More great pitching in Rochester.  A solid rehab outing for Carl Pavano.  Another eleven-run inning against the Miracle.  A Snapper comeback falls short.

ROCHESTER 2, INDIANAPOLIS 1 IN ROCHESTER (10 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Eduardo Escobar was 2-for-4 with a triple.  Clete Thomas was 2-for-4.  Tsuyoshi Nishioka was 2-for-5.

Pitching stars:  Pedro Hernandez worked seven strong innings, giving up one run on six hits and a walk.  Luis Perdomo threw three shutout innings, allowing two hits and no walks.

Opposition star:  Rick VandenHurk allowed one run on seven hits in no walks in eight innings.

Key inning:  The tenth.  It was a 1-1 tie.  With two out, Brian Dozier doubled.  Chris Parmelee was intentionally walked, but Wilkin Ramirez singled to center to drive in the winning run.

RICHMOND 3, NEW BRITAIN 1 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting star:  Aaron Hicks was 1-for-3 with a walk and a double.

Pitching stars:  Matthew Hauser and Edgar Ibarra each pitched two shutout innings.  Hauser allowed only a walk, while Ibarra gave up two hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Gary Brown was 3-for-4.  Mark Minicozzi was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Daryl Maday struck out four in three shutout innings, giving up just one hit.

Key inning:  The third.  In a 1-1 tie, the Flying Squirrels scored twice.  With one out, Juan Perez and Minicozzi hit back-to-back doubles and Johnny Monell hit an RBI single.  In the bottom of the inning, the Rock Cats had runners on first and second with one out, but a strikeout/throw out double play ended the threat.

JUPITER 12, FORT MYERS 7 IN JUPITER

Batting stars:  Lance Ray was 3-for-5 with a double.  Daniel Santana was 2-for-4 with a walk.

Pitching star:  Carl Pavano, making a rehab start, worked three shutout innings, allowing two hits and no walks while striking out two.

Opposition stars:  Mark Canha was 3-for-4.  Marcell Ozuna was 3-for-5 with a double.  Donnie Murphy was 2-for-5 with a triple.

Key inning:  The fourth.  The Miracle led 7-0 when the Hammerheads exploded for eleven runs for the second straight day.  The inning featured six singles, two doubles, and four walks.  Three of the walks were with the bases loaded, and came to consecutive batters.

Other:  There were only three innings in which runs were scored.  Fort Myers scored all seven of its runs in the first.  Jupiter scored eleven of its twelve runs in the fourth, adding one in the sixth.

WISCONSIN 6, BELOIT 5 IN BELOIT

Batting stars:  Drew Leachman was 3-for-5 with a double.  Eddie Rosario was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Nate Roberts was 2-for-5.

Pitching star:  Steven Gruver tossed two shutout innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Cameron Garfield was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run, driving in three.  Brandon Macias was 2-for-3 with two doubles and a walk.

Key inning:  The ninth.  The Snappers trailed 6-2.  A single and a walk put two on with one out.  Miguel Sano doubled to make it 6-3.  A walk loaded the bases and Leachman doubled to make the score 6-5.  An intentional walk loaded the bases, but Matthew Koch and Tyler Grimes struck out to end the game.

Other:  Beloit stranded thirteen runners and went 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position.

ELIZABETHTON 7, BLUEFIELD 3 IN BLUEFIELD (GAME 1—SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Candido Pimentel was 2-for-4 with a double.  Adam Walker was 1-for-3 with a home run, his thirteenth.

Pitching star:  Starter Hudson Boyd went four innings, allowing one run on three hits and a walk.

Opposition star:  Dickie Thon was 2-for-2 with a double.

Key inning:  The second.  The Twins led 1-0.  Rory Rhodes opened the inning with a single and Byron Buxton followed with a double to put runners on second and third with none out.  A sacrifice fly and an infield out scored both runners to make the score 3-0.

BLUEFIELD 6, ELIZABETHTON 4 IN BLUEFIELD (GAME 2—SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting star:  Max Kepler was 2-for-4 with a double.

Pitching stars:  None.

Opposition stars:  None.

Key inning:  The fifth.  The Twins had scored twice in the fourth to tie it at three.  The Blue Jays then used four singles and an error to score three times.  Eric Arce drove in two with a single and Nico Taylor drove in one with a single.

Other:  It sounds strange to say there were really no stars, but that’s the way it was.  Kepler was the only player with more than one hit.  No one went more than 1.1 scoreless innings.  It was just one of those games.

GCL RAYS 3, TWINS 2 AT RAYS (10 INNINGS)

Batting star:  Logan Wade was 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, and a home run, his first.

Pitching star:  Starter Andre Martinez worked four shutout innings, giving up four hits and no walks.

Opposition stars:  Geisel De La Cruz pitched five shutout innings, striking out five while allowing three hits and a walk.  Yoel Araujo was 2-for-3 with a double.  Jiminson Natera was 2-for-3.

Key inning:  The tenth.  It was a 2-2 tie.  Natera led off the inning with a single, took second on a bunt, went to third on a ground out, and scored on a wild pitch to win the game.

DSL REDS 3, TWINS 2 AT TWINS

Batting star:  Adonis Pacheco was 2-for-2 with two walks and a double.

Pitching star:  Damian Defrank went five innings, giving up one run on four hits and a walk.  Jose Ramirez struck out three in two shutout innings, allowing one hit.

Opposition star:  Ronald Bueno was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run.

Key inning:  The ninth.  The score was tied at one.  Bueno led off the ninth with a home run to give the Reds the lead.  Kevin W. Garcia then singled, stole second, went to third on a ground out, and scored on another ground out to give the Reds an insurance run.  In the bottom of the inning, a single and a walk put two on with two out and Junior Boni singled to make the score 3-2.  A wild pitch put runners on second and third, but a ground out ended the game.
