Minor Details: Games of 7/13

The Miracle is done in by a big-leaguer.  Will Hurt gets his first pro hit.  Kyle Gibson faces five batters in a rehab start.

Opposition star:  John Lindsey was 2-for-4 with two doubles.

Key inning:  The fifth.  The score was tied at two.  An error, a single, and a bunt loaded the bases with none out.  Matt Carson singled in one and Chris Parmelee and Danny Valencia each scored runs with fly outs to put the Red Wings up 5-2.

NEW BRITAIN 9, TRENTON 2 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting starsDeibinson Romero was 3-for-5 with a double.  Oswaldo Arcia was 3-for-5.  Evan Bigley was 2-for-4 with a home run, his twelfth.

Other:  There’s nothing to be done about it, but it seems unfair for a team in Class A to lose because a major-leaguer hits a two-run homer against them.

BELOIT 8, FORT WAYNE 3 IN FORT WAYNE

Batting starsDrew Leachman was 3-for-5.  Stephen Wickens was 2-for-3.  Wang-wei Lin was 0-for-2 but walked three times.

Other:  Later in the fifth inning, the play-by-play says, “Nate Roberts caught stealing home, pitcher James Jones to first baseman Travis Whitmore.”  A 1-3 caught stealing of home?  How does that work?

  1. Minor Details will not be published tomorrow. We hope it will be back Monday, but depending on how things go, it may not return until Tuesday.

  2. Glad to see he's pitching, but He retired two, giving up a home run, a double, and a walk....Yikes.

    1. It really doesn't matter what the results at this point as long as he doesn't have an injury setback.

      1. I know, I know...I'm just compelled to comment on results like that, especially concerning Twins pitching!

  3. I'm pretty sure any player in a 0-for-28 slump is willing to take a blooper.
