  1. Between Sheenie and myself, I know Joe Mauer has already received his usual two votes for Soil Commissioner.

  2. Thanks, meat. I got home late, and sick, from a midnight release of Halo 4 last night and barely wanted to look at the computer. This was going to be my title for the Cup anyway, so there we go.

I didn't get to see the awesome comeback, of course. Sigh.

    1. Neither did I. This club is lacking its frontline stars right now (AK47 and Pek excepted), but it is very deep. Deep clubs win a lot of regular season games. If they can just hold on for the next couple of months, things are going to be looking up.

      1. Early results have to rank the AK47 acquisition as one of the best in franchise history, no? I know I was excited heading into the season, but man, that dude is good.

        1. I know the game was over by that point, but his steal at the end (poking the ball away, diving, and saving it to a teammate) was some defense I haven't seen from a Wolf in a long, long time.

            AK is the answer.
            AK is the answer.
            AK lies within.

    2. Hmmm, Halo 4. You know I never played any Halo beyond the original. I hear 2 is compatible with the 360, so I might pick it up and play through it because man, Halo brings back some fond, fond memories.

        1. The only one I liked was the first one, despite giving all the others a try. Despite that I'm extremely interested in 4.

      1. Although I felt like junk last night, it was still fun to watch the tournament we ran. We did a 32-person bracket tournament on Classic Slayer where the winner got a free copy, plus a free Halo 4 controller. The kid (probably about 19-20) was a Halo savant. Only one guy was remotely in his league.

  3. I voted this morning at about 7:40 AM. I was the 164th vote cast in my precinct. In 2008, I waited in line for about an hour. Today, the wait was less than five minutes. It was rainy this morning, just like it was four years ago, I believe. I also remember filling up with gas that morning and paying $2.999 a gallon. This morning in Eagan, the price of gas is $3.08.

    1. I now live across the street from my polling place, so I showed up at 7:06 and waited in line for about 15 minutes. Walked out at 7:28. Yes, I might obsessively check my watch to know the time.

    2. I think I was somewhere around 140-160, but I can't remember the exact number. I waited in line about 15 minutes, or so. I was going to go when I got home from work so my wife could go with me, but it seemed more prudent for me to go early and watch the trinket while she goes in the evening. But yeah, it could be busy there tonight with two school referendums on the ballot.

    3. I stopped by my polling place at 7:04 and found a line of about 150 people (polls opened at 7:00). I'll just stop by later.

    4. Wow, I was vote 82 (1/2 of SBG!) when it was submitted at 7:28 this morning. For some reason, they moved our polling place from the Washburn HS gym (which was roomy and could handle everything) to a tiny church basement (forcing people to stand outside and to have lines snaking down steps).

      1. Take the sick girls!
If other voters catch their colds, well who said democracy was easy?
(Fumbling for the best Toby Keith lyric to fit... failing.)

    5. 206, 207? Got in line at 7:40 (EAR decided we should go as a family), got out at 8:14, just in time to catch the late bus.
Hard to compare to 2008, before our precinct was split. (It was in two school districts, which is kindof dumb: Wait! I gave you the wrong ballot!)

We've had special elections for mayor (after our mayor died) city council (after our city councilor was elected mayor) and their primaries and the midterms and their primaries and this year's primaries. I was so used to getting in and out in five minutes. (For multiple-race ballots, I've printed out a ballot ahead of time from the Sec of State, and just transfer everything over.)

    6. 8:45 am. No line. Vote #244.

Four years ago I got there 15 minutes before it opened and I was probably #150 or so in a line of people waiting outside. Of course, that was in a small town with limited space for polling. The place today was huge with tons of booths.

    7. All mail-in voting in Washington, so I voted last week at some point. I still miss voting in person. Also, gas in Seattle is about $3.77, down from over $4 a couple weeks ago.

    8. #471 on the machine I put my ballot into, there were 473 on the other so I was person 944 to vote. Glad that's over with now.

    9. Got it done. I had the magic touch today, I guess. I showed up and was done within ten minutes. When I left, the place was swamped.

I'd forgotten how good I feel after voting. I think I can say without crossing lines that I really dig America.

  4. I was voter #163 at 9am, with a full voting place. No lines, no hassle, just the way I like it.
With a School referendum and 2 City Council seats filling in the local side of the ballot turnout is going to be huge in my little town.

    1. #21. I got there at 6:50a. When I left at about 7:15a, line had to be at least 100 people long.

    1. bjhess for president! My dad has been older than the president since he was 50 years old. I will be younger than the president at least until the age of 52, unless Mr. Romney is elected and fails to serve out his term (I am older than Mr. Ryan).

