Game summary:  Canberra scored three in the first, led 5-1 after seven, and scored four in the ninth.

Canberra:  Brian Grening struck out eight in eight innings, giving up one run on seven hits and no walks.  Kody Hightower was 5-for-5 with two home runs, two doubles, and a walk, scoring three times and driving in six.

Melbourne:  Scott Wearne was 2-for-4 with a double.  Justin Huber hit a home run.

SYDNEY 5, PERTH 2 IN PERTH

TwinsTyler Herr (Sydney) retired the only man he faced.  Virgil Vasquez (Perth) gave up three runs on seven hits and a walk in six innings, striking out four.

Game summary:  Sydney led 3-0 after six and 4-2 after seven.  Herr came in with the tying run on base and two out in the seventh and ended the threat.

Sydney:  Craig Anderson gave up two runs on five hits and no walks in 6.2 innings.  Michael Lysaught was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple and scored once.

Perth:  Corey Adamson was 2-for-4 with a double and scored once.

BRISBANE 4, ADELAIDE 2 IN BRISBANE

Game summary:  Brisbane led 2-0 after three, 3-1 after four, and 4-1 after six.

Adelaide:  Ben Lodge was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring twice.  Darren Fidge struck out two in two perfect innings.

Brisbane:  Chuck Lofgren struck out seven in six innings, allowing one run on two hits and three walks.  Ryan Battaglia (Cleveland) was 2-for-3 with a double and a home run, scoring twice.
