Minor Details: Games of 8/11

Trevor Plouffe! struggles in rehab.  A big game for Oswaldo Arcia.  A solid start in the Appalachian League for Jose Berrios.  A report on yesterday’s games will come later this morning.

ROCHESTER 5, PAWTUCKET 3 IN ROCHESTER

Batting starsClete Thomas was 2-for-4.  Chris Parmelee was 1-for-3 with a walk and a double.

Pitching starsPedro Hernandez threw six solid innings, giving up two runs on seven hits and no walks.  Bobby Lanigan worked two shutout innings, walking one and striking out two.

Opposition stars:  Che-Hsuan Lin was 3-for-3.  Josh Fields struck out three in two perfect innings.

Key inning:  The eighth.  The score was tied at two.  A single and a walk put two on with one out.  Thomas singled to give the Red Wings the lead.  A hit batsman loaded the bases and Wilkin Ramirez drove in an insurance run.  A ground out scored another to put Rochester ahead 5-2.

OtherTrevor Plouffe! made his first rehab start, going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts…The Red Wings released pitcher Eric Hurley and placed Sean Burroughs on the disabled list with an back injury.

NEW BRITAIN 10, READING 6 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting starsOswaldo Arcia was 3-for-3 with two walks, a double, and a home run (his seventh).  He drove in four.  Chris Herrmann was 2-for-3 with two walks and a three-run homer, his ninth.  James Beresford was 2-for-3 with a double.

Pitching starBlake Martin gave up two runs on five hits and two walks.  He struck out five.

Opposition stars:  Miguel Abreu was 3-for-4.  Darin Ruf was 2-for-4 with a walk and a home run.  Brandon Tripp was 2-for-4 with a double.

Key inning:  The third.  The Rock Cats led 4-2.  A hit batsman and a single put runners on first and second.  Beresford hit a one-out double to score one.  A walk loaded the bases with two out.  Arcia singled in two and Chris Colabello singled in one to put New Britain comfortably ahead.

ST. LUCIE 3, FORT MYERS 0 IN FORT MYERS

Batting starsLance Ray and Josmil Pinto were each 1-for-3 with a walk.

Pitching starRicky Bowen struck out four in three shutout innings, allowing three hits.

Opposition star:  Jacob DeGrom worked seven strong innings, striking out eight while giving up one hit and three walks.  John Church struck out three in two innings.

Key inning:  The first.  An error, a single, and a walk loaded the bases for the Mets.  A sacrifice fly scored the first run of the game, and Rafael Fernandez singled to score another.  That turned out to be as many runs as he needed.

Other:  The Miracle had only four hits in the game.

PEORIA 5, BELOIT 3 IN BELOIT

Batting starsMiguel Sano was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles.  JaDamion Williams was 1-for-3 with two walks.

Pitching starSteven Gruver gave up one run on two hits and a walk while striking out three in 3.1 innings.

Opposition stars:  Wes Darvill was 3-for-4 with a double.  Jorge Soler hit a grand slam.

Key inning:  The seventh.  The Chiefs had led 4-3 since the third, but the Snappers had threatened a couple of times.  Dustin Geiger led off the inning with a double, took third on a wild pitch, and scored on a single by Darvill to give Peoria an insurance run.

ELIZABETHTON 8, BRISTOL 0 IN BRISTOL

Batting starsMax Kepler was 3-for-5 with a double.  Jhonatan Arias was 3-for-5.  Candido Pimentel was 2-for-4 with a walk and two doubles.

Pitching starsJose Berrios struck out five in four innings, allowing a hit and a walk.  Travis Huber struck out two in two innings, giving up one hit.  Luis Nunez struck out three in two perfect innings.

Opposition star:  Jefferson Olacio allowed one run on three hits and three walks while striking out five in five innings.

Key inning:  The fourth.  In a scoreless tie, Niko Goodrum walked and scored on Kepler’s double to give the Twins a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the inning, a single and a walk put two on with two out before a fly out ended the inning.  That was the only inning in which the White Sox threatened.

Other:  Four Elizabethton pitchers held Bristol to two hits.

GCL RED SOX 6, TWINS 3 AT TWINS

Batting starsBryan Santy was 2-for-3.  Javier Pimentel was 2-for-4.

Pitching starsMelciades De La Cruz struck out four in two shutout innings, allowing one hit.  Alexander Muren worked two shutout innings, yielding only a walk.

Opposition stars:  Mike Meyers was 2-for-3 with a walk and two doubles.  Nick Moore was 2-for-3 with a walk and a home run.  Francellis Montas struck out five in four shutout innings.

Key inning:  The second.  Trailing 1-0, the Red Sox scored four times.  Meyers delivered a two-run double, one run scored on a ground out, and a Moore single drove in the fourth run of the inning.

DSL TWINS 8, CUBS1 5 AT CUBS1

Batting starDubal Baez was 2-for-2 with three walks and a double.

Pitching starJadison Jimenez threw two shutout innings, allowing one hit.

Opposition stars:  Arnaldo Calero was 3-for-4.  Miguel Rico was 3-for-5 with a double.  Francisco Sanchez was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run.

Key inning:  The seventh.  After leading 5-2 and 6-4, the Twins lead had fallen to 6-5.  Francis Mateo hit a two-out homer to make it 7-5.  The lead was never seriously threatened again.