  5. Who said it, and was he talking about baseball?

      1. Red? Electioneering at the polls!!!!!!

Mine very properly has a 'merican flag on a white backdrop.

  6. the last time the Wolves had 2 wins after 3 games was the 2006-07 season, where they won their first two.

  7. O.k. The Wolves game from last night is being replayed on FSN. End of the 3rd quarter and they are getting crushed! By the time Love and Rubio get back will this team even be relevant?

  8. I will not be old enough to be President on Election Day 2016, but I will be old enough on Inauguration Day 2017. Does that mean I'm eligible?

(Obviously, this was supposed to nest above.)

        1. If that wasn't the surest sign that he'll not be running against an incumbent, I don't know what is. For a quarter mill a year, I could be his weight coach.

    1. Bronco Bamma was younger than I am now when he was first elected preznit. Hence, I am a total failure in life.

      1. was that what you wanted? Maybe it's a success because you've avoided national office longer than he did!

  9. Computer gurus (twayn and sean, lookin' your way) - do you know of any way to get this video downloaded so I can edit it together with other videos to make a highlight reel? I checked to see if there's a download button in Czech, but there isn't.

    1. This is a tough one. At work so I'm limited in the analysis, but I noticed it's a Flash video. The video could be encrypted, making it far more difficult to use. However, it might not be. If that's the case, then it will need to fetch the video and you can grab the URL that way. It might also be in the HTML source. Youtube downloaders work similarly, so you might be able to use their techniques.

    2. Hmmm, yeah, what sean said. If you right click on an open area of the page and select View Source, you can see all of the HTML code for the page. Look for the code for the video and you might be able to ferret out the source URL for the video component of the page. Otherwise, I see a YouTube link near the bottom of the page. If you can find the video on YouTube it will probably be much easier to download from there. Worst case scenario, try the analog workaround and use your iPhone to record your computer screen while the video plays.

      1. This is as close as I could find for the source code. I used "Inspect Element" and found the right <div> (id="iFramePlayer")http://www.ceskatelevize.cz/ivysilani/embed/iFramePlayer.php?hash=5de2ab9bd0fea866a50fb3bd552a90389761de28&flash&IDEC=212%20471%2029003/0007&skinID=4&playButton=leftBottom Clicking on it, however, appears to do nothing

    3. Got a bit closer. This file seems to be the one with the info on how to get the videos (including the ad!). Unfortunately, I'm not yet sure how it translates the video file to a URL.

Edit: The 'id' seems to be time sensitive, so the link does not work anymore.

  10. Why we watch: the hefty Nikola Pekovic

Here’s how it works. Pekovic aims his body at the front of the rim. When he arrives, he plants his shoulder—preferably the knight-and-skulls one—squarely into his defender’s sternum. Defender gasps audibly. Using this contact as leverage, Pek pivots until his chest is open to the court and his ass, the fulcrum of the entire machine, is sealing the defender—stunned, fatigued, grimacing now—from the passing lane. Helpless defender looks on as Pekovic catches, pivots, scores easily. Defender wonders if he still enjoys playing basketball.

  11. Fun with SSS: Quinnipiac's men's hockey team is 0-for-24 on the power play. But that's OK, because their opponents are 0-for-26.

        1. Obviously because of the WGOM lobbying group. More games on broadcast, Opening Day being a holiday, et cetera.

  12. Voter #131, at 12:05 PM at the Lennox Legion Hall. Took less than ten minutes, and I was the only voter for my township there at that time. Next guy came in as I was leaving.

Small town rural voting is the best.

    1. Carlos Town Hall here. Voted at 5:30pm, and Linds and I were voters 1000 and 1001. Waited in line maybe three minutes.

Small town voting does indeed rule.

        1. Seriously. In September, I walked in at noon, walked right to the desk, got my photo taken, and left. From darkening the door to leaving took about as long as voting did.

      1. Yup. Our township is so small (573 total! And at least 132 of the 573 voted!), we share the Legion Hall with the city of Lennox, which has three districts for 2100 people.

  13. I'm on a train to Dublin tomorrow to meet with the head honcho of a major printmaking workshop to talk about teaching there next year. This has been a wild ride considering my initial foray into printing in Ireland. The shop I'm currently associated with is looking for funding to bring me back again next year as well. I've met so many great artists here, and have had a hand in saving litho in their shop thanks to eager students and the dedication of their director. Man, it feels good to be a gangsta. I think I'll be having an Oyster Porter or three tomorrow.

  14. Election night is a bad time to be on Facebook or Twitter. I'm very thankful for the refuge of the WGOM.

    1. Unlikely. It would require congressional approval, which is about as likely as statehood for DC.

        1. obviously, if the job creators were to speak out on this issue, we'd have alternate home flags, pixie flags, etc. by now.
