Unfortunately, my plans for workouts in ND collided with the overwhelming work burden that I have and the only workout I got it was at the hotel in Bismarck. Never fear, though, I'll be back in Minnesota by 5 PM tonight and tomorrow and the five days after that will include a good workout at the gym. Until then, moderation with the candy, folks, and Happy Halloween.
Day 99
Weight: 238.5
Total Loss: 46.0
Last 30 days: 13.0
Last night, my mother said that my weight loss made me look "gaunt" and "older". She also claimed that these were "compliments".
Nothing like a mother to boost your spirits.
"Have another dinner roll!"
Is your mother sekretly Jewish, Stick?
Heh, I was just going to ask if he was actually Sheenie's long-lost older brother.
I started growing my hair a couple of years ago after I lost a bet to my brother. I had a buzz cut for almost my whole life. After about 8 months of growth, and a decent haircut, a coworker said to me, "you look so much better, and younger, with hair". I know this was a compliment, but was left wondering how shitty I looked before.
Makes me never want to shave my beard and continue living in blissful ignorance about my appearance.
I shaved my beard this summer and immediately got the, "It makes you look a lot younger" comment from quite a few coworkers. Even with the beard, most of those who have asked about my age* seem to think I'm 20-25...no beard, and I look about 16. A chubby 16, but 16 none-the-less. If I shaved my beard and lost weight, I can't imagine how young I'd appear. Either way, I'm probably too short to ever appear "gaunt".
*Waiters/servers all seem to inquire about your age in a certain way, as if to confirm or wonder to themselves, "If he's that old, what is he doing working here?"
Mind you, I still weigh almost 240 pounds. I'm gaunt like a linebacker.
Since I lost weight a couple of years ago, my mother constantly tells me I'm too thin, even though that's by no means the case. Whenever I visit, she's always trying to shove food at me, especially baked goods. The funny thing is, when it comes to other people, she's constantly commenting about how this person or that person is too fat and needs to lose weight.
Looking back on my youth, my grandmothers (and mother to a lesser degree) would always remark that I was too thin, which was accurate, I was quite skinny. They would always assert that I wasn't eating enough, which I'm pretty sure was not the problem--I ate like a horse when I was a kid. I'm pretty sure that I wasn't growing the way they might have expected because I wasn't doing any manual labor (or weight lifting).
So I think I see where they are coming from now. If I was a farm kid back in the '30s, doing manual labor on a daily basis, and I was really skinny, a lack of food would probably be the best explanation. As it was, I grew up doing practically no physical labor and I ran a lot.
Steve Mesler is on the USA 4-man sled that won gold in Vancouver and he's pretty active on Twitter. I reached out and asked what he does for explosiveness, and he wrote me back (which I kinda geeked over a little) So I'm gonna go try all the stuff he suggested. Probably not to max because I've never done them before, but for form and to get an idea of the mechanics.
Those exercises just kicked my ass. I live on the second floor and one flight of stairs was damn near impossible.
Also, according to the gym scale I lost 3 pounds and am back under 157. Ugh.

Ah, that was a fine month. Just wrapping up my first year of college.
