PAWTUCKET 9, ROCHESTER 3 IN ROCHESTER
Batting stars: Ray Chang was 3-for-4. Chris Parmelee was 2-for-3 with a walk and a home run, his thirteenth.
Pitching stars: David Bromberg threw three shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk. Anthony Slama faced four batters, striking out three and walking one.
Opposition stars: Danny Valencia was 2-for-3 with two walks and two doubles. Jose Iglasias was 3-for-5 with a double. Jason Repko was 2-for-6 with a double and a home run, driving in three.
Key inning: The third. Leading 3-2, the Red Sox scored four times to put the game away early. They started the inning with two singles, a walk, and a two-run single by Dan Butler. With one out, Repko doubled in two more.
Other: Trevor Plouffe! begins a rehab assignment tonight…Daisuke Matsuzaka started for Pawtucket on a rehab assignment. He allowed two runs on five hits and two walks in 4.2 innings.
NEW BRITAIN 5, READING 1 IN NEW BRITAIN
Batting stars: Aaron Hicks was 2-for-4. Rene Tosoni was 1-for-2 with a double and two walks.
Pitching star: B. J. Hermsen pitched a complete game, allowing one run on ten hits but only one walk.
Opposition stars: Brandon Tripp and Jake Opitz were each 2-for-4 with a double. Tyson Gilles was 2-for-4.
Key inning: The eighth. The Rock Cats led 2-1. An error, a single, and a hit batsman loaded the bases with one out. An infield out scored one run, and RBI singles by Hicks and Chris Herrmann gave New Britain the insurance runs they needed.
ST. LUCIE 2, FORT MYERS 1 IN FORT MYERS
Batting stars: None.
Pitching stars: Miguel Munoz struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up one hit. Ryan O’Rourke struck out three in three shutout innings, allowing two hits and a walk.
Opposition stars: Alonzo Harris was 3-for-4. Blake Forsythe was 2-for-3 with a walk. Logan Verrett gave up one run on four hits and a walk while striking out five in 6.1 innings.
Key inning: The fifth. The Mets led 2-0. Daniel Ortiz led off with a single. With one out, Anderson Hidalgo delivered an RBI double, but was thrown out trying to stretch it to a triple. The Miracle never seriously threatened again.
BELOIT 2, QUAD CITIES 1 IN QUAD CITIES
Batting star: Adam Pettersen was 2-for-3.
Pitching star: David Hurlbut allowed just one run on six hits and no walks in seven strong innings.
Opposition stars: Luis Mateo was 2-for-3 with a walk. Nicholas Longmire was 2-for-4. Starter Boone Whiting struck out three in four shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks.
Key inning: The ninth. It was a 1-1 tie. Stephen Wickens singled, went to second on a bunt, and scored on a Pettersen single. The River Bandits loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the ninth, but a strikeout and a foul out ended the game.
Other: Batting coach Tommy Watkins was ejected in the third inning, apparently for arguing a call on a stolen base.
ELIZABETHTON 3, BRISTOL 2 AT BRISTOL (GAME 1—SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)
Batting stars: Byron Buxton was 2-for-3 with a double. Adam Walker and Jorge Polanco were each 2-for-3.
Pitching star: Angel Mata struck out five in five shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk.
Opposition stars: None.
Key inning: The ninth. The Twins were leading 3-0, but a walk, and double, and a single closed the gap to 3-2 and put the tying run on base with one out. Tyler Duffey then entered the game and got a strikeout and a fly out to end the game.
ELIZABETHTON 5, BRISTOL 2 AT BRISTOL (GAME 2—SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)
Batting stars: Travis Harrison was 3-for-3 with two doubles.
Pitching star: Ricardo Arevalo struck out five in four innings, allowing an unearned run on two hits and a walk.
Opposition stars: Eric Grabe was 2-for-3 with a double. Steven Nikorak was 2-for-3.
Key inning: The third. The Twins led 1-0. Jorge Polanco led off the inning with a double, but the next two batters struck out. An error put runners on first and third, and a double by Adam Walker scored two. Walker took third on a throw home and scored on a wild pitch, putting Elizabethton ahead 4-0.
Other: Bristol made four errors. All five Twins runs were unearned.
GCL RED SOX 8, TWINS 4 AT TWINS
Batting star: Joel Licon was 2-for-4.
Pitching star: Josue Montanez struck out five of the six men he faced in two perfect innings.
Opposition stars: Sergio Gomez struck out six in six shutout innings of relief. Jose Colorado was 2-for-4 with a double. Mike Meyers was 2-for-3.
Key inning: The third. In a scoreless tie, the Red Sox scored three. A double, an error, a walk, and two singles produced the runs. The Twins never really got back into the game.
DSL CUBS1 4, TWINS 3 AT TWINS
Batting star: Dubal Baez was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.
Pitching star: Starter Fernando Romero went three innings, giving up just one hit.
Opposition star: Francisco Carrillo struck out four in four scoreless innings of relief, allowing two hits.
Key inning: The fourth. The Twins led 3-0 when the Cubs1 scored four times. Four singles, an error, and two hit batsmen produced the runs. The Cubs1 were able to make the lead stand up the rest of the game.
