett (who I like)

  12. Can I get a pinch hitter for tomorrow night's game log?

  13. And dick wins the prize for saying that Perkins rough outing was due to the Twins having a large lead when he came in.

  14. One of the radio guys figured off-the-cuff that Joe Mauer has to be among the best hitters in baseball with two strikes. His splits on BR have him at .253/.306/.354 for his career. I can't figure out how to see the active leaders. Anyone know how to find out where Joe ranks either for his career or for 2012 numbers (.261/.325/.366)?

    1. I've been searching it out a bit... I can find it based on wOBA (which is not my favorite stat... I get what it's trying to do, but I don't love the way it's trying to do it.) I'm really curious about OBP, more than anything else, since it seems some of the value in being a good 2-strike hitter is turning a "near out" into a "not out", regardless of specific outcome of the at-bat (of course, I suppose the flip side of that is that turning a "near out" into a home run or a triple is even more valuable than just a plain ol' homer and/or triple).

Anyway... I can't find it with more detail. And I'm giving up for now. But fantastic question.

      1. I'm curious, what's your complaint with wOBA? You can also use BP's TAv, which is the same thing but scaled differently.

As to the topic at hand, I don't see an easy way to get the slash line for a split.

        1. It's mostly the scaling (let's just add 15% because that makes things look like we want them to!). The more derivative a stat becomes the more I question it (though, of course, I laugh about the importance of wins too, so it's not like I accept non-derivative stats either). This is a really big discussion though. And one I very much want to have. But also one I'm not ready to get into tonight.
