SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 6, ROCHESTER 0 IN ROCHESTER
Batting stars: Wilkin Ramirez was 4-for-4. Chris Parmelee was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double.
Pitching stars: Starter P. J. Walters worked three innings in his rehab start. He struck out six, giving up three hits and two walks. Luis Perdomo retired all five batters he faced, striking out two.
Opposition stars: Corban Joseph was 3-for-3 with two walks and four RBIs. John Maine went six innings, allowing four hits and two walks. Chase Whitley threw two innings, giving up two hits.
Key inning: The fourth. In a scoreless tie, the Yankees scored three times. A walk and a Melky Mesa double put S/WB in front. A single and a walk loaded the bases and Joseph had a two-run single to give the Yankees all the runs they would need.
Other: The Red Wings had six hits, all from only two players.
PORTLAND 7, NEW BRITAIN 4 IN PORTLAND
Batting stars: Rene Tosoni was 2-for-4 with a home run, his third. Chris Herrmann and Nathan Hanson were each 2-for-4.
Pitching stars: Aaron Thompson and Blake Martin each worked a perfect inning.
Opposition star: Xander Bogaerts was 2-for-4 with two doubles.
Key inning: The eighth. The Rock Cats had scored in the sixth and seventh to cut a 5-2 deficit to 5-4 when the Sea Dogs tallied twice to put the game away. The damage was all done with two out. A single, a walk, and Bogaerts’ two-run double made the score 7-4.
Other: New Britain out-hit Portland 11-8. The Sea Dogs were 5-for-6 with runners in scoring position.
PALM BEACH 6, FORT MYERS 4 IN PALM BEACH
Batting star: Anderson Hidalgo was 2-for-3.
Pitching stars: Kyle Gibson struck out six in four innings, allowing one run on three hits and no walks. Madison Boer gave up one run on two hits in four innings, striking out three.
Opposition stars: Chris Edmondson hit a grand slam. Aidan Lucas struck out four in 2.2 scoreless innings, walking two.
Key inning: The sixth. Trailing 6-1, the Miracle staged a comeback. A double, a walk, and a Daniel Ortiz single made it 6-2. With one out, Steven Liddle delivered an RBI single to make it 6-3. A walk loaded the bases and a sacrifice fly made it 6-4. Another walk loaded the bases again, but Lance Ray flied out to end the threat.
Other: Hidalgo was ejected from the game in the sixth inning after being called out on strikes.
QUAD CITIES 5, BELOIT 3 IN QUAD CITIES
Batting stars: Miguel Sano was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run, his twenty-sixth. Kennys Vargas was 2-for-4 with a home run, his tenth.
Pitching star: Zachary Jones struck out two in a perfect inning.
Opposition stars: Matt Williams was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run. Sam Gaviglio pitched seven strong innings, allowing one run on five hits and no walks.
Key inning: The fifth. The River Bandits led 2-1 and scored two insurance runs. Four consecutive one-out singles plated the runs. RBIs went to Stephen Piscotty and Anthony Melchionda.
ELIZABETHTON 3, KINGSPORT 2 IN ELIZABETHTON
Batting star: Kelvin Mention was 2-for-4. Byron Buxton was 1-for-3 with a walk and scored twice.
Pitching star: Brett Lee struck out eight in 5.2 innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks. Tyler Duffey struck out five in 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing one hit.
Opposition stars: Jorge Rivero was 2-for-4 with a home run. Andrew Massie gave up one run on four hits and two walks in five innings.
Key inning: The ninth. The score was tied at two. The Twins led off the inning with two walks. A bunt was popped up for the first out, but an error then brought home the winning run.
Other: Each team squandered plenty of chances. They combined for 16 runners left on base and 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position.
