Whatever Liam Hendriks needs to learn, he's not going to learn it in Rochester.  A big Rock Cats come back.  Byron Buxton hits his first home run as a Twin.

ROCHESTER 4, LEHIGH VALLEY 0 IN ROCHESTER

Batting starsClete Thomas was 2-for-3 with a double   Wilkin Ramirez hit a home run, his seventh.

Pitching starsLiam Hendriks pitched seven strong innings, giving up five hits and a walk.  Esmerling Vasquez struck out three in two shutout innings, allowing one hit.

Opposition stars:  Kevin Frandsen and Pete Orr were each 2-for-4 with a double.

Key inning:  The third.  It was a scoreless tie.  With one out, Thomas singled and scored on a Michael Hollimon double.  Singles by Tsuyoshi Nishioka and Pedro Florimon brought Hollimon home to give the Red Wings a 2-0 lead.

NEW BRITAIN 6, NEW HAMPSHIRE 5 IN NEW HAMPSHIRE (10 INNINGS)

Batting starsEvan Bigley was 3-for-4.  Deibinson Romero was 2-for-5 with a home run, his twelfth.  Estarlin De Los Santos was 2-for-4.

Pitching starBruce Pugh threw two shutout innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Jack Murphy was 3-for-4 with a double.  Mark Sobolewski was 2-for-5 with a home run, driving in three.  Deck McGuire struck out ten in six innings, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk.

Key inning:  The ninth.  The Rock Cats trailed 5-2.  Singles by Nathan Hanson, De Los Santos, and James Beresford loaded the bases with one out.  Chris Herrmann singled to left, and when the left fielder misplayed the ball, all three runs scored to tie the game.

Other:  The winning run scored when De Los Santos was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

JUPITER 11, FORT MYERS 6 IN FORT MYERS

Batting starAnderson Hidalgo was 3-for-4 with a double, driving in three.

Pitching starA. J. Achter struck out three in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Alfredo Lopez was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run, scoring three times.  Danny Black was 3-for-5 with a double.  Marcell Ozuna was 3-for-5 and drove in three.

Key inning:  The sixth.  The Miracle had just scored three to take a 6-5 lead.  The Hammerheads used two doubles, a single, and an error to score three of their own and re-take the lead at 8-6.

BELOIT 2, BURLINGTON 1 IN BELOIT

Batting starsSteven Liddle was 2-for-3 with a double.  Nate Roberts was 2-for-3 with a walk.

Pitching starMatthew Summers allowed one run on eight hits and two walks in seven innings.

Opposition stars:  Rashun Dixon was 2-for-4 with a double.  Eliezer Mesa was 2-for-5.  Seth Frankoff pitched four shutout innings.

Key inning:  The seventh.  Trailing 2-1, the Bees got a double and a single to put runners on first and third with one out.  Summers got the next two batters to pop up and strike out, respectively, to end the threat.

Other:  Burlington managed only one run despite getting nine hits and four walks.

ELIZABETHTON 8, JOHNSON CITY 4 IN JOHNSON CITY

Batting starsD. J. Hicks was 3-for-5.  Jorge Polanco was 2-for-4 with a double.  Jhonatan Arias was 2-for-4 and drove in three.

Pitching starsBrett Lee struck out five in three innings, giving up one run on two hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Jeremy Schaffer was 3-for-5 with two doubles and a home run.  Carson Kelly was 2-for-4 with a home run.  Cesar Aguilar threw 2.1 scoreless innings.

Key inning:  The seventh.  The Twins led 4-3.  Singles by Polanco, Max Kepler, Hicks, and Adam Walker produced two runs.  An error loaded the bases, and Arias singled in two to give the Twins an 8-3 lead.

OtherNiko Goodrum was hit by a pitch in the first inning and came out of the game.  There was no word on his condition.

GCL TWINS 3, RED SOX 0 AT TWINS

Batting starsByron Buxton was 2-for-4 with a home run, his first.  Jose Ramirez was 2-for-3.

Pitching starsAustin Malinowski struck out seven in five innings, allowing three hits and no walks.  Chris Mazza gave up a hit in two shutout innings.  Jose Berrios struck out two in two perfect innings.

Opposition star:  Sergio Gomez gave up two runs (one earned) on five hits in five innings, striking out six and walking none.

Key inning:  The third.  It was a scoreless tie.  Buxton hit a one-out homer to put the Twins in front.  A pair of errors gave them an insurance run.

Other:  The Red Sox made five errors.

Pitching starReyson Zoquiel struck out two and allowed one hit in a scoreless ninth.

Opposition stars:  Francisco Sanchez, Adonis Paula, and Wilfredo Petit were each 2-for-5 with a triple.

Key inning:  The ninth.  Trailing 6-3, the Twins put runners on second and third with two out.  An error, a stolen base, and a wild pitch brought in two runs and put the tying run at third.  Eddy Concepcion then lined out to first to end the game.
