So, after Monday's workout, I kind of needed a place to go. What I mean is, I pretty much have mastered the full cardio workout (80% max heart rate) and I felt it was time to move on.
Well, that and the machine was acting a little funky, so I went to an interval program. This interval program incorporated "hills" instead of heart rate (I picked that because the machine was acting funky in that it wasn't picking up my heart rate). The net effect was that I worked a lot harder, the machine was forcing me to work against more resistance on the hills, instead of decreasing resistance as I pedaled faster to maintain a heart rate. The machine then started to pick up my heart rate and everything was terrific.
I rode for 45 minutes plus a 5 minute cool down period. I ended (according to the machine) burning 502 calories, which is more than I had been burning. I feel like the last two days are analogous to Adrian Peterson breaking through scar tissue in his knee. Heh. I've really broken through and made some progress. I'm still having other issues, but fitness-wise, I feel like I'm progressing on the endurance end. When my weight gets down to 200, I will enlist a trainer to help me set up some weight training and I think I will try some of the classes offered at the gym for core workouts and flexibility. Right now, though, I'm still on the bike, melting fat and increasing endurance.
Day 120
Weight: 228.4
Total Loss: 56.1
BMI: 28.17
You will note that my weight is up slightly (0.3) from yesterday. Two things: I am a little suspect about that reading yesterday and I'm still struggling in other ways. I want the weight to go down, but I'm not as concerned about the weight right now as I might have been when I weighed 270 or so. My wife thinks I should stop the diet -- that I've reached an optimum weight. That's nice of her to say, but my body fat is still at about 27% according to my scale, which is higher than I would like. Plus, I still weigh a fair amount more than I did when we first met. So, thanks honey, but there's more work to do.
Suh-weet!
Had the MRI on my shoulder today. I am not sure how much of the pain tonight is the injection of contrast dye and how much is the mess in there. I expect to hear the report Monday.
Also, I was hoping this post was about you visiting a brewpub, but interval training is a good second best.
When I am in the mood, I like to alternate max-effort pedaling with easy pedaling. I only do a 12-minute program on the bike these days, but that alternation of thirty seconds max effort, one minute of easy effort kicks my ass.
