I drove up from the Twin Cities on Tuesday night, stayed up way too late, got up early Wednesday morning, the result of which was one exhausted camper.
I was so tired on Wednesday morning that I forgot to weigh myself. I was so tired last night that I slept almost 11 hours. I'm a bright, shiny squirrel with a bushy tail today.
I bought a new pair of workout shoes yesterday. w00t! I'm on the heavy scale now, too, so the number is up, but relative to last time I was here, it's down.
Day 107
Weight: 235.0
Total Loss: 49.5
Weight last time I was on the heavy scale: 238.5
I was 159.5 at the gym yesterday. That's the second time in the last two weeks I've gone from 158 to 156 back up to 159 in three days. I wonder what is causing the fluctuations? I'm pretty careful to weigh myself under the same conditions everyday.
At my club I noticed that where you stand on the scale can vary your measurement. So sometimes I shift my feet around in order to get the most satisfactory reading.
Someone has said this before, but it's best not to get too wrapped up in day-to-day fluctuations. There are a lot of factors that can make your weight vary a pound or two from day to day. If it's up a pound today, down a pound tomorrow, up half a pound the next day, it's probably nothing. If it's up a pound today, up two pounds tomorrow, and up three pounds the next day, then it may be time to take notice.
I was a solid 160 today, so I'm not worried about the overall trend. I am climbing over-all, however slowly. I just am curious why the dips, and why so large.
I don't think 4 pounds is really that much. 4 pounds is a couple quarts of water.
After last Saturday's sprain (no more running on trails in the dark for this boyo), I was using a cane on Saturday, then just limping around on Sunday, and my Monday I was walking normally. The swelling went down amazingly fast.
I attribute this rapid recovery to elevation of the foot, icing the foot with frozen vegetables, and wearing compression tights. I was able to run 3M on Tuesday, but am being very careful where I run - especially with all of the storm debris on the streets/sidewalks.
And now with yesterday's Nor'Easter, we have the snow/slush to deal with - Crikey!
This morning I went to Quest Labs to get blood-work done for Dr. Fear (not his real name but close, a joke with the wife), and metabolic screening for work. The phlebotomist checks my blood pressure, then is uncertain on the results, so he does it again, knotting his brow on the results, which I ask him about. Both systolic readings are in the upper 140's.
I hadn't had coffee yet, but usually when I measure my own BP in the morning, I get readings in the low 120's.
So he says, hmm, let's plug this thing in (the blood pressure machine had been running on batteries). He takes the reading again, and systolic is now in the low 120's.
He then writes on the metabolic report, 147, 149, and 123, and said he had to give me a warning sheet to give to my doctor since the average of the three numbers was rather high.
I asked him why he would log the first two entries since there seemed to be such an anomaly. On this he flushed, and said, yeah, you're right, lets take another reading. Again, low 120's.
He said, I guess I don't need to give you the warning sheet now.
