WGOM Fitness: October 26, 2012, No Capitol Capitulation

I drove out to the Capitol City last night and I brought my workout clothes with me. I set the alarm for five-thirty and laid in bed for another half hour, thinking of all the reasons that I didn't need to exercise. I almost had myself convinced that I didn't need to do it. But, at 6 AM, I put my feet on the floor and got out of bed. I put on the workout clothes, went down the workout room, and got at it. 30 minutes of riding later, I felt good and I felt good about now capitulating.

Every day is a new opportunity to make a positive statement about fitness. I ate my breakfast according to the plan.

  1. Every day, I make it a priority to figure out when I'm going to get my exercise in. Ideally, it would be the same time every day, but my life doesn't work that way. If I schedule it in, though, and make it a priority, I can generally find time for it, emergencies excepted.

    1. Since I turned 40, I have been logging my workouts (it makes me feel like I'm getting credit for it, or something).

I used to travel a lot for work back then. I found that I would usually miss working out on on travel days.

So I made a concerted effort to plan ahead, and think about how I was going to get in something on a travel day (swim, run, spin, weights, etc).

And now, I would have to be sick or such for it not to happen, as I plan for it in advance.

  2. Normally I would save this for the book day, but now seems more appropriate. From the NYT: The Island Where People Forget to Die. I liked the middle to end where the author looked at everything about the people who seem to live a long time, noting that although each part helps, it's everything about them that keeps you healthy.

  3. For the year I am at 1,930 miles ridden on my bike and tandem. The weather looks dry if a little cold this week so I am going to suck it up, put on some warm clothes and try to get those last 70 miles in to reach 2,000. Sunday afternoon I am planning a 25 miler or so and the rest I can pick up going to work. Then the bike goes in the basement on a trainer and I will be watching The Wire (for the 2nd time) over the winter.

      1. I'd rather Color Me Badd:

Upon reflection, Kenny G and Johnny Damon sing quite well in this awful song that I own on cassette tape from when I thought bad music impressed girls. (Also, a song with "Sex" in the title!)

  4. Got out and did 40M bike today after a 3.5M run (cool earlier, but then warmed up). Coastal route, rollling hills and some climbs.

  5. The gym I'd been using had a $10 promotion going on, so I at least have gym membership for awhile. Had to cut this weekend's beer rations, but I'm supposed to be getting into shape anyway, right?
