Apparently the promotion has gone to spoons' head.
I thought you said you'd remember us when??
'Jeremy' Jeremy Guthrie
Just for kicks, I'm listening to the Espanol Gameday Audio. The commercials are less annoying, and the announcers don't mispronounce names as badly as Dazzle does.
97 degrees at game time. Here, it is headed towards 101.
7-pitch at bat to start the game. Not bad, Span.
Dazz: Guthrie is an innings-eater.
Me: can we eat his lunch today, please?
is Dick Bremer suggesting that Butera is a better catcher than Mauer Liriano is throwing more strikes now?
Mauer now sixth in Twins history in career BBs (14th in franchise history). He's in the top ten in franchise history in offensive WAR (7th), BA (3rd), OBP (1st), OPS (3rd), OPS+ (4th), adjusted batting runs (7th), adjusted batting wins (7th-tied), offensive win pct (6th), sacrifice flies (8th), IBBs (5th), and, somewhat ignobly, GIDP (10th).
he is also 10th on the Twins doubles list (237), and can pass Cuddyer (239), maybe Morneau (248) and maybe Gaetti (252) and Hunter (259).
And tied for 17th in home runs with Don Mincher.
Mauer (90) only 6 behind Randy Bush (96)
Mauer is also 11th on the Twins RBI list with 547. Cuddyer is 10 with 580.
Micheal Cuddyer is in the top 10 in a lot of categories. I dont know if that means he was a pretty good player, or the Twins dont have too many hitting stars that stuck around to compile stats.
Part of it is definitely the Griffith legacy. Cheap owners don't get to keep good hitters very long.
Finally, he's 16th in outs. Only 22 behind Gagne and might be able to pass Knoblauch this season, who has 253 more outs.
sweet, strike-em-out-throw-em-out DP.
My favorite kind.
Mother!!!
mmm, tasty Donut for brunch.
Donut for Doumit.
Good Doumit.
Since Dazzle loves Salvador Perez so much and thinks he's the next big catching star, I'm going to assume Perez will be a backup catcher for most of his career.
Yeah, I had to switch back to the English feed. Too many rolled "R"'s on the Espanol feed.
I think a lot of people think that Perez is going to be a good catcher. it was quite a blow to lost him for a chunk of the season with an injury.
Yeah, everything I've seen from him so far looks like he should be a good one. However, since Dazzle has a penchant for liking hustling scrubs and "good-looking" players over talented guys who don't fit Dazz's opinion of what a good baseball player should be, I'm a little more leery of Perez than I normally would be.
Hi everybody!
hey, Twayn! Good to see you here. What's the latest word?
Going home tomorrow morning with a good prognosis.
that's great news.
Good to hear you are doing good, Twayn. That was quite a shock to read about this morning when I was scrolling through yesterday's gamelog.
I didn't exactly dodge the bullet, but this one only grazed me.
Does that Mauer guy ever swing the bat?
FOR THE AMOUNT OF MONEY WE PAY HIM HE NEEDS TO CREATE HIS OWN RUNS!
Doumit!
mmm, Twins Royals' baseball.
Doumit is on pace for what, 9 RBI this game.
Bull Dozier!
DOOOOOOOM ON YOU THE ROYALS
Killdozer!
Nice. I dislike Dozier a little less now.
jeebus. I leave the room for a couple of minutes to make a sandwich, and De-duderino blows most of the lead? Give-back runs suck.
[ed: oops. Misread the score. 4th INNING, not 4 runs. Never mind.]
will Jamey Carroll or Ben Revere hit a ball over the fence for a home run this year?
Ben maybe- if he misplays a ball at the outfield wall and knocks it over to give the opposition a home run.
Yes, assuming Revere plays winter ball.
Or he he gets a hold of one to center field at Knute Nelson Ballpark.
or hits a popup in Yankme Stadium.
or hits a ground ball in yankee stadium
or hits a groundball at Comerica Park?
I'll take the under.
I'd give the better odds to Carroll.
Who would have thought that team plate discipline was the way to beat a Jeremy? Yeah, okay, you can all put your hands down now.
1993 shortstop??
My first thought was Pat Meares.
what is the question?
who was the opening day starter at SS and who played the most games at SS in 1993?
(Leius and Meares, respectively)
Get somebody up in the bullpen.
El Duderino might not be into the whole brevity thing, but I don't know that he's on the verge of imploding yet.
I guess iPhones don't speak Yiddish. Mine keeps changing 'Oy!' to 'It!'
I would have preferred a double play for a run, but and out for a run will do.
Huh. I was wondering where Morneau had been yesterday and today. On paternity leave!
also, the LA Times is making stuff up. I love fantasy sports writing. Not Fantasy Sports writing.
Morneau for Kershaw.
GET IT DON TERRYE RYN!!!!
Hey, a lead! Cool.
Twitter tells me the Twins are asking for "a ton" for Span, which is good considering he's signed through 2015 to a reasonable contract. Hopefully, "a ton" does not include a reliever.
--Or if it does include a reliever, that it also includes a lot of other stuff, and that the reliever is not the focal point of the trade.
I want 'The Big Hrbowski' robe!
I'm beginning to think that I want a Deduno game used (much in the same way that AMR has the Depaula).
In order to embed YouTube videos, you can only include the "v=blahblah" part. The easiest way is to use the share link and mangle the "http" to "httpv".
A good day for donuts!
The next Mickey Mantle!!!
He's a drunk?
and has osteomyelitis?
I am so not going to type "he's dead?"
Too late.
Bremer notes that Doumit is only the 3rd Twins player to hit a HR from each side of the plate in one game. Roy Smalley, and Chili Davis were the other two.
DOUBLE DOOM.
I do love that signing, and I absolutely adore the extension.
Willingham and Doumit have turned out to be winner signings. Carroll has been serviceable. Zumaya an unfortunate bust, Marquis a predictable bust. All in all, a decent off-season, but I still wish they could have kept the Dude.
the Twins also had a nice find in Burton.
Yeah. My Reds fan friend texted me when he heard that we'd gotten him and told me that if he stayed healthy we were really going to like that signing. He was right. Burton's been the most consistent arm in the bullpen this year.
Aye to that.
We did okay with our Rule 5 picks, too.
Terry Doyle?
Diamonds are forever.
that was 2010, was it not?
Twins traded Billy Bullock to Atlanta to keep him back in March 2011.
Gaffe noted.
OFFS, Span.
Span blows a tire rounding second.
Spantastic base running there.
I like when the Twins play KC, it means I can watch on the TV, but man I am getting really sick of Rex Hudler.
6 1/3 from Deduderino and only one run allowed. Much more than expected.
His longest major league start by a full inning. Solid outing.
Let's get through this inning without Snotsnack.
What happened?
Dazz saying that the ump blew the call in the Twins' favor.
thats what it looked like to me.
Heh. Ya got screwed on that one KC.
Nice pitch, Slipshod.
smoked salmon
One more run for a SOC, right?
Why would Hosmer bother to tag up on that, with Willingham coming in on the ball? What's the point? Does he have money on the spread for this game?
Oy. Perk, this is not a good performance.
Perkins pitches to the score. I'd like that to stop now.
Not too convincing Perk, but Doumit already got enough donuts for the day.
Puppies!
Twins take the series! Deduno is going to challenge Scott Diamond for Rookie of the Year! Ryan Doumit will challenge Josh Willingham and Trevor Plouffe! for the home run championship! We're still on track for 107-55!
Apparently the promotion has gone to spoons' head.
