Puerto Rican Palaver: Games of 12/13

CAGUAS 14, CAROLINA 8 IN CAGUAS

TwinsAngel Morales (Carolina) was 0-for-2 but was hit by pitches twice and scored twice.

Game summary:  Caguas scored six in the third to take a 7-4 lead.  It was 8-5 after six, but Caguas got three in the seventh and three in the eighth to put the game away.

Carolina:  Ben Lasater (Miami) was 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, and a walk, scoring twice.  Pedro Valdez was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and a walk.

Caguas:  Luis Mateo (St. Louis) was 3-for-5 with a double and a walk, scoring twice and driving in four.  Janluis Castro (Texas) was 3-for-3 with two walks, scoring three times and driving in two.

MAYAGUEZ 2, PONCE 0 IN PONCE

TwinsKennys Vargas (Mayaguez) was 1-for-4 and scored once.  Eddie Rosario (Mayaguez) was 1-for-4.  Daniel Ortiz (Mayaguez) was 1-for-3.  Josue Montanez (Ponce) worked two shutout innings, giving up only a walk.

Game summary:  Mayaguez scored both runs in the fourth.

Mayaguez:  Fernando Cruz struck out five in 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up only one hit.  Adonis Garcia (Yankees) was 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk.

Ponce:  Henry Ramos (Boston) was 2-for-4 with a double.  Javier Vazquez allowed two runs on five hits while striking out four in five innings.

MANATI 9, SANTURCE 3 IN SANTURCE

Game summary:  Trailing 3-2 after six, Manati scored five in the seventh and two in the eighth.

Manati:  Brahiam Maldonado was 3-for-5 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in four.  Ivan De Jesus (Boston) was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring twice and driving in one.

Santurce:  J. D. Durbin struck out six in six innings, allowing two runs on six hits and three walks.
